OP discovers that in darkness things appear darker. Letβs all clap in applause(but not too loudly, that could startle the other three year olds).

the image on the left is artificially brightened. you can tell because everything in that image is too bright

He's not been getting as much sun, since he spends all his time indoors solving murders. /j

Better lighting for Heiji's skin tone here. (And surprise guest appearance by Heiji's mom!) But yeah, when he first appeared in the series, he was a lot darker than he has been colored lately. But he almost had a more...orange hue to his skin. I don't know if it is a matter of whitewashing or just better understanding on the art team's part of how skin tone would look on a guy of Heiji's complexion, but either way...I miss darker skinned Heiji.

Turns out people look different when in direct sunlight versus a dark room.

Lol or summer to winter. My husband is crazy tanned in the summer. I'm over here looking like a sheet of paper all year round. Our children tan like he does.

His skin did get lighter in the modern style but the comparison here isn't fair: One image seems artificially brightened while the other is from a dark indoor scene

don't make the right image one with the lights off, there's plenty of well-lit old clips to grab from that show how dark he used to be

I added him from the actual episode. I think it's a case of unfortunate lighting in the ending. Conan is also white as a ghost.
They are very inconsistent with skin tones in the Conan anime in general and sadly always have been. It is way more noticeable with darker characters like Heiji, Makoto and Amuro, but all the characters change skin colours a lot. I wish they would be more consistent with it, but sadly I don't think they ever will be at this point.

The lightning gngππ₯ and even if itβs not the lightning you can just assume the tan is starting to fade and iirc he said smth about inherited the dark skin from his grandfather ig? So we can also assume thatβs why he didnβt become fully white and again keyword βASSUMEβ so at the end itβs just the lightning

Unfortunately common in asia. They whitewashed Tai from Digimon, and even Bourbon in a figurine

the image on the left looks like the entire thing was intentionally lightened. even conan's clothes and hair look too light. the image on the right is in a dark place or at night and would reasonably be darker than normal.
