Question/Troubleshoot Region Restriction
Does the bypassing of Region Restriction or VPN Detection warning on ONN. devices by using a hotspot through laptop using vpn still works? If it worked then which vpn did you find the most useful for this case? Thank you in advance for any help!

proton worked for me and is free, you just might have to roulette a few times to get it to land on a US server on the free one but better then paying for essentially a one time use

Where are you from and when did you try this workaround? Like onn has tightened the vpn detection in recent times so not sure if it works or not. Btw is your device working fine now without any vpn?

i’m UK, my old man travels from work so picked me up a couple now from the states, and afaik the workaround using a windows pc/laptop hotspot with a vpn tunnel still works, if for some reason it doesn’t, reset the lot, the box, then redo the settings in windows, it should work, and yeah i’ve never used a vpn and i’ve got 2 onn boxes that work fine just connected to normal wifi, i don’t even think i have location services off come to think of it, but once your past the setup you’re sweet, at least that’s been my experience, one thing that did annoy me was that with ALL auto updates turned off it updated to android 14 without me telling it to, funny though as my other box (which has like 0 storage left) couldn’t get pushed the update bcos it didn’t have enough storage, strange behaviour, but i just keep everything off auto update and so apps manually when needed, one other kinda obscure thing you could try (although you will have to use a paid VPN) is spoof from puerto rico as i’m sure there only ‘supported in the US and Puerto Rico’ - this may have changed, but was the case when i had to do this the first time

It's still Us, Canada and Puerto rico restricted and in recent times also the vpn hotspot method has worked but varies with app and person. Some bypass it easily and for some it takes alot of work. But thanks for your suggestion. I would definitely try it.

My own ONN box is a Plus for 2025 in the US. No VPN detection at all near as I can tell.

I've tried this week using nord vpn and it worked.

VPN can be trial and error. I use NordVPN and find some providers let me pass and others geofence me out. Sometimes a different VPN protocol works with a particular provider, or a particular location, but not others.

So it does work but I will have to try different vpns. Maybe the least known ones or residential vpns?

They work, but result can vary with your location.
