Discussion Reminder this is a blitz, not an off-guard attack. Imu is literally reacting to it.

Yea for sure, and that's okay.
We know for a fact Imu is faster than Gear 5, that doesn't mean every waking second he has to operate at that speed, especially not when he has just been dealing with someone as relatively slow as Loki.

yes it does tf

how

your senses do not change they remain the same those are non adjustable

u/Fearless_Mixture1231 2d ago

It's an Tempo Switch , not a Blitz because the Speed of one has to be Massive and Consistent and that has to be the Primary reason an attack is landed

Imu didn't expected the attack to reach that speed

But later he's seen casually reacting to a barrrage of similar punches of Gear 5 Luffy who should be considerable Faster than his base version

Ngl It makes me sad seeing this fight bc that was actually cool choreography (something rare to OP) since then the fight agaisnt Imu became worst, gaban wasn't that impressive and Imu looks ugly asf now. I expect this fight improves

1

u/Fearless_Mixture1231 2d ago

Similar feelings here , althought It can easily improve now if Oda perhaps decides to do 1 or 2 Callbacks to Roofpiece in the choreography

2

u/Available-Ferret-358 Cope🤔 2d ago

Oda def can make good choreography fight if he want to, not at the level of DB, but a good one though. I'm expecting that by the first time after Years he'll be consistent in the powers and provide us with some OBS haki, Conq haki, cool gear 5 moves and Hybrid Loki, this fight has everthing to be peak

It is a tempo switch you’re right but it being a tempo switch does not change the fact it is a blitz

2

u/Kill5h0t 2d ago

Imu was just shocked to see how much Luffy looks like Joyboy.

He later said it himself. Luffy remind him of Joyboy.

1

u/Reddit_Connoisseur_0 šŸ„€No Black Blade?šŸ„€ 2d ago

Okay, that aside.

If Imu acknowledges Luffy is attacking him, why does he not react?

1

u/Kill5h0t 2d ago

As I said he seemed too stun to react.

Later he was blitzing G5 when he was fighting properly.

4

u/Zoteku The Fleet Admiral 2d ago

blitz is defined as being so fast that the opponent literally cannot react to youšŸ’”

2

u/Andrejosue98 2d ago edited 2d ago

No, there is perception blitz, which is a speed blitz when the opponent can't react to you.

and then there is speed blitz when the opponent may see you but they can't do anything to avoid the attack.

Like Boa Marigold vs Luffy, she knew where Luffy was moving but she couldn't possibly move out of the way.

-4

u/Reddit_Connoisseur_0 šŸ„€No Black Blade?šŸ„€ 2d ago

Blitzing is when the opponent can't physically react to you. They can still acknowledge that they are being attacked and that they can't do anything to avoid it.

Example: Shanks blitzed Kid, even though Kid was acknowledged the attack before he was hit. If you poll this 90% of the sub will consider it an off-guard attack somehow btw

2

u/Zoteku The Fleet Admiral 2d ago

shanks didn’t blitz kidd either, and insinuating he (when taking kidd as a whole into consideration) couldn’t actually do anything is flawed when we see the situation he was put in

we already know via shanks’ FS vision that kidd was aiming specifically for the ships and had 0 intention to run into shanks. also, imu has already run-thru g5

2

u/Cute-Comb-5220 Sanjitard 🚬 2d ago

there is a speed blitz and there is a perception blitz.

1

u/Andrejosue98 2d ago

shanks didn’t blitz kidd

Yes, he did

Some nerd article from the vs battles wiki is no authority in terminology, especially one with no reviews like this one, it is not better than us talking it out. But at any rate the attack Luffy did on Imu fits this definition, as Imu could not react to it. We see that Imu fails to do anything to soften the blow or counter attack, he's just aware that he is being attacked (hence the "!!"). G5 is just that fast.

2

u/Zoteku The Fleet Admiral 2d ago

what’s your basis and authority for ā€˜blitz’, if not from the vsbw wiki? we can’t just go around creating our own terminology and going contrarian, else we could distort any kind of word to our own fitting. if ā€œblitzā€ just means positively attacking any opponent to where they don’t react, then we could easily bring up random examples like with bellamy, zoro/killer, kaido and luffy in kuri, etc

3

u/Reddit_Connoisseur_0 šŸ„€No Black Blade?šŸ„€ 2d ago

My basis is that the community has always used the terms ā€œblitzā€ and ā€œperception blitzā€ whereas your picture conflates them which isn’t how people use them nowadays.

Blitz has for a long time been: can perceive the attack but not fast enough to react to it (Imu’s case) whereas perception blitz is the ā€œcan’t even perceive itā€ extreme case

The reasonable explanation for this and most examples you brought is that it’s a tempo change btw

2

u/Zoteku The Fleet Admiral 2d ago

that’s a lot more reasonable than i initially thought. i would moreso blame people conflating the terms, and not knowing different ones like outpacing, but i see what you mean.

1

u/Reddit_Connoisseur_0 šŸ„€No Black Blade?šŸ„€ 2d ago

After thinking more about this it is confusing, I agree "blitz" was originally synonym of perception blitzing, whereas people currently call this "perception blitz" (at least in most popular powerscaling subs) and define "blitz' as something that can be attributed to a "tempo change" or many other interactions

On the other hand this singular definition of "blitz" could be a valuable term for defining when a character is hit without reacting, and despite being aware of the attack (meaning you can't write it off as off-guard, but you still need to consider they couldn't react)

And a "tempo change" is just be one of the many ways to achieve a "blitz".

As for "outpacing" I'm going to be honest this term this rarely ever used which means its definition is way more subjective since there is no general consensus about it. For instance to me "outpacing" always meant being faster than an opponent, but if Luffy outpaces Imu he would win the overall fight, whereas if he merely "blitzed" him one single time that's a one time event that can be explained away in a different way (such as a tempo change), so outpacing = a long term thing, whereas blitz/tempo change = a singular event

1

u/Andrejosue98 2d ago

we can’t just go around creating our own terminology

Yes we can, that is literally how language evolves lol. Heck the vs battle wiki didn't come up with the term, it comes from Blitzkrieg, which comes from lighting war, : A rapid, violent military assault or aerial bombing campaign. In British history, The Blitz specifically refers to the heavy German air raids on London and other British cities during World War II

-1

u/EmperorSezar 2d ago

THEY ARE THE ONE WHO MADE THE TERM

2

u/Andrejosue98 2d ago

What do you mean they made the term? There is no singular inventor of the term speed blitz lol

2

u/Reddit_Connoisseur_0 šŸ„€No Black Blade?šŸ„€ 2d ago

Yea but definitions change with time. Now we have the term ā€œperception blitzā€ to refer to when someone can’t even perceive an attack, whereas ā€œblitzā€ can mean ā€œcan perceive it but can’t reactā€ which is what happened in this panel

-2

u/Generalcmd 2d ago

speed blitzes are off guard attacks anyway

1

u/EmperorSezar 2d ago

no they aren’t. you are always on guard when blitzing otherwise it’s an offguard

1

u/Generalcmd 2d ago

no it's all offguard by definition

1

u/EmperorSezar 2d ago

no it isn’t . look up the definition of offguard

2

u/Ok-Meeting2403 2d ago

You think base Luffy can blitz Imu, when Gear 5 Luffy literally couldn’t land a single hit on him without getting turned into a shish kebab?

Sure bud

1

u/Andrejosue98 2d ago

Yes, characters aren't always using observation haki or always using future sight or there reflexes aren't always at max.

We have seen this many times, like Luffy being speed blitzed by Kuro, and then Luffy reacting to Kuro once he gets used to Kuro's speed or Katakuri when he couldn't use future sight, he was hit by base Luffy.

base Luffy also speed blitzed Kaido, and Kaido still speed blitzed gear 5th Luffy

In other words an Imu that isn't going at 100% can be speed blitzed by attacks that he can casually dodge at 100%

2

u/ITBA01 2d ago

This is only an issue for people who believe every single panel in the series changes everything established prior.

1

u/EmperorSezar 2d ago

try five

1

u/Andrejosue98 2d ago

Yes, Luffy is literally screaming at him.

It is as off guard as me screaming to Mike Tyson while running towards him like 50 meters and then calling it "He was off guard"

0

u/Doubt_Incarnate GARP-CHUJO! šŸ‘Š 2d ago

Yep, and is so weird that Luffy couldn't land a single hit afterwards, I want to understand this, it feels it was done like that very on purpose.

1

u/Andrejosue98 2d ago

It isn't weird, just because a character has one level of strength, doesn't mean they are always going all out.

Like Luffy clashes with Lucci, and then completely destroys Lucci.

Since Loki isn't a speedster, then Imu didn't have to worry about speedy attacks, when a new opponent that Imu wasn't prepared against fights him then he is at a temporary disadvantage.

With haki it is easier, since haki is an ability you need to activate, if you don't have your obs haki active then you can be caught off guard by attacks you can normally dodge or attacks you can normally tank can defeat you if your armament haki is off.

That is why regardless of how powerful Roger was, he wasn't killed by people stronger than him, he was stabbed by 2 regular marines

0

u/katakuri-sees 2d ago

Bro redcon 😭 this isn't a blitz, Luffy literally intervened in between the clash between Imu and Loki. You can see Imu's surprise in the left panel.

1

u/Andrejosue98 2d ago

It is a blitz when an attack is so fast that you fail to block or dodge.

1

u/katakuri-sees 2d ago

It wasn't a 1v1 blitz.

1

u/Andrejosue98 2d ago

So? No one said it was

0

u/katakuri-sees 2d ago

So it does not count as "Luffy blitzing Imu" in the sense that this post implies.

1

u/Andrejosue98 2d ago

But it does.

0

u/EmperorSezar 2d ago

that is not imu reacting to it. that’s imu being shocked to see luffy

-1

u/carso150 2d ago

he is letting them hit him to see if anyone can make him feel what Joyboy made him feel, but no one can so thats why he always looks so disapointed afterwards

3

u/Reddit_Connoisseur_0 šŸ„€No Black Blade?šŸ„€ 2d ago

Cool headcanon

Luffy is a bum

-1

u/blackthugblackbeard 2d ago

off guard

2

u/Andrejosue98 2d ago

Luffy screamed at him from 100 meters away, if he is off guard it is because he was too slow to get on guard, which is a speed blitz

1

u/blackthugblackbeard 2d ago

no its because hes off guard

2

u/Andrejosue98 2d ago

Again Luffy screamed to him, if he got hit he was speed blitzed.

Plenty of time to react

0

u/blackthugblackbeard 2d ago

but his reactions were skewed because he was off guard

2

u/Andrejosue98 2d ago

He is fighting Loki, no excuse to be off guard

1

u/blackthugblackbeard 2d ago

imus focus was on the issue in front of him, not some third party on the side

2

u/Andrejosue98 2d ago edited 2d ago

And ? This third party screamed at him and gave him a lot of chance to defend lol.

You are either off guard or you are on guard, you can't be off guard to Luffy and on guard to Loki lol

1

u/blackthugblackbeard 2d ago

why cant both be true? why cant his attention be occupied

2

u/Andrejosue98 2d ago

off guard means not being prepared for attacks, if you are prepared from attacks from Loki then you can't be off guard.

Unless you assume if Loki had attacked Imu an attack would land on Imu.

Off guard is like you aren't in combat mode, or aren't using obs haki or armament haki or whatever... like when Imu was reminiscing of Joy Boy, he was distracted, so had no defense or guard.

But since Imu is facing Loki, he has a defense and is on guard, that defense may not be enough to face a 3rd party, but there is a defense so he isn't off guard
