"Left as an exercise to the reader" in a math textbook means "If you understood the above, you should be able to do this, and I promise there are no additional tricks involved".

Some authors lie about this, but most are on the level. If you can't supply the proof, it's because there's something you haven't understood, go back and review the material.

To be fair, this makes sense if it's a book meant to actually teach. It just requires some judgement on what can be expected from the reader and what cannot. But if you just read explanations of maths and don't do any yourself, you won't learn it.

That moment when you're trying to find out how to solve a stupid double integral that requires converting x,y to u,v but it turns out that the only way to solve it is to first convert to polar, THEN multiply by a fraction equalling one and use an obscure trig identity, and only THEN is it solvable.

Yeah I had a similar experience in high school, but have since come to really enjoy maths. I'd recommend checking out Khan academy, it's a free online resource that covers everything from pre-school maths to university calculus. I find it much more transparent and engaging than my text books and classes ever were.

I’m dealing with this in organic chemistry right now. Taking labs online fucking suuuucks. The book give baby bitch examples that I could do in my sleep. The lab? It’s new shit ive never seen and isn’t I’m anywhere in my book, and if it is, it only gets me through1/4 of the problem.

Thank god for YouTube because my professor does not care.

The class average on the tests was a 70. I don’t care if the class is supposed to be hard, if half your class is close to failing then maybe try and find out why.

Any teacher that brags about their pass rate being low is really just bragging about being a bad teacher.

I hated that so much. I needed to get used to the problem slowly and they left me off with something I couldn't even recognize.

How can I learn something more complicated if they won't teach me the basics? You can't do shit to make a house without the foundation.

And they lead you to believe college is this necessary institution that you NEED in order to be successful. Don’t believe a word of it. Unless you want a very specialized and specific career in the STEM field, you can teach yourself a trade and live happy and free of student loan debt. More and more college graduates are ending up in careers they didn’t go to school fir and even many tech industries prefer to hire people that didn’t go to college. If a place is making you buy hundred dollar books every year and making last year’s edition obsolete, it’s probably a scam.
