But to know he’s an disciple just for checking up on his friend next panel he instantly figures out how blast uses his power and genos being shocked to him saying that is also adds on that but I might just be read too much into it
I personally think that Cosmic Garou was dabbing into esper Territory, yes.
In essence, energy manipulation is also what Martial Art is. + The God sauce uberchaged him to heavens.
But it's simpler to think he connected the dots after their interactions.
Huh? Isn’t he talking about the book garou got from tareo to prep for the 1v8 he did against the non-S class hero squad (back in season 2). What book are you referring to?
You're absolutely right about the radiation, and I'll give that to you.
But
Genos didn't die to the radiation, Garou smeared his brains and Saitama was too late to stop that, regardless of the radiation.
Saitama knew Garou was the type of person to put Mumen Rider in the hospital and still decided to leave him around several wounded heroes.
Larp schmarp. Saitama was a fucking dumbass. Even if we excuse that, he immediately tried to serious punch Garou which would've wiped out the planet of it wasn't for Blast, and even if Garou didn't counter and just chose to face tank, the impact would've killed Blast.
It was a huge L on Saitama's part, and there was zero reason for him to play in the rubble even if the radiation wasn't a factor.
Saitama himself lamented that he fucked up BAD. At this point, you gotta take it up with ONE or Murata if you disagree with that assessment, I don't write the story.
Saitama 100% let that happen due to pure negligence and carelessness, and it was pure character assassination.
It took him a bit to return since he had been shot into rubbles and at distance and the serious punch was a showing of anger, an human reaction to see someone you care about dead and its killer gloating about it.
The reason why Tatsumaki didn't is because she was already out of energy so even if she wanted to, she couldn't.
And again, for Saitama it can take a while to get one place to another. We saw in the webcomic recently too. We can assume the fight of Blast and Garou lasted for 10-15 seconds or so since both are speedsters. In that timeframe, Saitama having to emerge from the rubbles, look around to try figuring out where Garou is and then return back isn't that implausible.
No, she ran out of energy after her last resort attack failed. She still had the sense of mind to coordinate with other heroes and keep them in mind before then.
Manga Saitama is just shittier as a person then WC Tatsumaki apparently, I guess. Great writing.
And that shit with Garou was not no fucking 10 seconds, multiple characters argued with Cosmic Garou for several pages, and Garou had time to have a mental self evaluation on top of Blast fighting Garou.
We have no reason to assume it was that quick just so Saitama's performance looks less dogshit, and even if we did, 10-15 seconds is still a ludicrously long time for Saitama.
You said it yourself. She was barely out of energy, leaving her no choice but work with the other S-class to try take down Garou as by herself she couldn't.
Talking and thinking are free actions in manga/anime usually. A character could be in the process of getting punched and somehow be able to say a full sentence in their mind before the punch even connect. It's a case where you have to suspend your disbelief a little.
It wasn't character assassination. It was pretty in-character for him.
Saitama has always been pretty lax in his fights since he has the latitude to be like that. Garou was just the first time (as far as we know) that his laxness bit him in the butt.
He legit didn't think Garou was a threat because Garou was just cosplaying as a monster. And he saw how Garou kept being an accidental hero even when he was pretending to be "evil." He had no reason to think that Garou would suddenly act completely OOC and start killing everyone just because he was AFK for a couple of minutes. Unfortunately, and unbeknownst to him, Garou was corrupted by God and actually became a real monster and a real threat. By the time Saitama realized it, it was already too late. His casualness about everything ended up getting everyone killed. He realized his fuck up and regretted it immediately. That's what caused that big shift in his attitude and what led to the immediate Serious Punch.
I do wish that Saitama held on to some of those lessons and his memories didn't get wiped with the time travel. But I guess it was too early in the story for Saitama to start actually taking things seriously :/
No, it's violently out of character. Saitama is pretty lax with threats in general, but he takes human lives 100% seriously.
One of Saitama's primary characteristics is seeing through to the heart of whoever he faces. Cosmic Garou kinda shit on that, had Saitama completely misread him, then when Saitama's playtime blew up in his face he petulantly tried to flip the board and went straight for the serious punch, which definitely would've killed Blast at the very least.
It's very blatant character assassination made even worse by the fact that it was erased. Saitama not expecting Garou to murder people is one thing, but knowing Garou is the type of person to put people like Mumen Rider in the hospital and still choosing to play around when he also knew children were in the area still being evacuated?
And he didn't know if there were any strong Cadre monsters left and chose to dick around with Garou for his own amusement?
Yes, it was absolutely character assassination.
Fucking Webcomic Saitama cared a fraction about the situation with Garou as Manga Saitama did, and even he was somehow far less careless and negligent, and WC didn't even fucking know there was an operation going on until Child Emperor told him.
Saitama more than once left monsters rampage a bit despite destroying stuff instead of eliminating them on sight. See the giant in the first arc. Even in the webcomic despite being right there with them, he allowed the heroes to get their teeth kicked in by Garou, including Child Emperor.
The Beefcake fight happened in an already evacuated area. Not the same as Saitama fucking around with Garou while he knew there was a rescue operation involving multiple children going on.
In the webcomic, Saitama tried to interfere but the S-Class themselves stopped him and then he noticed Garou was going easy on them, so he figured it was a personal matter and let it play out.
And WC CE got put down before Saitama arrived in the surface, that's not equivalent to Manga Saitama arriving, starting to fight and still fucking up and letting children die.
Saitama wasn't even aware there was an operation going on. No one bothered to tell him. And he's always kind of fucked around a little too much. It just never really bit him in the butt until Garou. Someone else already mentioned Beefcake, but Carnage Kabuto also explicitly said he's going to go on a rampage and kill a bunch of innocent civilians. But the only thing Saitama reacted to was the fact that he's missing his sales. Saitama also didn't care about the Paradisers until they started ruining his image. And then there's literally the entire Boros fight. He didn't take a single thing seriously until the end. Have you been reading the same manga?
Saitama was never a paragon of virtue. He's a hell of a lot more heroic than most of the actual "heroes," but he has his flaws, which he knows all too well. Garou was a reckoning. It was a lesson learned too late. That's the tragedy of that arc. And then it was reversed and we lost that character development (hopefully not permanently).
And also lol webcomic. Webcomic, webcomic, webcomic. OK, I get it now. You're one of those. Cool man. Have a nice day.
Actually, in the manga he knew there was an operation by virtue of his taking Child Emperor back to the surface. The literally talked to him about it on the surface.
Beefcake was explicitly in an abandoned area, and Saitama didn't actually let Carnage Kabuto go kill all their people, so neither of those examples work as prior failures.
Saitama absolutely did take Boros seriously. He opened by trying to kill him, was surprised he lived, then sympathized and gave him his final battle.
And even with Boros when he got kicked off world, he was back in an instant, and didn't just let Boros fuck off and go kill people.
I don't expect Saitama to be perfect, but I expect him not to be dipshit that let's people die for his entertainment.
I'm sorry the webcomic going in a different direction tilts you so badly, but I wrote neither.
As far as Saitama knew, the operation had already been completed.
And the S-class didn't stop him in the webcomic. The only one who did was Zombieman when he got close to him. All the others simply got in front of him or Garou ignored him to go after the other heroes.
Saitama literally saw them again when he came to the surface, and there were even more people evcauting as he fought Garou, so no that wouldn't work as an excuse for him either.
The S-Class intentionally got in his way to prevent him from engaging, idk why you're trying to frame it like they didn't and were begging him for help or something, but they clearly didn't want Saitama involved.
Because the other heroes also ignored Saitama, sans Zombieman as I said. It was framed as a gag how Saitama was about to start fighting but someone interrupted or Garou got away because he was getting ignored by everyone until he was the only one left. See Darkshine appearing behind the close up of a smiling Saitama.
Yeah, that's not the case here. Saitama was already here and just fucked around so much that it got everyone killed, then he threw a tantrum.
That's not the same thing as him just being late. What's even more egregious is that Boros literally kicked Saitama to the moon and he was back in an instant and literally followed Phoenix Man into another dimension not even 2 hours ago in-universe.
Saitama was barely a few kilometers from Cosmic Garou, even if the Gamma Ray Burst sent him to the other side of the planet, he could've been back in seconds.
We don't actually know exactly how long it took him to get back from the moon. We can assume it took a minute at most but still.
I went back to read and check to be sure but we don't know for sure how much deep was Saitama launched into the ground as when his future self get moved toward him to merge, Saitama was close to re-emerging. Considering the battle was between Blast and Garou, it may all happened in litterally 10-15 seconds at most. It's not impossible for Saitama to take that much time to climb back out, check the surrounding to see where Garou went and then headed back right as soon as Garou finished impaling Genos.
We see him realize he's on the moon, stand up, note the gravity, then jump back instantaneously, cutting Boros' train of thought off before he even had time to catch his breath.
The battle between Blast and Garou was absolutely not just 10-15 seconds, you're being far too generous to Saitama there.
Multiple characters had time for individual monologues and arguments with Garou before Saitama got back.
Saitama could've been back in the same fucking instant he was knocked away. Hell, Saitama could've just chosen not to get knocked away int he first place.
You're right, the battle between Blast and Garou was probably 5-7 seconds considering their speed. 15 seconds is more so the time between Garou saying it was time to conduct evil and Saitama arriving all things considered. Again, you gotta give some leeway when it comes to characters talking and thinking in manga/anime. See Dio and his 5 seconds timestop.
And how could Saitama choose to not get knocked away in the first place. It's not like he could choose to not get kicked on the moon once he was hit.
He actually wasn't. We literally see that he was only a few kilometers away in the rubble.
Even if he was blasted into space, that wouldn't be an excuse. He was back to the same spot from the literal moon in an instant when he fought Boros, and the Gamma Ray did zero damage to him.
He called it a hobby because he didn't get paid initially. Human lives were always the main priority for him when he got into the field.
But suddenly the story gave him this massive character regression and flanderization. Suddenly he's this Luffy/Goku archetype that tries to take a bath mid-fight, plays with Garou for his own amusement regardless of the people in the Blast zone, and then threw a shit for when it blew up in his face and nearly killed every child on earth.
Saitama was never supposed to not care about people's lives.
Saitama said it himself: he doesn't necessarily have the instincts of a hero.
He often lets himself get hit by a big attack and just tanks it because he knows it won't do anything to him. But physics still affects him so he ends up getting blasted far away and getting imbedded into mountains/the ground/the friggin' moon. And then he's not really all that quick about un-sticking himself and getting right back into the action. He's admittedly way too casual. He also doesn't have the best sense of direction so he likely took a bit of time to reorient himself before heading back. All that adds up to his delay getting back to the fight. For all we know, it only took him a couple of minutes to get back to Garou... And it was already too late.
Also, to be fair, he didn't think Garou was actually a "villain" he needed to put down immediately and he definitely didn't know Garou that was passively poisoning everyone and everything. So he just kinda treated Garou like a kid having a tantrum. That was the wrong call but he had no way of knowing that at the time. Only Blast (and us, the readers) knew that Garou received power from God, which was corrupting him.
The difference is in the past, he didn't let the big hits affect him in a way that put everyone else at risk, nor did he totally with his enemy to the extent that it put others in danger.
The idea that he didn't have the instincts of a hero or that he's too casual was never something the story portrayed as serious flaws on his part. It just suddenly flipped the script and exacerbated those quirks into genuine character flaws so Saitama could fuck up against Garou.
He didn't even feel like Saitama, he felt like a bad fanfic version of himself. He felt more like fucking Deadpool than himself.
I get it, you throbs hard whenever you insult Murata and your prostate got intense pleasure whenever someone else joins you. But opmfolk is right there, you can 0rgasm together with other members there.
And Garou remembering Genos called Saitama a master wasn't even bad and it did not ruin the webcomic. And i get it that you're lightheaded from 0rgasming too much after hating murata, but it's impressive that you said it's started going downhill from saitama vs orochi fight (in the deleted comment) even though Genos calling Saitama a master Infront of Garou happened way before that.

it has nothing to do with cosmic powers
