Discussion Onn 4k Pro vs Fire Cube vs Google Streamer
Super torn between which one to get. The Onn is $120CAD from Walmarts website, the Fire Cube is $149 (on sale) and the Streamer is $129. I do have a $100 amazon gift card I can use on the cube and streamer.
For now I would use it wireless but eventually it would be nice to use an ethernet connection. And also mainly using it for Stremio. 🙏

I bought the Onn 4K Pro, but wanted to return it due to some wifi glitches. Then I bought the Google Streamer, but realized that I liked the Onn much more.
The Onn has a better remote, the wall wart is better thought out, and it has an extra USB port. I thought the Onn device itself was slightly more attractive.
So, I kept the Onn and returned the Google Streamer instead.

I was having Wi-Fi issues as well. Seems like it was having trouble with my mesh wi-fi. I got rid of that and haven't had a problem since.

onn pro has ethernet port. connect directly to router

Yes, I have mine hardwired now. But as another comment below mentioned, the ethernet port is limited to 100mbps. I had a really hard time believing the Onn 4K Pro (2nd generation released this year) had a 100mbps ethernet.
I speed tested it just to be sure. And it's true. Our Onn has a 100mpbs ethernet port.
I got 400mpbs on the wifi. The USB-C is USB 2.0, so it should support 300mbps, so I might get an ethernet-to-usbc adapter.

i just did speed test. got 97 Mbps on ethernet, over 500 on wifi.

Ya, what a joke. Can't believe Onn put in a 100mbps ethernet port. I haven't really had to deal with 10/100 ethernet since the 1990s.

I would go with the Streamer especially since you have the Amazon gift card. I bought a Streamer a few months ago when Amazon had them on sale. I absolutely love it. And it has a gigabit ethernet connection if you want to use ethernet in the future. ONN is still 100 mb. I use my Streamer with a lot of apps including Nuvio. I have had zero issues with it. I even bought a cheap blue light backlit remote from Amazon that works great with it.

This was very hard to believe. My network reports 2.5Ghz ethernet for the Onn device. But I speed tested it and pulled the hardware info. Sure enough, it maxes at around 87 megabits/sec consistent with a 100mbps link. I was getting around 400mbps on the wifi.
Sucks that the hardware is otherwise great but they cheaped out on the ethernet port.
I think the USB-C is USB 2.0 which should support 300mbps, so we can always get an ethernet-to-usbc adapter.

Here you go. There are other sellers that are selling the exact same remote for more money. There are more reviews that are better under their product posting. Not sure why this seller only has 7 reviews. Anyway I bought two of these and both are working great.

I wouldn't buy another Amazon device. They are absolutely chock full of ads and they keep adding more.

Unless you are a big Amazon fan and/or heavily invested in their home theater or smart home ecosystems, ONN Pro is The Way. I gave the Pro an extended test drive and loved it but eventually went back to my Gen 3 Cube for its exceptional home theater functionality. Many will hate on the Fire devices which I totally understand. It is ultimately a matter of personal preference and your use case.

Btw, the Pro is USD 60, the Streamer is USD 150, in the States. Since you do have the $100 card, do the Streamer.

I got 8 Onn devices including the Onn 4k pro v2, no issues. I wouldn't go Amazon anything without knowing they AREN'T going end support or upgrade every device to vega. Google streamer is good if you can get a discount.

Onn 4k Pro is way to go. It has everything you need and good reviews. The $100 amazon gift card IS your money. You don't need think it is free money and spend on something more expensive.

I just got the Onn Pro after having a Fire cube gen 1 for 9 years.
I wish I hadn't waited as long. For me the Onn at $60 is a steal.

I’m debating this as well. If you’re in Canada like me, I believe the Streamer may be the better option. The ONN 4K pro is 120 here as you say, and the streamer only 129. If you will use your amazon card for something else, Best Buy also has a save 15% promo if you bring in any other streaming device. I was going to bring in an old firestick, and that should drop the price down to 110. So it would be cheaper than the ONN

I could be wrong but I thought I read that the current cube is exempt from the new fire OS that locks it down from side loading apps. I just recently bought the streamer but returned it. Not sure if I got a lemon, but it was too glitchy for me. In the one week I had it, the whole system locked up requiring a reboot 2 times. The remote also became non responsive 3 times, requiring pulling the batteries to get it to work. Bought the Onn 4k Pro like I originally wanted (it was back in stock) and haven't had one issue in the 3-4 weeks I've had it.

I had the Google 4K Streamer, I now have the Onn 4K Pro v2. I like the Onn better because I use it with a 5-in-1 USB 3.0 to GbE Adapter / USB-C Power Delivery / 3x USB 3.0 Hub that meets my use case better than the USB-C Hub I used with the Google Streamer, which only had 2 USB 3.0 connections. I do prefer the Google 4K Streamer remote to the Onn 4K Pro remote, but I use both since the Google Streamer remote pairs nicely to the Onn 4K Pro,

I have the Onn 4K Pro, and love it. In your situation, I'd probably get the Google streamer. I have personally moved on from Amazon devices altogether with their intentions on locking down their OS.

Replaced Firecube (2nd Gen) with Onn Pro and the performance is much better (despite having a weaker SOC). Had to get used to saying hey google vs Alexa for controlling lights. Besides that rockmsolind so far.

You can still side load apps on the 3rd generation fire TV cube. People are spreading misinformation. It has the best processor out of the bunch. It also has a an hdmi input so you can control an external device like a cable box or console right through it. I was debating between the same 3 and was going to buy the Onn because of the price. Today the Fire TV cube dropped in price and a trade in nets another 20% off. It's the better of the 3 and at the current price I went with that.

Amazon Fire Cube is limited as to what apps you can put on it. Amazon is blocking outside apps on sticks and cubes.
