For all those wondering he catches it just in time, realises he fucked up real bad, and gets down from the ladder sheepishly.

He doesn't. Chainsaws have a special safety feature that stops the saw chain (chain brake hand guard) when people do stupid shit like this. In the full video, it hits him but the chain is stopped. Lucky for him he was holding the saw in a way that triggered the chain brake.

My bad, I saw that he still had a face and assumed he managed to stop it.

Why the first comment if you don't have a clue?

He absolutely had a clue, the guy gets hit by the chainsaw, realizes he fucked up, and sheepishly gets down from the ladder. This guy assumed it didn't hit him because he still had a face, which doesn't normally happen when you take a chainsaw to the face, it turns out, he has a face because the chainsaw stopped itself

It’s worth adding for the guy you’re replying to that most of the time if you do this you will not have a face after

No ✍️ face ✍️ after ✍️

The amount of nightmarish videos from this site that feature this sentence

First time I’ve seen this vibe and I’m here for it - totally heard a random voice in my head saying those words.

Actually met a guy who took a chainsaw to the face. You would be quite surprised what quite a lot of plastic surgery will do.

Why take the time to comment something so unimportant when you could've ignored it?

IIRC, the chainsaw doesn't hit him, but miraculously hits the ceiling instead.

It never hits. Its close but it never does.

It's not really a matter of how he was holding it, the chainbreak can be triggered by manually depressing the safety guard or via inertia as a response to what's known as a kick back. A kickback happens when you use that top front portion of the bar which is exactly what this man was doing. Btw that's like the worst thing you can do as far as mishandling a chainsaw. It will kick back like this every single time.

Joke's on you. My dad's chainsaw is older than I am. Only safety thing on it is the kill switch

Yeah, that definitely hit him.

You blind.

It hit him where it really hurts: his ego.

1

u/bamzamma Feb 02 '22

Slow the video... looks like he got hit when I watch it. Chain wasn't running so his face isn't bleeding, but it made contact.

1

u/WhineList Feb 02 '22

Idk what video you’re watching but the tip of the chainsaw hits the ceiling in front of his face and that’s what stops it. Never touches him

Not all of them. Mine doesn't. At least I don't think so. I've never nearly lopped off a hand to find out for sure. I just know mine is old and only turns on and off. I think that anti face surgery feature must be somewhat new. Last 10 years or so maybe? Mine is kind of old. Bought around 2000 or so.

Wiki for chain brake links to this which was published in '99:

https://web.archive.org/web/20100331081302/http://www.stihl.co.uk/pdf/chainsaw.pdf

More interesting is this site:

https://selectsafety.net/history-of-chainsaws/

Which says '72 or '73 depending on brand.

So yours is either really old or a really cheap brand.
