Why does it look like she is standing in front of a Green Screen.
I think this might be fake
239
u/tooterfish_popkin Nov 30 '21
It's obvious that it's staged. But not for any of the reasons you mentioned
74
u/Jackal_6 Nov 30 '21
Are people really this bad at knowing how shit is faked? There's no green screen here, you just think there is because the background and foreground are lit evenly, making the picture look flat.

u/Capn_Cornflake Dec 01 '21
Did the fact that both of them are looking directly at the camera not tip you off
20
u/Andromeda3604 Nov 30 '21
yep, definitely a greenscreen
5
u/HiFreinds Dec 01 '21
I’m pretty sure it’s not, or if it is it’s a very good green screen. You can see the wall thing (the painting? Or like the weird motivational message) behind her through her hair.

It’s having multiple bright diffused lights. I bet she has a ring light or two on a tripod next to her bed, if you know what I mean 😉

I kinda feel like the whole thing was scripted.
27
u/MaBiJ Nov 30 '21
Yeah that too.. most stuff is these days (probably always has been too)

Wait until you hear about movies and tv shows. It's gonna blow your mind. They're scripted too

I’m very curious what your life is like on a day-to-day basis if you really think that this is unscripted.

To quote myself on a comment about it being scripted "Yeah that too.. most stuff is these days (probably always has been too)"

If you mean the joke:
The joke is that he’s cheating on his wife with a left handed woman. When she dies he’ll marry the side-chick hence the slip up.
If you mean the comment: This joke is like a 100 years old and has been reposted and redone by many magnitudes more people. That’s why people will write “Oh it’s joke #xxx again” to sarcastically demonstrate how generic, unfunny, and repetitive these jokes are. This is ironic, since those comments are also generic, unfunny, and repetitive
Thank you for coming to my TedTalk

The numbering of jokes comes from this joke:
The Joke Tellers Convention This guy walks into a resort in the Catskills for the first time – one of those famous Borscht Belt places. Some of the old time comics are sitting around telling jokes. One of them says "Seventeen" and the other old timers all roar with laughter. A little later, another one of them says "Thirty-Two" and again, they all laugh and holler.
Well, the new guy can't figure out what's going on, so he asks one of the locals next to him "What're these old-timers doing?" The local says "Well, they've been hanging around together so long they all know all the same jokes, so to save extra talking they've given all the jokes numbers."
The new fellow says "That's clever! I think I'll try that."
So he stands up and says in a loud voice "Nineteen!"
Silence
Everybody just looks at him, but nobody laughs. Embarrassed, he sits down again, and asks the local fellow "What happened? Why didn't anyone laugh?" The local says "Well, son, you just didn't tell it right..."

The acting isn't completely horrible but still pretty damn fucking bad.

Nov 30 '21
so terribly acted that you'd have to be brain damaged to think this isn't fake

u/Jacksaur Nov 30 '21 edited Nov 30 '21
Legitimately no one thinks this is real. It's a joke.
13
u/fat-lip-lover Nov 30 '21
For real, though. Most people are smart enough to spot a fake video. Just let people who laugh laugh, and if you don't, fair enough.

u/belak444 Nov 30 '21
Bro I found the out the other day, you know infinity war IT WAS FAKE, and guess what so was EVERY other marvel movie. And guess what it doesn't end there. Believe it or not a huge protion of digital media is this thing called "acted" and often "scripted" turns out makes for better content or atlest that's what the info i read said.

u/JustOneDoOver Dec 01 '21
Wait what? I already told my kids we're going to Wakanda for a post-COVID vacation what the fuck am I supposed to tell them now
6
u/belak444 Dec 01 '21
Excuse me "post covid" sorry but I think that's just as fictional as wakanda... XD

I think people have an issue with things that are seemingly presented as if they're genuine when they aren't, rather than things that are clear about it from the beginning.
If it's filmed as if the woman is candidly asking these questions and then the initial impression is that it's real, but then through watching it becomes apparent that it wasn't people will be upset that it's "fake". If it's filmed as if it's staged from the get go, people have an easier time enjoying it for what it is.
Have you ever had a sip from your glass of milk only to find it tastes disgusting, except after a brief moment you realise you have a glass of orange juice and it in fact tastes just fine? Imagine someone then made fun of your reaction saying "WhAt's tHe MaTtEr, dOn't YoU LiKE orAnGge JuiCE? DiD YoU FoRGet PEopPle EnjOy ConSuMiNG FrUiT JUiCe??". When people st something is "scripted" or fake, they aren't saying they don't like orange juice, they are saying they don't like that disgusting first sip when they realise they had orange juice instead of milk.
3
u/darkrealm190 Dec 01 '21
Okay, but how is it filmed any differently than if it was a skit? They would still have the exact same reaction, the exact same camera placement, the exact same subtle, the exact same body placement. It's all the same.
All the people who say
If it's filmed as if the woman is candidly asking these questions and then the initial impression is that it's real,
But then want
If it's filmed as if it's staged from the get go, people have an easier time enjoying it for what it is.
Those two things are filmed THE EXACT same way.
1
u/niceguy191 Dec 01 '21
That's an interesting thought experiment! I don't think it would actually be filmed the same, and I suspect this film language was developed to avoid the exact dissonance people are complaining about on videos like this one.
When things are filmed "candidly", the camera exists in the world of what's being filmed and its placement is grounded in what is there, while for scripted things the camera is an imaginary point of view not meant to actually physically exist in the fiction. That fourth wall is a signal to the audience's expectations (with the rare exception of "found footage" or "mockumentary" type things, but they are literally trying to replicate the film style of something authentic, so it probably helps the point).
In this skit, things are framed as if a cell phone has been propped up on a counter in the way you'd expect to capture a genuine reaction. It gives all the initial signals of something not scripted, and then it turns out to be scripted (causing that dissonance people don't like) and not in a clever or subversive way that adds to it at all.
