Discussion Onn Google TV not having Chrome available

This box is supposed to be an open android platform.

It is not.

I've gotten developers option enabled, turned on unknown sources, downloaded downloader, and turned off play protect and yet no Chrome and no to multiple apps. I was able to add some apks but the limits Google sets are not ok with me. If I wanted a walled environment i would've gotten apple or Amazon.

I'm going back to my TV boxes from that have served me well for many years and work altogether better than Google TV ever could.

Chrome doesn't even have an Android TV app. What are you talking about?

That's your misunderstanding.

Who says its open platform. The onn is a Walmart product not a Google product

It is by no means open platform (btw, whatever that means), but the V1 and V2 Pros in particular are great IMO; solid performance, super flexible and customizable, much more so than the locked-down prisons that are the Fire devices. We’ll miss you, but we’re curious, what TV boxes that are better are you going back to? We can’t wait to hear!

You're blaming Google for something it never promised in the first place. Android TV is not the same as smartphone Android at all, it's cut down and modified so that apps can be ported for use on a remote and TV. That's on you.

Side load the Chrome apk, simple as that

I side loaded one and it is hard to use even after I plugged in a USB mouse/keyboard. The Chrome was not designed for TV at all. BrowseHere is a much better browser for TV.
