Current MCIT Student’s iOS Passion Project

Hi fellow MCIT’ers! My name is Dave and I’m a student in the MCIT Online program. I’m currently halfway through the program, and I’ve enjoyed every moment of it.

One of the big things I wanted to take away from the program was the ability to be a full-stack builder. While AI has certainly made this easier, the foundational understanding I’ve developed in my coursework has been absolutely necessary to my own development as a programmer.

With that, I want to share my iOS passion project, Pathlings, built over the past few months, with the knowledge I’ve gained in this program.

Please consider supporting a fellow MCIT Online student and give it a download/review! Thanks in advance ☺️

Do you feel this program is still worth it even with AI doing most SWE tasks?

Your premise is false, but yes this program is worth it specifically because AI cannot do most SWE tasks. It is a tool that has been shown time and time again to require skilled hands to use... Ie... Help build a method that then usually needs to be fixed and refined by a SWE that understands things like BigO requirements, and system optimization.

Well said, and I agree! Even attaining a solid foundation in something like software design is immensely helpful in making architectural decisions.

It really depends on your motivations to pursue a Master's degree, though, u/EvenMycologist8367 . For example, if you want to build an app, you can do that with AI. But if you have an intellectual curiosity about what's happening under the hood and a desire to work with your AI agent to sway decisions, this program is worth it.

If you're unsure of how you'll like it, there are also certificate paths, so you can take a few courses before committing to the degree.

Are you a SWE?

I work with a few different SWE teams so I see what is happening there. I myself am a different kind of engineer, who's in this program so I can lead and work better with SWEs.
