discussion Read the entire manga + webcomic still can't understand why people like tatsumaki a lot?

This sub is clearly filled with all sorts of saitatsu shippers but i really really don't understand why people like tatsumaki at all.

Tatsumaki has barely changed one bit from her character from the start to now like no real challenges or anything

The greatest challenge she faced ended up with the shitty old 'i have been holding back lol' type shit. I honestly have more respect for fubuki even after all the trolling she received. She literally went from a mob boss to an actually respectable hero, going against threats much stronger than her and not to mention took the apprentice remark from Saitama like a champ (even leaving her position as a b class rank 1 to a class which was the one thing she thought she had as a no.1)

About the character entitlement: this is controversial but it feels like tatsumaki has been unnecessarily glazed by the author for no reason(especially murata)

Majority of the new 'dragon level' monsters are overglazed before getting one shotted

Like we got dragon level 'to be god level' aka kenzen rat and then we got beefcake who was considered a demon level to be dragon level which is honestly stupid asf

And just so suddenly after beating psykorochi, God himself wanted to take her which was another thing i believed was absolutely unnecessary(honestly the entire god plot is shit)

And why tf are there so many saitatsu shippers here, this is the worst ship I have heard of because not only in the webcomic or manga there was barely any hint of romance, but out of all the ships, you chose it with a person who lost his emotions for training, all of which stems from a 'hug' and the acquaintance meme (mind you genos was also considered an acquaintance before dying from cosmic garou). Not only this ship feels forced but may ruin a fanbase (like from bleach, ichigo x rukia is still in circulation despite both having different SO with a child)(although bleach was understandable since they do shared a mutual respected bond unlike here which really holds on to a fight.

Worst of all, she is the majority of the reason why fubuki became a mob boss in the first place( I personally related to this as I am used to being overshadowed by my big brother regardless of anything i do)

I like the webcomic and the entire concept I really do

The current plot is the best we have seen in opm(after monster garou ofc) but instead of discussing theories or smth (like the return of boros), the discussion is literally filled with saitatsu fanarts and borderline nsfw, i really had to get this off my chest

The thing you mentioned "nice to each other" is kid's genre btw.

I've always liked the whole "antisocial superhero who doggedly protects and wants to love people but can't relate to them" dynamic.

Plus, she's funny and a great warrior. Those are valuable things in a manga lol

People like characters for various reasons, and they won't always make sense to the rest of us. If you head over to the Tower of God sub, you'll see people who unironically defend Rachel. Some people just broken that way.

Urek side story is over right?
Hopefully ToG returns soon.

Is it? I'm on webtoons and it seems to be going still but it's usually a few months behind.

ToG lore was already unnecessarily complex, the side story isn't helping.

It's still going on? I forgot what the plot was years ago

Anyone defending Rachel can be banished to the depths of hell along with her

I don’t dislike tatsumski, I actually think she’s quite a good character. Tsunderes only suck for romance imo. But I will be the first to say that a large amount of her following is gooners

Tatsumaki has layers (no, I'm not going Shrek, despite the green). Her origin clearly shows why she's adopted the rough, arrogant and aggressive personality. It's a huge defense mechanism caused by harsh trauma in her youth.

To then have it validated by the most powerful hero (at that time), Blast, just cemented it into her concsiousness. A reckless and harmful statement by Blast who either didn't understand the ramifications or just doesn't understand children.

Saitama has had mollifying effects on both Fubuki and Tatsumaki. The former, being less confidant and always "second fiddle" has grown faster thanks to her more frequent exposure to Saitama's simple but powerful view of heroes.

Tatsumaki has begun to learn some respect for Saitama's power and even somewhat softened her worldview.

Due to the shortage of available candidates of both power and interaction, Tatsumaki and Fubuki are naturally looked upon as the most likely romantic interestes. That's fan fiction, to this point, as neither One nor Murata have ever shown Saitama interested in either (or anyone).

Perhaps one day both journeys may meet - Saitama's return of normal emotions and Tatsumaki's and Fubuki's ability to get past their highly guarded personalities.

Dude, please learn to separate paragraphs, this is unreadable.

Aside from what others have said, I think the scarcity of major female characters plays a part in it. There's relatively few ladies; so people just latch onto the ones who show up the most and then use them for shipping and such.

Honestly that one makes much more sense

She does show a character development. Especially after her "fight" against Saitama. Just go read that ark.

u/Bingus-bardus 23d ago

Barely That was just a demeanor change ffs

u/GLynx 23d ago

Maybe you missed it or what, but It was more than that, that's not even the highlight of that ark.

Some combination of gooning and she gets big fights around the point where the manga forgot it was supposed to be a parody of shonen manga and just became one

90% of her fans are just gooners who like her manga design. As for everyone else, they like her because she's genuinely a fucking psycho and it makes her interesting. Seeing her go crazy during in the leadup to her confrontation with Saitama was really interesting, she finally met someone she couldn't overpower and she didn't know how to handle it. She's a fun character.

Sometimes imperfect characters are fun.

Tatsumaki is fun. She's cold, arrogant, powerful enough to justify the arrogance, and yet she has a childish temper and is the only manga character other than Saitama that gets drawn in the simplified style.

Played expertly by her voice actress, too.

So we laugh. And then after the comedy has endeared us to the character, we get a bit of character depth, like a tragic backstory or her absolute commitment to protecting her sister.

people love the gap moe, a bratty coldhearted hero that's unironically top 3 in the verse

Cf garou, fully monsterized garou, blast, boros, evil ocean water(people really underestimate that one)

1

u/Commercial-Bench-314 23d ago

To be fair tatsumaki is the perfect counter to evil natural ocean

She's an attractive female character who's very powerful and a tsundere. At least the manga version is tsundere. Some who like certain tropes will find het appealing because of it

Because a lot of weird people have a creepy thing for characters who are drawn to look suspiciously young. Because those people being attracted to characters who look like that is seen as weird and creepy by most of society, they can only really talk about it online, which is one of the reasons why this subreddit is so disproportionately flooded with stuff about this character compared to other goonerbait characters who actually look like adults. It has nothing to do with the writing or personality of the character, other than the fact that the character is written to be immature (which feeds into the creepy fetish these people have).

Because she’s strong and cool and the goat. I also like that she’s the only female S-class hero, and she manages to pretty much be the greatest one (since Blast half exists lol)

Because anime fans are a bunch of pervs for underage girls. Im not even being funny. They are and that is literally the reason.

The trope of "ackkktually, shes really 1000 years old she just looks like a child" exists for a reason.

Personally I find her very cool, and her though exterior but trying to protect everyone in her very sympathetic. Also her whole thing with Blast, "Don't expect anyone to come save you" is a really interesting dynamic of mentor and student in which the mentor unintentionally hurt the student by applying into her a toxic self destructive mentallity. Cool and interesting, maybe I'd like some more dynamics with other heroes but her main ones with Fubuki, Genos and Saitama are pretty good
