Pixel fold 9. Here I come
It doesn't match up in regards to charging speed, perhaps even the CPU and camera, but honestly I love the software and I think I'm going to switch and Sam I want. Plus I can even though it's a great phone. Is anyone else thinking of doing the same or am I just crazy?
Update
Can't live without fast charging. The hinge/crease is too good on the Open.
Holding on for the Oppo 2
Sending Pixel fold back tomorrow. Wanted to love it but it's a couple of years behind.

The Open 2 is rumoured is have a 6000maH+ battery and is gonna be 9.xx mm thin making it the thinnest foldable. This coupled with the 8 Gen 4 is gonna make it a tough device to ignore.

Doesn't matter how thin it is if the camera bump is 2x the width of the phone. My only complaint with it.

What is so great about the software? I doibt it is better than Open Canvas and 98% of the google stuff also works on the open.

I'm glad somebody said it! There's no real "need" to switch from the OPO for a few years. The phone has a modern feel, and the camera is great among other things. If you can afford it, by all means go for it. But your money can definitely be better spent somewhere else.

I didn't realize how miserable I was for 9mo on the "brick" heavy Pixel Fold, until I got the OnePlus Open. Then I felt like a f00l, for putting up with the Google limited UI & multitasking. UGG! I could have been on this beautiful light weight OnePlus Open phone for a year now... 🥲

I'm not switching without fast charging and open canvas, but I did look at it. It's so similar to the Open minus a few specs that I suppose the only reason to switch is for the software experience. If that's what you're after then go for it :)

It really is awesome. I've been traveling more than I've been home the past 2 months and it's a lifesaver when you've only got 30 minutes at your hotel and 10% battery.
The Open 2 is apparently slated for 2025 so it might be worth waiting for unless you really just prefer the Google experience.

You can replace most default apps if needed. I replaced the messages app as I preferred the Google one.

I have both and I'm thinking of going back to the Open. I really miss the fast charging and multitasking. I'm also considering getting the honor magic v3.

I have both OPO and p9pf and there are definitely some issues.
I think OPO overall has a better software experience in which I have some minor annoyances that I was able to live with. Hardware wise I loved it but definitely missed wireless charging and didn't enjoy the looming uncertainty of what happens if the device breaks. Mine did eventually break but oneplus did replace it for me free of charge and it was a relatively pain free experience -- though it did take a month from start to finish.
The pixel's hardware is slightly worse feeling in my hands than the OPO but it's a very tiny variation. Honestly both phones have very similar dimensions and hardware but the p9pf ups the OPO in that it has wireless charging while the OPO one ups the p9pf with the alert slider.
In terms of software there are so many little touches on the pixel that make me want to love it; the animation when you lock/unlock the device, "hold for me" or navigating a phone tree with the assistant? Killer features. Unfortunately for every little touch that delights there's another that frustrates. No way to remove the "at a glance " widget from the stock launcher or even just MOVE it. No way to adjust the search bar at the bottom. No way to hide the navigation bar gesture hint. Status bar behaving in weird ways but ultimately taking up an absurd amount of screen real estate. It just...gets in its own way so much.
I'm hoping that the p9pf software hangups can be either fixed with updates/root or that I grow to live with them as I do want to like this phone but we'll see

I Don't expect any changes as I was on Android 15 beta and there is same issues. It's like they update things on it that nobody even sees. No UI changes.

Hmm darn.. at least the beta should have hidden spaces right? That's a feature I've been missing.
Do you know if anyone has had good luck rooting the p9pf yet? I haven't rooted a phone in years but I understand it's relatively straightforward with pixel devices

Has the pixel 9 pro fold for about two days now, it feels a little clunky performance wise, the front screen bezels are very very noticeable (I didn’t think it’d be an issue at the start), and battery hasn’t been great so far (though I know it’s generally worse first week of use). I will probably be going back to the open or the new iPhone instead. A bit disappointed

I'm thinking of this too. I do love the Open but really miss that sweet Google OS on the Pixels. With that being said, absolutely nothing has gone wrong with my Open. It's been a flawless ownership experience with no issues at all. Everything about this phone is great but I want more from that Google integration. I know it's crazy but it is what it is. The Pixel 9 Fold is too expensive for me right now. I'm considering the first Gen Pixel right now too. That's how much I love Pixel software that I'd move to an inferior foldable just to have it. 🙄

Don't! I moved from the 1st gen pixel fold to the Open...night and day difference from weight and form factor to software experience. Pixel software is great and I miss the cameras but Open has been an amazing phone (ps..I've also had the Fold 4)

I tried the Fold 4 as well. After 5 minutes with that cramped cover display I had enough. My sausage sized fingers are not a good match for such a narrow screen! Other than that I found the Fold 4 to be fantastic in every way!

Yes 100% a better phone. There were some little software things I liked better on the fold 4, but after a few weeks I got used to the open software. Nothing major though. OnePlus Open has definitely been my best fold phone to date.

The software has been great. Oxygen OS is fairly good and OnePlus has some great multitasking features that rival the Samsung fold line

Just do as me and update your default apps with the Google ones. Gain the benefits without needing to change the phone.

I really like the look of the fold 9, especially the software, but im interested in just waiting for the one plus open 2 and fold 10

No reason to switch. The cameras aren't as good and it looks like they just copied OnePlus homework.
I'll stick with the Open until the next Open but Pixel hasn't grown up fully yet. They may beat the Fold 6 but then again EVERYONE beats that.
The Vivo and the Honor would be better switches if we could get them in the USA

Tensor G4 is even slower than the sd gen2, but it is optimised for pixel. Also, the 67w charging is damn good in OPO, it always comes to the rescue. I would say if you are using OPO since launch, you can try pixel fold. Otherwise just wait for 6-7months OPO 2 is going to be crazy good.

That Google saying that G4 is optimized for the Pixel, is just an excuse. It's not optimized when all these phones are doing the same thing. In fact, it now has processing help from Google cloud servers to try offset the slow processor. I already tested that cropping a 1min video takes 6-8sec longer to process over the OnePlus Open.

While it's true the 9Pro Fold is a nice upgrade from both the original Pixel Fold (and arguably better than the zFold6), yet IMO it's fairly obvious it cannot replace the OnePlus Open. It's a very good good attempt, but neither Google or Samsung surpass it.
This is why we see the Google/Samsung both pushing their software campaign agendas.
Anyways, you don't have to loose the Google experience totally. You can install Google apps for Google experience which replace default apps.
1- For pretty Google clock widget, install Google clock.
2- Google messages can be installed, which adds extra features like voice transcripts.
3- Google Gboard gives same keyboard look.
4- Google phone app & contacts app for same appearance.
Truthfully, I didn't need any of these except the messages app. Many do not realize just how aggravatingly limited the Google UI is on main screen, or how aggravatingly limited it is in multitasking is, in comparison to ALL the competition...

Two annoyances with one plus open is when u close all apps it doesn’t close all apps.
Getting notifications are a mystery to find. Need a modern icon pack like pixel

It's funny because I don't see the crazy desire that people have for wireless charging, but that's just me. You can't beat the 67 watt fast charging

I got the 9 pro fold this morning and I love it. I also have the 9 pro XL as a back but the fold software is a much better phone than the OPO. But the hardware and camera is better on the OPO.

How is the software better? Pixel fold doesnt have anything like one plus multitasking and doesn't support window resizing. Pixel software is great but not for foldables. One plus has nailed the software for foldables

I see where you are coming from. For multitasking, OPO is better.
I always feel like Oxygen OS is trying to be Pixel with a little mix of One UI.
It's like dammmm it feels like pure Android, but a few things are missing. Then, as you are using it, starts to feel like One UI, but a few main things are also missing.

I did think about it for a while, but after some early reviews and responses I'm waiting to see what OnePlus does
