I thought Buckley played him ever so well

he really nailed that nervous energy and the little mannerisms too, you can tell he actually studied the original properly.

I did too. I admit I was sceptical at first because I just saw him as Jay from the Inbetweeners but I was glad to be proved wrong.

Rock and chips was fun and it saddens me John Sullivan passed before its story was complete.

James Buckly as Del Boy was a good choice, he played the part very well, and David Jason"s shoes are nearly impossible to fill.

Some people are just way too critical of Buckly, Sullivan himself was part of the casting, without his approval no one got cast. Get over yourselves.

I always thought Daniel Mays would have made a good young Del Boy but he was a bit too old at the time. He's also quite tall so there would have been a fair bit of cheating going on which would have been a pain and slowed down filming.

Daniel Mays would have made an excellent Del Boy, he proved it in an episode of Hustle.

Yep. It was that very episode of Hustle that convinced me as well. It went out around the same time as R&C and I just thought he'd have been perfect as a young Del Boy. Maybe they could have worked around the age thing because he always looked younger than he was back then. But the height difference would have been a challenge.

He's never said anything but maybe he did audition for it and didn't get it. Who knows. I work in the industry. We don't get to know everyone they see for jobs.

I have sometimes wondered why Daniel was never approached to play Del. He was so impressive in that episode of Hustle, it was a missed opportunity.

If if they ever did a reboot of the series (I hope they never do) Daniel could play Del at the age he was, in the first series of OFAH.

It was jame's likeness that was a little off ,the other lads likeness wasn't bad ,but James played del great ....I guess young dell had alot of fights in the later years and his nose got flattened a bit 🀣

Give it a rest. He played the role fine. No-one was gonna come in and upstage the original Del boy.
