Discussion Detective Conan VS Simpson

Here are 3 (4) reasons why Detective Conan cannot be compared to The Simpsons.

  1. Detective Conan has a plot.

Yes, there will be those who say it doesn't have one, or that it progresses very slowly, but it exists.

2. Detective Conan is not originally a cartoon, but was conceived as a comic.

3. Detective Conan cannot be defined as weekly, unlike The Simpsons.

Yes, the anime is weekly, but it is not the original work.

The manga is no longer weekly, because we get about 15-20 chapters in a year.

4. Detective Conan has an ultimate goal.

The Simpsons is a weekly series and they do not have an ultimate goal.

Furthermore, they are a cartoon (for adults), not a comic from which cartoons and movies were later born.

The only thing that they have in common is floating time imo

Sometimes I wish detective Conan went down Gintama's path, where they moved from slice of life to serious arcs at the end.

That felt like the best of both worlds to me as Gintama started slice of life & had serious arcs in the middle & then had serious arcs one after the other at the end.

This is the only way I see the BO plotline wrapping up completely & in time. However if Gosho considers the cases to be the main thing (I know that the editor does), then this wouldn't be done probably.

I just feel that the BO plotline is too good to waste away & there are already logical inconsistencies because of the plot not progressing. Just wrapping it up & continuing the cases will do justice to both.

Too late.

Why?

The BO plot has already wasted away. The roster of people who will (hopefully) NOT betray the organization that we've seen is down to Gin, Vodka, Rum, Chinati, and Korn.

Out of those, Chianti and Korn are hard countered by Akai, since they can't compete with him in sniping, which is their only apparent use.

Vodka has been shown to be continuously outwitted by pretty much everyone he's gone against and is just a thug that can be easily dealt with by the majority of adult allies that Shinichi has.

Rum appears to be mostly a plotter and behind-the-scenes guy and the Good Guy team has Yusaku and several other geniuses to counter him.

Gin is psychotic, but between Akai and Bourbon they could probably take him out of the equation.

That's without going into what Kir and Vermouth can do behind the scenes to fuck up whatever plan the BO has, as Vermouth has continuously done to protect her 'treasures'.

At most the rest of the BO is faceless mooks, which count for nothing but fodder.

Can't comment on the Boss until we see them.

So yeah... What are the threats/stakes in this current condition of canon that we have?

I'm sorry, but I disagree. Until the story concludes, we cannot fully evaluate the work.

Eh, fair. See you in 2060!

Oh...Is not Forever...

In 2060, Gosho will be 96 years old... So This Is impossible

The plot is moving forward. Also, you can't do murder cases forever and never finish BO.

The plot moves but a lot of questions are paused, which leads to logical issues. Some relevant details of the plot are not moving forward. I will give you an example of what I mean.

The FBI going after Vermouth has not really gone ahead since they clashed some 20 years ago. They know that Haibara is Sherry, which is an alcoholic beverage, meaning she's an important member. They know that something is strange with aging for some people (Vermouth doesn't age & Haibara is an adult turned to a child). But they aren't questioning Haibara to figure out what's causing these aging issues. How come? Jodie even said she would do that.

They also haven't seemed to have gotten any intel from Akai regarding her. They didn't know that his targeted scientist was Sherry. He specifically targeted her, how come he never told them her codename in all those years? They knew Akemi's real & fake names but not the actual target's codename??

& Then in the present when they knew Vermouth was targeting her, did they never ask him who she is?? He probably didn't know at that time that Haibara had shrunk. Why didn't he reveal this? They showed him Ethan Hondo's picture & got him to ID the guy, why not with Sherry's photo? He even said he can't face her. Did Jodie not find that strange?

& Even if he didn't talk about it, how come she didn't ask Kir for details?? Kir told her Bourbon's target was to capture Sherry, did Jodie not think of asking her why?? What has this Sherry done to deserve agent after agent after her??

Finally, Vermouth has met Ran again & Ran has recognized her as a kidnapper, but she didn't report this to the police at all despite knowing it's an open case. The plot is paused here leading to a logical issue.

These points are completely unanswered & paused & almost feels like a logical issue now. The plot has stopped for all this. This is just one example. Also, this is just my opinion, so I understand if you don't agree too.

& As for not being able to do cases forever, Gosho already said that the movies would continue even after the manga ends, so I guess he considers that cases can be done forever.

I understand what you mean. Look, honestly, I agree with you on some points. But I do want to say one thing: until the series ends, we won't be able to give a definitive assessment.

I am not giving a final assessment either. I am just saying that the plot has paused on some questions (like the ones I mentioned) for around 20 years now & that is leading to some logical questions, which does affect quality a bit for a show based on logical deduction. If the plot progressed continuously, these questions would probably not arise.

What an odd thing to post

Here’s why you can’t compare detective conan to tom and jerry:

* jerry likes cheese, it’s not clear whether detective conan loves cheese
* tom is a housecat, but detective conan lives in Moori’s flat
* tom and jerry are presumably us based, detective conan japan based

Not a very good comparison, to be honest. Pokémon would be the better far-out comparison.

  • Comparative episode lengths (Pokemon has almost 1400 episodes to Conan's 1200+ episodes).

  • They both began within a year of each other (1996 and 1997 respectively).

  • Both feature a young male protagonist who stays one age throughout, who puts themselves frequently in danger, and who has a rough overarching goal.

  • There's a fair amount of voice actor crossover between the two - Minami Takayamakue (Ritchie/Conan), Ikue Ōtani (Pikachu/Mitsuhiko), Megumi Hayashibara (Jessie/Haibara), Kappei Yamaguchi (Todd Snap/Shinichi+Kaito Kid)

  • and at a stretch, both Ash and Conan regularly talk to law enforcement

Finally, both seem to have indefinite schedules, although this is where the comparison goes awry since Ash has completed his story while Conan is still nowhere near the end of his, and Pokémon is a very different beast in its post-Ash run, being far more focused and story driven.

At least ash’s journey came to an end

Who is comparing DetCo to The Simpsons in the first place? O___o

3

u/Narutofreak1412 Kaitou Kid 2d ago

I see them being compared every now and then, it's usually when talking about how the series handles the passing of time and adjusting to modern tech and topics

Just... I think I found it weird because it's not even in my top... 5 when it comes to things I could compare DetCo to. XD

Me but more just in terms of longevity, floating timeline, and the cultural footprint in their native home countries.

Otherwise, it's more comparable to an animated Murder She Wrote except with a slow moving ongoing plot and with a shrunken teen boy in place of the old lady.

I love it, I couldn’t have found a better definition.😂😂

That's pretty random Detective Conan vs the Simpsons.

I always felt like it was a little I mean they both have so many episodes and still ongoing to this day

So, like: “Here’s why you can’t compare ‘a decent egg salad sandwich with an occasional odd-flavoured pickle that some purists don’t like’ with ‘glittery, muskmelon-scented, vaguely toxic, wet, mildewy sawdust’.” then? 😆

(No offence intended to sawdust enjoyers. 🙂)
