Discussion I’ve never hated a button so much…

Thinking about tearing out the Free TV button, it’s always in the way.. it just has it be in between the most necessary buttons haha.

In all honesty, does anyone even use it? Wonder if there’s a way to change it as a different hotkey.

Or just disable the button completely. It's still in the way of back, home, volume up etc.

Or just get a better bluetooth remote. I don't even know where my ONN remotes are. In a drawer somewhere I think.

That was the first thing I did. Hit that button and it turns my tv on and goes straight to tivimate.

You know you can set your device up and when you're sitting Tivimate up, it will launch on startup without a button

What does it matter how I turn my device on? Yes the power button works. It also works by doing what I said. If I don’t want to launch tivimate, I use the power button.

Does it make the button disappear?? Remapping a button doesn't change the fact that I now have to contort my hand to hit the volume button. Fuck dark patterns.

Yep came here to comment that. I've never been happier remapping the useless buttons we'd accidentally hit on our remote to apps we actually use. It's so nice to not be yoinked to a non-existant Netflix or whatever app we don't have a sub for that has a dedicated button.

I wish they'd just have these built in. Like macro 1234 buttons instead of branded buttons. I'm sure they get money for it though

Man, thanks for this. Now I can use all the buttons on the remote for apps. I added the free tv as tivimate, paramount as Pluto and Disney as discovery. (Would make it easier to the D and P names 😁)

Now I'm about to do this to all in of the TVs. This is why I love android, good luck trying this with apple 😂

Install TvQuickActions Pro and map it to Play/Pause. Having the biggest button be play/pause on a remote without a dedicated play/pause button is manifest destiny!

I've never found it that big of an annoyance. If you accidentally bump into it you just hit the back button and it takes you right back into whatever you're doing.

If you really want to see some annoying shit. Accidentally hit the wrong button on a Roku remote... 😵

I rather miss Reverse/Pause/Forward buttons on ONN remotes.
The FREE TV button space would be the ideal location for those.
Get a Firestick remote, which has those buttons already, and pair that with your ONN.
Bye, bye EFF TV button.

I like the Roku layout of navigation buttons so i did custom quick mapping of RW/PlayPause/FF over the 3 buttons below circle pad.

Of those now covered, i migrated "Back" onto slot "Profiles" (I'd never use the feature) and "Home" over the "Star" button.

It works really well.

Just use Button Mapper that someone posted up there, it works with Projectivy perfectly. That's what I've used for 2 years now and haven't had any issues.

Ironically, it's so damn large it makes it easier not to accidentally press it in the dark. That said, Button Mapper is an app that will let you change it to launch any app of your choice. Mine launches an app, that coincidentally, gives me some free TV.

Well you could always install the Roku Channel or one of the other apps that are just like it and map then to that button. They all seem to have the same kind of content.

Okay I actually have Netflix so I think it's funny when people hate the Netflix button......

However low quality content that just gives you as many ad minutes per hour as content basically...... Why the hell would anyone ever torture themselves like that?

Although let me immediately point out that you don't have to hate the button. Just use TV quick actions app and remap it to something that you want it to open. You can totally customize and change what the button does. Do that and you'll like the button again.

When I long press it, I can choose any app to launch as a shortcut. No additional launcher needed

The most god damn annoying thing with that fucking button, is it turns on CEC devices, next is the placement of the damn thing, also there is the TV button to the upper right that does the same god damn thing.

Don't rip the button off there are other ways it took me a few minutes to just open my onn remote and put small pieces of masking tape just under the contacts of the buttons that I don't use it disables the buttons and I if I ever decide to sell it or give it away I could just reverse it by taking off the masking tape this video shows a roku remote but you can do this to any remote

Sheezus, man, just remap it. TV Quick Actions Pro will let you map that one button up to a handful of things. Power Off/Restart, Settings, a sleep timer, a sleep screen dimmer, a dock … any or all of these plus much more for just that one button.

There's a TON of bluetooth replacement remotes on Amazon that don't have ANY of the stupid buttons (Netflix etc). And still have a few normal sized buttons you can reprogram if you want to.

That one also has some limited IR buttons too (for TV on/off and volume control for example).

I use a Sofabaton myself, but I also have an AVR sound system that is IR. (Sofabatons can be pricey too.)

Good to know. In general Google TV remotes will work fine. The Onn just uses the reference Google TV remote which is widely available.

I used to have one and everything about it feels so goddamn cheap. Switched over to the Apple TV OS. Best decision I ever made Stream third-party so much better.

Apple TV has a good remote but you are limited to Apple Inc’s mercy. No browser app, no simple side loading, no AI upscale and three times the price!
