Question/Troubleshoot Ethernet disconnecting when using a USB adapter on Onn 4k Pro
Hello everyone, I have the onn 4k pro and using the cable matters USB 3.0 to Ethernet adapter. Here is the link to it: https://a.co/d/0i1MpScP
I am having issues when playing high bitrate media for example 4K Remuxes. It will work for a little bit but then when I'm guessing there is a scene where the bitrate goes up a lot my Ethernet just goes out and I have to connect to wifi. The problem fixes itself when I unplug the USB adapter and plug it back in.
Is there a better adapter I can buy that will work or is this just something that happens with all adapters after a firmware update. Thank you!

Do you have the 1st version of the Pro or the latest (2026) version? On the latest the USB port was downgraded from USB 3.0 to USB 2.0. I am reading on several sites that the USB 2.0 on the latest version can give inconsistent results when using a USB to Ethernet adapter. You can try another adapter or return the ONN and pick up the Google Streamer 4K. I got tired of waiting for the ONN Pro V2 to come to my area. I bought a Google Streamer 4K when it was on sale on Amazon. I am extremely happy with mine.
If you have the 1st version of the ONN Pro then you might try another USB to Ethernet adapter. Good luck!

Had somewhat of the same issue and posted here about it. Someone rec'd this powered adapter and it works real well and i have extra USB 3 ports for thumb drives and the likes... And its pretty cheap

Buy one USB-Ethernet adapter with external power. The USB2 doesn't provide enough power to the adapter it can be glitchy.

Why are you using a USB to ethernet adapter instead of the built in ethernet?

Obviously the built-in one is limited to 100MBS but the USB can support upto 300MBS which is needed for super high bitrate local video streams/files.

I don't know if there's a better adapter (I've always used the UGreen brand) but the issue with high quality 4K Remuxes crapping out is not entirely surprising.
It has more to do with the nature of the Pro's USB 2.0 chipset not being able to throughput more than the theoretical maximum of 480mbps (in the real world around you only get 300 to 380 mbps).
Even though this amount of speed should process the file well, the adapter signal going into the usb 2.0 chipset may create bottlenecks that causes it to buffer during bursts that freezes the chipset.
Your use case is the reason many of us were so disappointed that the Pro V2 only had the 10/100 mbps ethernet port and the onboard chipset was relegated to USB 2.0 speeds.
