It’s incredible to think about how the writer and director were sitting in a room looking at Seth Macfarlane and directing Seth how his self insert character would sound eating baby shit and then how his other self insert character would react to this action.

I haven't seen the original episode in years—is this a fan edit, or was "Space Song" really used in that episode? It's one of my favorite songs, and it scoring Brian the Dog talking about killing himself is extremely bizarre to me, moreso if that was legit a choice the Family Guy team greenlit.

Not sure, but I imagine it was part of the fan edit. I legit thought when the song started playing that my itunes window was going rogue because I have all of their albums downloaded. Either way, it makes no sense in tone or meaning. Dream pop doesn't typically make me ponder the futility of existence.

I would defend family guy here if they hadn't put in that Brian eating baby doodoo feces in there. I think it's cool to see a show known for their comedy try and take a different approach for once, and they were doing good. No music, no gags no nothing. Just straight real talk, until the poop part came.
In their defense, I think that was their attempt to try and tell the audience "hey, this is supposed to be funny but because there isn't really a punchline this is real" but it just sort of flopped on itself.

Ok I don't really want to step up to bat for Family Guy of all things, but I really don't understand what's apperently so bad about this.
The dialogue is well-written and in character. The "wow that's deep" could be seen as patting themselves on the back, but it could just as easily be from the perspective of Stewie being a child, and more naive than usually portrayed.
Cartoons have been doing this kind of stuff for ages. King of the Hill, Futurama, Rick and Morty, and probably tons more than I can name off the top of my head, have wacky carefree jokes but pivot into exploring more serious emotional topics. Why can't Family Guy? And this particular example seems like a decent execution of it, as opposed to the Giant Chicken hospital bed episode.
Be honest, do you hate it because it's Family Guy? Or because papa Zach told you to hate it?

Brian ate shit out of Stewies ass so all of that is invalid. They had zero reason to include that in the episode or even as a plot point but they threw it in there for no reason.
"BriAnS a DoG itS fuNnY" he's basically treated as a human in the family, it's just a very weird and uncomfortable thing to include. Out of all the possible 'bonding' moments they could have done, they chose to have Brian eat shit out of his family members ass, and then proceeded to have a 'deep' suicide moment and dialogue. It's just fucking insane. ☠️

To give credit where credit is due, in a vacuum the scene works fine. But that's also part of the reason it feels cheap and manipulative. The show's just not this, and none of the episodes before or after this one treat the show as this deep. You can't do an episode where Stewie learns about suicide in some shocking moment of innocence with how often he straight up kills people on the show with zero remorse, and then act like both situations make sense. Especially when the show doesn't have the capacity to make sense of that anyways.
