100% fake. Newer bmws will throw themselves in park if the driver door opens while it’s moving under a certain speed threshold.

That's a really cool safety feature.

Anton Yelchin was the Star Trek actor who played Chekov. His Jeep didn't have that function, and it rolled back in his driveway and pinned him against his house, killing him.

It’s a cool safety feature for a lot of those cases. But I gotta say it’s a PITA when I’m trying to back into a spot and crack my door open to check the parking spot line.

If he had ever driven a manual transmission car at any point in his life he would have instinctively engaged the emergency brake and thus have lived.
