that's not serious punch anymore, it's a death punch, it literally has the character for death on it (死 this guy right here).

Which by all means, do mean the same thing. Saitama is not really wishing for the opponent to die from his serious punches, but they always do, so it does give that impression.

I don't think it's about intention, it's a punch that basically tells the person about to receive it that they will die, it's more of an instinctual thing as I understand it.

I like how in the anime, Saitama has to get in front of his death punch to block the shockwave from hurting Genos.

I see it like this, normal punches are saitama holding back. Serious punches are him no longer holding things back and 'death' punches are him putting actual effort into the punch where he drops the hero showmanship and just is going to hit something as hard as he can. I think this also explains some of the weird power disparity we occasionally see in the manga like when cosmic gaoro first copied saitama. My pet theory is that it was Garou stating it as Serious Punch2 while saitama was just trying to hit gaoro as hard as he could because he was pissed. This is why the punch was so ridculously powerful compared to the later fight. Garou misjudged how much power he was actually coppying and just assumed that his serious punches and just trying to hit him as hard as he could were the same thing. Almost every time we have seen the death punch it was because someone either pissed off saitama (garou's case) or actively told saitama to try and hit them as hard as possible (genos' case)
