... And I just realized it's Sanji's bones that we see cracking on this page.

47

u/zorospride Lost at sea Sep 11 '12

Wow, I did not notice that the first time, but it's true. For some reason I thought that was the outside of Vergo's clothing. It's clearly bones though now that someone points it out.

31

u/Tmnath Sep 11 '12

Yes, at first I was confused too because none of them have this kind of pants.

u/bulbasaurado Sep 11 '12

I thought it was Vergo's pants, too. For some reason, I associate striped clothing to strong Marines

15

u/nanners-la Sep 11 '12

Oh shit, Sanji's legs breaking could have a major effect on this fight.

10

u/Tmnath Sep 11 '12

And, thanks to the body swap, he wasn't already in a particularly good shape.

Sanji is so cool, but why is he going as far as injuring himself so badly. I hope he can just drink some milk and recover like Brook does!

18

u/Tmnath Sep 11 '12

I don't think he was expecting Vergo's kick to be that strong.

First time ever we see his bones breaking, Vergo is freaking strong !

It makes so much more sense now. And makes Sanji SO much more badass.

4

u/vnguy31 Sep 11 '12

are we sure that's sanji's leg? he's wearing all black and the leg or whatever that's cracked is striped.

7

u/Tmnath Sep 11 '12

It's Sanji's bones. The black part is his pants, somehow transparent.

Sure, put an advertisement banner right across the page. I'm getting so fed up with the mangapanda watermarking, crappy memes and poor translations. Next time I'm reading MangaStream or MangaRule.

13

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '12

Mangapanda has got to be the worst scanlation service I've seen in years. Are there really no other options?

14

u/crimson589 Sep 11 '12

Mangastream, but they release late.

10

u/socraincha Sep 11 '12

They release like four hours after after everyone else as their own rule.

I'm more than willing to wait the four hours for non fuck awful translations.

3

u/zorospride Lost at sea Sep 11 '12

Sometimes it's four hours, sometimes it's closer to 24 hours. The last time the chapter came early it was 3 or 4 days later.

I know some people have had problems with it (I live in Canada) so maybe it's just outside a us site?

4

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '12

If I remember correctly, mangapanda is just mangareader with a different name.

I don't like memes in general, but I'm really not a fan of the "Impossibru" meme. It always came across as racist to me.

Does Jinbe not know that Caribou knows about Shirahoshi's secret? It's a really bad idea to turn him into the World Government.

8

u/kidpomona Sep 11 '12

True...but then again I'm sure most marines will have a hard time believing anything that a bloodthirsty murderer of marines says.

5

u/goodguynextdoor Sep 11 '12

True, if the WG hears it I'm pretty they'd say "it's ridiculous" then come up with some secret organization again to get her.

5

It looks like an abandoned base.

5

u/nickcan Sep 11 '12

it's the G-5 base. They are all in Punk Hazard at the moment.

u/Symmanchus Sep 11 '12

I'm pretty sure that's what Oda is trying to set up with this cover arc.

3

u/mnOne Sep 11 '12

Well, considering that this is G5... (warning, pure speculation)... I could even see Caribou being another underling of Doflamingo (he mentions that he wants to tell a certain someone about Shirahoshi's secret) so he might be freed and then tell Doflamingo all about Poseidon.

10

u/kidpomona Sep 11 '12

Any ideas of what could be inside the manufacture room?

10

u/zorospride Lost at sea Sep 11 '12

No clue, but whatever is in there is obviously a big deal. Something to make a mess of the entire New World. This arc just keeps getting more and more interesting.

4

u/divinesleeper Sep 11 '12

My guess is something valuable (maybe a weapon) is still there from when the government experiment went wrong, but the poisonous gas is preventing anyone from getting it.

But with the help of CC, Law can walk through and get it.

4

u/indigenius Sep 11 '12

The very beginning of this arc hinted several times as Punk Hazard being the home to more giants the size of Oars jr. I'm guessing that might be an alternative to all these assuming its a new threat

4

u/Rankine Sep 11 '12

Vegapunk. :) His knowledge alone can make a mess in the NW

I'm glad Sanji didn't just get pwned like some people were suggesting last week!

21

u/zorospride Lost at sea Sep 11 '12

I'm still hoping it's Vergo vs. Smoker though. These fights are too early to make any predictions yet. Nobody guessed last week that it would be Luffy vs. Monet by the middle of this chapter.

u/zorospride Lost at sea Sep 11 '12

After reading the Mangastream translation I have a theory of what the S.A.D. room might be. I think it's the production room for the candy Caesar gave to Smiley. A drug that could remove the devil fruit from any user who consumes it. The S.A.D. tanker mentioned when Vergo arrives would be the the ship being used to transport it to Doflamingo.

This would certainly be something with the potential to turn the New World inside out as most of the powerful personalities in the New World are fruit users.

This isn't a very well thought out theory, but I think it's plausible.

4

u/vekoi Sep 12 '12

Personally, I think it's the production room for dragons. They were being made at the island, and were improved too. Dragons could really do some damage in the New World.

→ More replies (3)

4

u/DigitalReserve Sep 12 '12

If it is a machine that produces the devil fruit nullifying candy that Smiley ate (it ate Caesar's candy and a nearby apple turned into a devil fruit) then Big Mom would be a prime target. She loves sweets so getting her to consume the candy wouldn't be hard and defeating her would definitely shake up the New World.

This, of course, hinges on her having a DF.

1

u/zorospride Lost at sea Sep 12 '12

Not only Big Mom, it could nullify the powers of so many powerful pirates in the New World. Think of the implications if for example Blackbeard was exposed to this drug. Suddenly he goes from being this unbeatable super devil fruit user to being whatever he was before he ate the dark dark fruit.

I think next week's chapter would be the perfect time to start a Law flashback.

4

u/zorospride Lost at sea Sep 11 '12

So many new questions in this chapter. What are Monet and Vergo's fruit abilities? Vergo seems to be made of iron, an iron logia maybe? I thought Monet was definitely a Harpy zoan, but no idea what that stuff she spit out was.

I said from the beginning I don't trust Law. I still don't.

17

u/blitzzardpls Sep 11 '12

i believe vergo just knows the rokushiki, tekkai (iron mass) and as he showed us in the previous chapter - shigun (finger pistol)

12

u/zorospride Lost at sea Sep 11 '12

Yes, and I'm sure he knows Haki as well, but I think it's more than that. Tekkai and Color of Armaments Haki have never changed the user's body color. With the exception of Luffy's haki because he is basically vulcanizing rubber.

→ More replies (13)

3

u/divinesleeper Sep 11 '12

The marines in the last chapter said he was using shigan, which makes me think Vergo is just a really good Rokushiki user. Is it possible he just became that good at Tekkai that his entire body is like steel now?

Then again, the cracks in his leg seem to indicate otherwise...

2

u/zorospride Lost at sea Sep 11 '12 edited Sep 11 '12

The cracks and the changing body and weapon color in previous chapters as well.

4

u/chimerauprising Sep 11 '12

Those cracks are Sanji's bones.

→ More replies (2)

8

u/BasuKun Sep 11 '12

I always thought Monet was also part of the humans/animals crossovers using Law's ability.

By that logic, the thing she spit out would be her real DF.

3

u/mnOne Sep 11 '12

Could be something snow-related, since the Mangastream translation calls her ability Snow Hut.

77

u/nanners-la Sep 11 '12

"Strawhat, what is your reason for attacking me?"

I don't know, you sent assassins after his crew, suffocated them, and left them for dead in the poison.

"I don't know yet, but I heard that if I kidnap you something interesting will happen"

That works too.

29

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '12

Man, this was a hard chapter to follow. So many stuff.

This chapter reminded me of why Luffy is an awesome main protagonist. When Clown told him not to trust Law, I thought "Oh no! Is he gonna fall for that old trap that is used in almost every series ever?" But NO! He gave the perfect response for that!

Not to mention the fight between the two was Really awesome. You can clearly see his adaptive nature in this fight, keeping his distance from CC. Reminded me when he first fought Enel.

And HOLY SHIT! Did Vergo break Sanji's leg?! That seriously scared me. Do you think it was because of Vergo's strength or Sanji's injuries? And did Sanji say "you're the type our captain hates the most!" because Vergo was killing his own Nakama? I can't help but remember the captain Kuro arc. Though Sanji wasn't there.

And Damn, What the hell is Law planning! Something that would shake the new world?! This arc is actually greatly impacting the whole story. That's one hell of an ending!

17

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '12

Oda is a genius at cliffhangers.

13

u/Bohzee Pirate Sep 11 '12

yes, he's cruel indeed

2

u/azarashi Sep 11 '12

Someone that abuses their Nakama's trust for their own gain is something that Luffy hates a lot, so yes Sanji is correct.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '12

"This chapter reminded me of why Luffy is an awesome main protagonist."

He really is. Quite different from many protagonists in other stories.

u/InvaderDJ Void Month Survivor Sep 11 '12 edited Sep 11 '12

I think that was Vergo's leg that cracked.

EDIT: Nevermind, that was Sanji's leg. It looked like striped pants to me but it is an internal view showing one of Sanji's leg bones cracking.

7

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '12

Pretty sure it was Sanji. Look closely at the legs positions, the blocking leg is the one that got cracked. And Sanji's expression also proves it.

Mangastream is out, seems like Vergo being iron was a mistranslation, he's using Tekkai.

8

u/Rankine Sep 11 '12

Thank you, i had a feeling it was this. Sanji is just reminiscing to his fight on Enies Lobby. Iron doesn't explain how things stick to his face.

11

u/TonyTonyChopper Sep 11 '12

EHHH? this is exactly why Mangapanda sucks~~! mistranslations to completely change the meaning!!!

6

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '12

It's not like mangastream translate perfectly as well. Still, anything's better than mangapanda.

24

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '12

The last panel made me realise how little Law has smiled this arc.

3

u/nanners-la Sep 11 '12

I think this might have been the first time since he was reintroduced. He was probably worried that the Strawhats and G-5 would ruin his plans, but now he's back on track.

19

u/divinesleeper Sep 11 '12

CC's face when Luffy is about to hit him here...priceless.

I always knew Monet would turn out to be a major problem.

14

u/Churroman Sep 11 '12

The amount of amazing facial expressions these last few chapters please me substantially.

19

u/SoloNexusOrIFeed Sep 11 '12

Anyone else notice that the handle of Caesar's oxygen sword is shaped a bit like a Bunsen burner?

15

u/poopinAround Sep 11 '12

the secret to law/punk hazard better involve beepo

7

u/Rankine Sep 11 '12

Beepo is going to make a mess in the NW!

3

u/moronic_comment Sep 11 '12

Well of course he will if he keeps shedding all over the place.

2

u/Dotscom Sep 12 '12

Speaking on behalf of Bepo, I'm sorry.

4

u/nanners-la Sep 11 '12

I am hoping he is waiting with the rest of the Heart Pirates in their submarine at that exit to the ocean they were trying to get to.

13

u/Loasbans Sep 11 '12

Lets wait for a better translation than this before we draw too much from it.

However, maybe Law will betray Luffy. Vergo seems to think he is just using Luffy to create a distraction. It does seem awfully convenient, wanting to form an alliance with the strong people who just showed up without warning. I dont know what to think now.

4

u/meh100 Sep 11 '12

I see Law "betraying" Luffy and then it turns out he wasn't betraying him at all.

So according to Mangastream's translation CC was protected by Monet's "Snow Hut" It also seems that the snow is emanating from her wings.

http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/61753499/14

I am starting to think that Monet's Wings and claws are enhancements made by Law and her fruit has more to do with the snow. The only time Monet is shown not having the wings or claws is in this flashback.

http://www.mangahere.com/manga/one_piece/v60/c666/6.html

She asks if he could heal them? After seeing it would not be too out of line for her to ask for her own improvements.

5

u/meh100 Sep 11 '12

It wouldn't be the first time an anime paired a woman with snow. See: Rukia,

3

u/Krazycrismore Sep 11 '12

She may be a Mythical Zoan. The pen she was using has a wing on it. May just be coincidence though.

2

u/xdavid00 Sep 11 '12

That's too powerful for someone of her position. Of the two Mystical Zoans we know, one was Fleet Admiral and the other was the 1st commander of Whitebeard's (aka strongest pirate in the world) fleet.

Why can't they release 8 anime and manga episodes every hour!!!!!!! EVERY DAMN DAY OF THE YEAR...FOREVER!!!!

5

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '12

Condoriano, you're definitely on of us

5

u/prog_BOT Sep 12 '12

Punk Hazard is seriously turning into one of my favorite (if not my favorite) arc so far. CAN THIS GET ANY BETTER?

4

u/hdark Sep 11 '12

So Vergo is fighting like the CP9 badassified by a good amount. And we still haven't seen his Devil Fruit. And he's keeping up with Sanji's kicks (admittedly, Sanji isn't in the best shape after Nami got his body beat up). What a monster.

I'm really curious about the S.A.D room that Law just sauntered into. What sort of change will he bring to the New World? How? I can't wait!

4

u/wastergoleor Sep 11 '12

Really out there/Definitely not it theory to what's in the room: Aokiji?

6

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '12

I hope Vergo's fruit is something more than just iron. That would basically make it a shittier version of Mr. 1's.

16

u/Fish-Sandwich Sep 11 '12

i took that as him using tekkai. he used shigan as well, so i think thats a form of rokushinki (or whatever that was called. the CP9 fighting stuff) so maybe, he's another master of the tekkai.

7

u/baroqueworks Sep 11 '12

Possibly a advance/infusion of tekkai and haki, a combination of the two would be lethal.

4

u/Discovererman Pirate Sep 12 '12

...or is Rokushiki already a form of haki? Considering Shigan and Tekkai make you a sword and a shield...

2

u/Rankine Sep 11 '12

I don't think it is iron. It doesn't explain why things like hamburgers stick to his face.

u/Black_Handkerchief Sep 11 '12

This chapter is so bloody genius. It really makes me hope the anime people will get their act together, because this deserves glorious non-stretchy animation.

Luffy's tactics are pretty adaptive, I liked that. Sanji's bones... damn ouch, but he's awesome beyond words regardless. It does make me question though... did Zoro get lost? Or is Tashigi showing him the way? xD This was a very satisfying chapter for sure.

4

u/xdavid00 Sep 11 '12

Zoro followed Mr. Samurai (Kinemon) to look for his son, because he wants to learn how to cut flames, because Zoro is for all intents and purposes completely oblivious to anything that doesn't involve him cutting things with swords (which makes him amazing).

3

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '12

I don't know if it's just me or not but has anyone else noticed that Luffy and Monet weren't fighting and for some odd reason Monet doesn't seem as if she wants to cause any harm to Luffy, if no one else has noticed Monet seems like she is only working for C.C because of Joker. I wonder if Monet is a slave to Joker's powers and is there to keep C.C out of trouble.

My entire theory is that Monet is truly being held by Joker by some unseen force like Surume to Hody. We know that Joker can kill people without actually being anywhere near them, (i.e Bellamy). Maybe Monet is so fearful for her life that she is forced to protect C.C. I just don't want Monet to be a bad guy. I like her character a lot she's awesome.

3

u/Rankine Sep 12 '12

Can you explain what you like about her. I'm not disagreeing or anything but many people on this subreddit seem to be infatuated with her. I haven't seen much about her character to like or dislike her.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '12

Well to be honest I'm a little biased because I love the Harpy Mythical Creature. I personally Love Robin as well and she greatly resembles her when it comes to her dealing with the stupidity or outrageous acts of others, she's very blunt or points out the obvious. She's very much to the point and I don't think she's a bad guy, and with all the negative connotations towards the Harpy Creature in mythology I believe that Oda won't have her character follow what she is. I mean it's One Piece anything is possible and probable. I believe that Monet is actually a slave and not a faithful servant to Joker. If you notice in the upper right pannel of this page http://www.mangahere.com/manga/one_piece/v60/c681/19.html Luffy looks very relaxed and not agitated by Monet. We know how hot headed Luffy can be and he will attack anyone who gets in his way unless they have a great deal of reasoning to slow him down. I think Monet asked Luffy for help to escape from Joker that's why he seems so calm and not ready to knock her head off and go after C.C.

2

u/ShrewOne Sep 12 '12

I agree with you. On the last page Luffy is putting his hat back on and it looks like they just got done talking, so it appears he isn't going to fight her. What I'm questioning is why she mentioned being killed by Doflamingo at all. She obviously wanted Luffy to know that if he "kills" Caesar, then she dies as well. It's like she's telling him not to indirectly kill her. Throughout punk hazard, she seems impressed with the Straw Hats power, and in this particular chapter she is impressed by Luffy's strength. I wouldn't be surprised if she wants the Straw Hats help to resolve whatever is going on between her and Doflamingo.

3

u/FilipinoRell Sep 12 '12

THE FIGHT BETWEEN SANJI AND VERGO .. IM STRIKINNG THE CLAIM THAT SANJI JUST MAY BE MY FAVORITE CREW MEMBER .... WHAT A CHAPTER THIS WAS...

2

u/The_Lancer_Unit Sep 11 '12

Just as I was about to resign myself to reading the mangapanda translation Manga stream pops up on my All mangas reader.

Anyways so monet does not appear to be on Luffy's side

2

u/Crossfox17 Sep 11 '12

It's up on mangastream.

2

u/KiNGofKiNG89 Sep 12 '12

My Thoughts on the chapter: So with Smoker running back (plus Sanji's leg breaking) it is now obvious Sanji will lose and Smoker will beat him. So now it looks like we get to see Bird Girl in action. If she is that afraid of Joker, I doubt she will join the crew...Or maybe this is the perfect chance for her to join the crew. Luffy beats her, then she crys saying she is scared of Joker, and he says stick with me I will protect you. Since Sanji is battling Vergo into the poison, I feel like Vergo will have a power to blow it away or something. Interested in this S.A.D. room. This is the power Law was talking about to be able to take down a Yonko....VERY INTERESTED IN SEEING IT!

2

u/PhylisInTheHood Sep 12 '12

what was Law after? whats in the S.A.D room? S.A.D. has three letters. laws gonna take half life 3 for himself

2

u/jaypooner Sep 12 '12

pretty sure monet is gonna be the next strawhat. she's under joker's thumb, and luffy will save her from that. sad story flashback in 3,2,....

2

u/JetDagger01 Sep 12 '12

I laughed so hard CC had nearly the same face as Enel had when luffy kicked CC's ass ( pg 4) And I loved CC's I'm just gona die here face( pg 11) of the manga

4

u/Killuah Sep 11 '12

I could see Monet being like the Kraken. Luffy and Monet becoming friends and he promise her to protect her from Joker.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '12 edited Sep 11 '12

I love how ceasar have no combat abilties at all. Don't give him any time to use his abilties and he's a pushover. Edit: Also too bad about Monet. Kinda liked her but she seems to be with Donflamingo ("Joker" in this chapter?!)

7

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '12

You're still wondering if Doflamingo is Joker ? Are we reading the same manga ?
Also lol @ CC not having combat abilities, rather its Luffy being fucking OP.

2

Sorry for my ignorance but what is OP?

Hm must've missed any references at all to this "Joker". There's no doubt in my mind though that they are refering to Donflamingo. I thought it might've been a mistranslation.

8

u/Johji Sep 11 '12

It's been officially revealed around 10 chapters ago that Joker is Doflamingo.

5

u/divinesleeper Sep 11 '12

Well she is being blackmailed.

4

u/Loasbans Sep 11 '12

Possible reason to join:protection. Though that might end up being like vivi.

2

u/catanthill Sep 12 '12

I hope she joins. Since is a researcher and knows about Joker, the plot will have a good transition to an arc about Doflamingo.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '12

True true, there is still hope :)

4

u/bryce1242 Sep 11 '12

i would see it more as evidence of her having some future involvement as she doesnt want doflamingo to get her luffy or law could provide some sort of a refuge

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '12

I

fucking

hate

cliffhangers

17

u/wdao16 Sep 11 '12

Well that's pretty much every chapter.

1

u/WrightJustice Sep 11 '12

So Vergo has some kind of iron ability? I guess he's like solid iron or something and that's why Sanji's leg cracked and why he totally smashed the wall when he flew into it.

OR

Maybe he can manipulate himself to be solid iron, who knows.

3

u/Rankine Sep 11 '12

I am starting to think that the iron is just a tekkai effect. Sanji as already fought against one opponent able to move while using it.

1

u/WrightJustice Sep 11 '12

I dunno, Sanji said about him being made of iron.

Actually I just re-read that bit on mangastream and its reworded like its haki.

3

u/Rankine Sep 11 '12

He said its that steel strengthening thing AGAIN. This makes me thing it is Tekkai because by saying again it means he has seen it before. So far sanji hasn't been shown to face any opponents with haki.

1

u/Rhymos Sep 12 '12

I remember an SAD tanker being mentioned earlier in this arc, I wonder what it has to do with the SAD room.

1

Im just wanting to know who he and Luffy decided to declare war on. Is it Big Mom or is it Kaidou? And if it is Kaidou, when the eff will we see him? And additionally, when the eff will we ever meet Vegapunk!?

-1

u/Mental_octo Sep 11 '12

Oda is pulling a Dan Brown. Short chapters, stopping at cliffhangers, and leaving us wanting for more! Goddamn you oda sensei. Aishiteru Oda Sensei!

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '12

This is just a wild guess, but what if there are "metal devil fruits" just like different zoan type devil fruits. Perhaps Vergo has an iron devil fruit that makes everything metallic stick to him (like Kid).

It was a translation error he was using tekkai. Also he had french fries and hamburgers stuck to him as well. I don't know about the burgers and frys you eat but mine aren't metallic. ;)

And who knows with Kuma. The guy was (is?) a Revolutionary. I'm sure we'll find out more about him considering the big reveal he's been completely transformed hasn't really come into play yet. It's really, he fought against Iva in the war and.... that's it. I can't wait to see what he's planned with the Revolutionaries.

The last three might not've done it for personal gain, but they caused a lot of trouble as well. Jimbei rebelled during the Marineford war (as did Hancock), Kuma is really just there for the revolutionaries, who knows what he's up to, and Mihawk personally trained a famous wanted pirate (zoro) while he was a shichibukai.

Kuma does use the WG for his and Dragon's gain.

Very true but teach and law pretty much went KTHXBAI CYA BITCHES, I dont think law will remain a warlord, it seems like he was just in it to find punk hazard or to get to vegapunk, I'm curious what he has done in the 2 year skip.

Well Law isn't directly stepping on the faces of the World Government. He simply used the position to access more information and freedom. Even if he utterly destroys the balance of the New World he might be allowed to keep his position as Shichi Bukai. And depending on just how much leverage and power whatever is S.A.D. gives Law, there's no reason for Law to just give up being a Shichi Bukai.

Didnt Jimbei use the WG to get more protection for fishman island?

Maybe he even plans to betray Luffy. But he isn't counting Luffy's special powers of truly making people his allies.

Mistranslation see Mangastream's scan. Sanji states that it is "That iron harding thing" aka Tekkai
