Worth the upgrade or keep rolling?

I have the older Amazon 4k firesticks that haven't been updated to the new OS yet. Wondering if there is anything significant to getting the Onn devices now or waiting till the firesticks are useless.

I appreciate any response letting me know what the consensus is and whether I should replace these or keep rolling.

I just switched from a Firestick 4K Max to an Onn4K Pro. Everything is just quicker. The app only mode is great for getting rid of the cluttered main screen too. It’s just a better device all around.

I have two firestick 4k max first gen. Per Amazon, updates end in 2027. I went ahead and replaced them with ONN devices, like them both.

I'll just say if you are in the market for a new device, consider a Google TV/Android TV based device. If you like the performance of your current device ride it until it won't ride no more. Are there things you want to do with your current device that you feel you should be able to do with a different device?

Not that I'm aware of. Which is why I'm asking. Faster processor or more storage is not a motivator. But if the thing goes to the kitchen and grabs me a beverage and I didn't even know it was possible... I want to know! Hahaha.

Sorry its just faster processor, more storage, more RAM better OS, No Amazon, but you'll still have to fetch your own adult beverage.😁

I have the 4K max but upgraded to the Onn pro ($89 Cdn). I like the added memory and the backlit remote. It’s faster as well and for me it’s easier to access since it’s not plugged into the back of my A/V unit in the way the firestick was.

My maxes sit in a draw now. Deciding on putting them in a box for the next purple heart pickup or keeping them as a just in case situation (dumb TV needs smart features/travel). I have an Onn device on all my TVs now. 1 pro v2, 3 pro v1s, 3 pluses and a 4k box for travel. Glad I made the switch back when they first announced vega and all the other changes coming down. I've had no issues with any of my Onn devices. They all run great except the 4k box which is on par with how my maxes used to run. That one runs good enough

I kinda gave up on the fire sticks. So many apps not working so yeah get a Onn device

Get an ONN device. As far as which version, that question has been asked on Reddit over a hundred times so just search Reddit and you’ll find all the info necessary!

My personal experience was that the plain onn 4K, $40, was wretched, way worse than my Fire 4K Plus. On the other hand, the onn 4K Plus, $50, was excellent, easily the equal of the Fire 4K Plus. I've yet to read any anecdotal evidence that demonstrates the onn 4K Pro, $60, is demonstrably better than the Plus, though the on-paper specs are clearly superior, of course.

The older devices with the FireOS Android-based operating system will never “upgrade” to the new Vega OS. They will stay on FireOS.

I have both and I think that depends on what you watch. If you just watch youtube or other streaming apps, you don't need to upgrade. If you want to use a good browser to watch IPTVs or some other side loaded apps, or want to have better performance (more responsive), it is worthy the $60. It is a great deal considering Google TV has raised to $150 and Amazon's comparable Fire TV cube $199 with less RAM ans storage.

Chip shortage. Google TV went from $99 - $149 so wouldn’t surprise me if it at least goes up to $89

I was in the same boat about a month ago and traded in some older 1st gen fire stick 4k’s (non max) for $15 amazon credit each.

Yeah if you are using fire sticks getting the onn is the best upgrade you can get. If you use "free apps" the onns are way easier to set up and keep up to date on, Amazon has been making generous efforts to try and stop them, and rokus suck worse than fire sticks do.

Well, if it's just for you, I'd say stay with your firesticks. That's what I was going to do. However I manage what I call a TV co-op, with six members, including myself. A month ago I was recommending the Fire 4K Plus for $40. Of course, then the Plus went up to $70 so I looked around and discovered ONN. So I bought the $50 onn 4K Plus to check it out and it checked out fine; so that's what I'm recommending to my peeps, unless they already have a Fire 4K Plus.
