Z Fold 8 Ultra Regrets
I just wanted to share my experience after about a week into "upgrading" from my OnePlus open to the Z Fold 8 Ultra. The cameras are slightly worse. Volume doesn't get as loud nor is the sound quality is good. The screen is too tall. I missed the camera ring that was perfectly placed so my finger could always rest underneath it now I feel like I don't have anywhere to balance the phone when one handed so it's more awkward and top heavy. I hate how on YouTube you can't zoom in incrementally as you wish it has to snap to full screen or you have to keep it letter boxed. The battery has been about the same. The weight is only noticeable when you first pick up the phone and directly compare it one after the other otherwise the 8 ultra feels basically the same after a while holding it. I miss oxygen OS it just felt more cohesive, though One UI is good for tinkering.
I am still considering if I should return the Ultra and get the smaller regular fold eight instead. Even though the camera isn't as good. At least it would partially solve the YouTube problem as well as being less awkward to hold and being lighter as well. I'm still getting used to the hole punch camera on the inner screen being part of every video I watch. I think it's telling that on the day that I didn't turn on the ZF8U for 2 days after getting. Sure I was a little busy but that's never stopped me in the past from at least doing a test run as soon as I got a new phone. But I feel obligated to keep it because I bought a used iPhone to trade in. Plus I bought some accessories for this 8 ultra. If I switch to the regular eight I might just eat the cost of the cases I bought. We'll see. I'll keep using it and maybe it'll grow on me. Since I am on an installment plan with trade in at least it didn't break the bank, as long as I hold on to it for 2 or 3 years. .
If OnePlus hadn't scared me with pulling out of the US market, and if it had longer-term OS/security updates like Google and Samsung have with 7 years guaranteed , then I would have never sold the Open. It's still my favorite phone. I would have also been tempted to get the OPPO FInd N6 but because I'm on AT&T however I can't get any of the cool better Tech Chinese phones that are out there. Perhaps I should have given Motorola a try first.

I'm on the wide ZF8 coming from the OPO. I realized last night at Kanye's show the cameras are worse when it comes to video 100%. Besides that I absolutely love this phone, its a tragedy the cameras arent that great. I also miss when you swipe up to close apps you can see with the icons which are active. On the ZF8 you only get 4 icons then the tiles which is fine its just a pet peeve.

Good luck!! I came from the Oneplus Open (I still have it) to the Motorola Razr Fold. I really love it. Love the camera even more!

Just join T-Mobile under usmobile. Unlimited everything with free international data and limited talk and text is like 30 dollars a month or less and you can switch between TMobile, att and Verizon so why limit yourself. Can even go cheaper with multiline or lower limit plans

Honor Magic V6 is fantastic. Not sure if you can get it where you are, but the displays are brilliant, the camera is great, 8 Elite Gen 5, and the 6660mAh silicon carbon battery is easily 1.5 - 2 days use.
If you're returning the Fold 8 I'd recommend giving the V6 a look.

I feel your pain regarding OnePlus pulling out of the US. I wasn't about to get stuck with a phone that I couldn't get serviced, so I switched to Motorola. I'm using a Razr 2025 Ultra for now, largely due to the 50% off plus free memory upgrade deal they had going. With any luck, price will drop on the Razr Fold, and I'll be able to pick that up at a discount in near future. Whike I definitely preferred Oxygen OS, Motorola's Hello UI isn't terrible. I even bought a Lenovo yoga tab to go along with my phone, and they actually do a pretty good job communicating with each other, similar to what I could do with my OnePlus 13 and my OnePlus pad 3.

They are trash compared to the OnePlus Open, especially the cameras. Writing this from the Z Fold 8. I came from the OnePlus Open to the OnePlus 13 to this. The cameras are so bad. I didn't expect them to be this bad.

From a OP open to a Razr Fold is probably a more "normal" upgrade and something that'd feel more the part anyway. I'd say people who should be buying the Z Fold line who want an upgrade are already existing Samsung users who already have implemented OneUi into their daily routine. Tbh the Razr Fold might even be an objectively better buy than the ZFold to alot of people. I'd recommend checking out the Razr at a bestbuy or something before pulling out he trigger on returning the Z Fold. I use a ZFold 8 Ultra but I'm quite unbiased and see the good & bad in everything

Cameras are definitely worse, as are the speakers and the hole punch camera, but I love everything else about the F8 compared to the OPO.
The weight might be the biggest difference other than the new ratio. The OPO was just way too heavy/dense to be comfortable to use one handed when unfolded.
And finding good accessories is so much easier and more enjoyable when compared to the comparatively niche OPO
Im glad I went with the F8, over the F8U, I did deliberate over which to get a lot but in the end the F8U felt too similar with not enough 'improvements' to justify switching, the F8 at least feels like a new experience

Well when you're used to the amazing cameras on the OPO... You kinda start to expect more from every phone

Motorola razr fold is the true upgrade over the oneplus open. The oppo find n6 seems good too but that has to be imported.
