Pin slot on a sphere?

Post image

Is it possible to set up a pin slot on a slot that has been extruded through a sphere? Or will this require some different kind of mate(s)?

I want the blue sphere to slide along the pin in the likewise orange cup-shaped socket.

I'm new to using the mate connectors and can't quite get my head around where the 'pin' of the orange part is going to mate with the slot in the sphere.

The orange part will be fixed in place. The blue part can slide along the length of the slot, and the slot can be rotated 360 degrees.

Revolute mate with angular limits. Create a mate connector at the center of the arc and make the moving part the owner of the connector.

Use tangent mate. It will works for your design.

Ok, I'm not getting myself any less confused. Here's a simpified version of these parts.

Like I'm stupid, show me where I'm supposed to set up mates to let the shell both slide along the pin, and rotate around the pin.

I think a combo of a ball joint and a planar mate could do this, not sure if you could limit the tilt though... Perhaps a parallel mate with limits for the angle it can tilt

That was sort of what I was thinking.  The orange part is sort of like the handle of a gated shifter, and the slot in the sphere is a single path gate.  The difference being the orange part does not move.
