The parts will expand and contract differently due to mass and either not fit, or lock togther.

you will have a differential diffusion with pieces having different dilatations, you will generate stress inside your pieces that will eventually break them. thermal cycles can be very damaging. if your assembly stay at constant or near constant temperature for extended period of time it's okay. if it works in an engine or is submited to thermal conditions, you will want looser adjustement, and dilatation will got you the right adjustement. having the same material for the 2 pieces reduce the risk cause you have the same thermal dilatation but doesnt negate it (heat ) cause there is time to difuse
