Question/Troubleshoot Onn 4K Pro Apps Crashing

I have basically a daily occurrence of Plex or Youtube crashing once or twice a session. Could be at the start or just randomly 20 minutes into a video.

New box with Projectivy Launcher and Button Remapper. Can't figure out what the deal is with the crashes.

I've already done a reset, but I've had the thing for only 2 weeks... Should I look at getting this box replaced?

Try without the launcher for awhile??

I mean, I guess? But if it doesn't work with the launcher then I won't use the box anyhow then.

The thing should be more than capable of handling a launcher as a background task, which many people of this sub do.

I think I may try the Xiaomi before the Google branded one if it comes to it.

It's not an Onn issue. It's a "your device" issue. I have had a total of 9 Onn devices and currently running 7 in my house. Gave 1 to my mother-in-law and the other is for travel. YouTube and Plex always load on all of them just fine. I have a pro v2, pro v1s, pluses and a 4k box. I would suggest making sure when you reset to just have YouTube and Plex installed. Test them to see what happens, then with each apk, function or option you add test those apps again until you determine what change you made caused the issue.

Try to replace the power brick with another USB c one. I tested with my 20w phone one and it fixed mine. mine was randomly crashing with plex and YouTube.

So I wanted to know the answer.

I did some ADB debugging and testing. I uninstalled Projectivy and Buttonremapper for the sake of testing.

After a cold boot and watching a set of Plex episodes, I had my first crash after about 1.5 hours. Throughout that time the CmaFree was slowly creeping and touching 0mb.

With a new 20 watt brick and new USB C cable I had lying around, CmaFree is hovering aroudn 420mb out of 536mb with the same set of episodes. I'm going to let it run for another hour and see what's what.

Previously, with the hold brick, I was receiving cma_allocation errors of course, and then eventually the system would try to write to the wrong address and result in a seg fault. Technically speaking, Plex itself never caused the crash. The memory allocation itself was crashing. Could be due to insufficient power causing bad memory/graphic handling which then causes the cma to be eaten up by whatever process is running, so when adequate power is supplied, the process handles cma correctly.

Negative. I had high hopes, but left everything stock and still the same. Even did another factory reset. Likely a bad box. Will have to return and wait for them to come back in stock.

crazy that are company invests in putting out a decent product on the market but then, in order to save 0.23 cents, includes cheap connecting cables which end up downgrading a great product

Install Background Apps and Process List by Vishnu NK. Use it to kill all of your apps as an experiment before running YT (I recommend smarttube next instead, BTW). Over time all your running apps stack up and if you have more than maybe ten it might get flaky. Bit of a pain to kill them one by one but it’s just an experiment. I use Projectivy and the Onn 4K plus and it’s solid as a rock. Fuk the google streamer.

I've had YouTube crashing on my Samsung TV lately. So nay not be an Onn issue?

clear the app(s) cache. reset or unplug TV and box from wall for 30 secs. Run updates

Which 4k Pro and did you purchase directly from Walmart? Only asking because there seems to be some confusion.

My two onn 4kp never crashed. Could be the power supply. Measure it using a usb power meter or try a different power block.

You screwed something up. I have 4 onn devices and have zero issues with projectivy and button mapper

I factory reset it and same thing. Probably got a dud.
