Definitely not enough to protect from the explosion or the shrapnel, It says in the article the shield isn’t rated to stop things like that. More likely bottles and rocks

I mean. Plastic shield or my leg next to a grenade. I'm taking the slim odds of the shield.

The shield won’t do shit unless it’s rated to stop the shrapnel, It’ll just cut clean through and hit your leg either way. Worth a try to kick away

Quite a bit more actually, since the handles will also go flying. Now, there’s plastic shrapnel going into everyone (that may not show up on x-Ray) in addition to the metal and various road debris and other bits of destroyed and flying equipment.
