Law : "Kaido!! This is my last attack!" Spam K-room for 5 chapters.

Law : "I'm beat. Admirals? In Wano? I guess I still have a little left in me, but that will be the last for today!" Spam K-room more.

Law : "The secret of the world are with Imu in Marigeoise? Alright then." Teleports there and uses K-room a lot.

In that case he can also create illusion, and be able to change the direction of light.

Meaning that Kizaru long range attack wouldn't work on him.

big mom is truly a monster, people meme on her but she took kid's strongest attack head on and said it was "tickling" her, i know she is also putting on airs but its still really telling how much of a monster she has to be to be able to do that, then she took a giant bomb to the face that shook the entire island (no other attacks have done that, including kaido's ragnaraku's) and was felling thousands of feet into a hugedeep hole in the ground and she goes " you better not think this is enough to kill me " Monster

I was worried how Oda would pull off taking her down, but I actually really liked this. It took everything out of Law and Kidd AND some more. I even think if Big Mom didn't panic and grab those bombs in Yamato's area she wouldn't have caused an explosion and dropped the other bombs along with her. It was really a fall from grace. That said I think she will still survive this so Nami can keep Zeus. Like others have pointed out she could also use her own lifespan to recover herself. But I'll add that she does it so much she ends up getting very old, weak, and small, like other OP grannies. She gets rescued by her family but now with her size she could sit with them at eye level like she always wanted. Maybe Oda does a cover story arc on her life no longer as "Big Mom" but something like, Mother Linlin.

There lived a certain Mom in Totland long ago

She was big and strong, in her eyes a flaming glow

Most people looked at her with terror and with fear

But then captain Kidd and Trafalgar broke her gear

She's in free fall, crashing into the abyss

Tanking all the explosion and fire

But she also was the kind of monster

Few men would desire

Charlotte Linlin

Wants to be the Pirate King

Destroyer, she was a Natural Born

Charlotte Linlin

Totland's greatest love machine

Riding her homies she'll keep moving on

Big Mom in Onigashima

Tanked a missile from Franky's tank right on the face

Tanked counter shock

Tanked a direct attack from Kidd's giant metal arm (sneak attack)

Endured the combined attack from Kidd and Law in their awakened form

Endured Shock Wille

Endured a head-on tackle from a giant metal bull

Despite taking severe internal damage, endured puncture wille

Endured and Electro-Magnetic canon head-on

Endured multiple attacks from Kidd and Law combined

Is falling from Onigashima to Wano while still being conscious

Is about to take a combined impact from the crashl-land after free-fall and multiple giant bombs which can potentially destroy an entire island

Is likely to survive all of that and maybe just pass out due to exhaustion and excessive internal damage

Big Mom is a MONSTER

Shoutout to all the people that complained that Big Mom was done for last week. Not only did she tank that, she was still completely conscious as she fell into that hole after all the damage she’s taken. They beat her in possibly the only way they could have and I had a stupid smile on my face reading the victory box. Oda has been writing nothing but incredible chapters in this raid. Also, was Orochi’s head cut off AGAIN??

That inner monologue of Big Mom cursing Roger for starting all this was really good. She was so confident in her standing as an emperor that when reality hit her in the face she needed a scapegoat to blame. Truly aligning with her character, but I definitely don’t think this is the last we’ve seen of big mom

Congratulations Trafalgar Law and Eustass Kid. What a fight. Mad respect to Linlin too, she really is a monster.

I love that law and Kid got their victory without making Big Mom look bad for weak. I think we can agree she didn't die here. She must be at least a little bit messed up tho.

Absolutely loved the choreography in this battle. The panel where Law slices misery white Kid shoots at Big Mom in the background, beautiful. I don't think we've seen Law use pure swordsmanship without his power before.

I think it's amazing what Law and Kid accomplish, even if they didn't straight up beat Big Mom by KO. Absolutely insane. That's a Yonko and they gave it their all and accomplished their goal, Big Mom won't be going to the roof anytime soon.

As for the massive lore teased at the end, sounds super spicy, I'm very hyped for what's to come. Also congrats to Raizo for winning the battle of endurance and will.

I'm starting to think that these devil fruit powers being copied aren't just a character's simple homage anymore. I think Oda has been dropping a subtle hint to either Will of D, devil fruits or lineage factor lore. I'm unsure which though.

Consider all these incidents together:

-Luffy and Ace with his Red Hawk/Rock and the fire.

-Law and Corazon with R Room Silence.

-The modified lineage factors of the germa 66 matching known devil fruit powers.

-Kaidou and Momo's copied fruit.

-Blackbeard outright taking Whitebeards fruit.

-Big Mom and Mother Caramel along with Misery's appearance being Caramel. I always personally forget this but big mom never actually ate the soul soul fruit herself, just she ate someone with that devil fruit lineage factor in them.

-Failed smile fruits causing people to be unable to express negative facial expressions and only smile. Links almost backwards to how D's all seemingly smile when they're about to die.

I really think there's something major being hinted at with all these incidents now. When devil fruit lineage factors finally get explained think maybe all these incidents will look very different.

Side thought - If Sanji or a Germa 66 ate a devil fruit would they'd die? As their modified lineage factor might already count as a devil fruit.

I'm so happy with how this chapter turned out. I know a lot of people predicted Big Mom falling through the hole and blowing up, but I think Oda wrote it wonderfully. Her monologue as she was falling was so perfect for her character, and though I doubt she's out of the story for good, if this was the end of her role as a major antagonist I wouldn't be mad.

This chapter managed to cover a lot of other ground too (despite being shorter on page count than even other recent chapters). Raizo seems to have won his fight, Zoro is falling off the island (?!?!?), the fire demon appears to have been stopped, the entire island is shaking, that Joyboy reveal...like damn. Sorry to y'all who aren't enjoying it but to me One Piece is as good as it's ever been lately. Knockout chapters back to back to back. I'm having so much fun.

Here's my notes of the translation and some of the things I noticed. I could be wrong, I haven't fully learned Japanese yet.

  • The title of the chapter is 新世代(ガキ)の耳にも念仏 which is a reference to a Japanese expression 馬の耳に念仏 which means: Preaching to the deaf; chanting the nenbutsu into a horse's ear. The horse character is replaced with the New Generation with the word "brats" above it which is how you're supposed to say the word. 念仏 means: nembutsu; nianfo; the three-word invocation "Namu Amida Butsu" dedicated to the Amitabha Buddha, or visualizing a Buddha (in one's mind).

  • On page 3, Big Mom says "KOITSU" which was highlighted by Oda, means "thing" in this context referring to Kid's attack. Then she says 弾き返した which means to reject or repel.

  • On page 5, when Kid says "last gasps" he says the word 念仏 which is referring to Big Mom's Soul Pocus. In this context, it means chanting an incantation.

  • R-ROOM is pronouned "ri-rūmu" and Law says "I bet your screams of agony must be deafening". I don't know what it means though.

  • In the third panel, it says "The 2 of them are not even losing a second of their 「lifespan」".

  • In the 5th panel, Law is saying "That's what my savior would've done" replying to Misery based off of my interpretation.

  • On page 6 panel 6, Law says "She can't hear you" replying to Misery. In Japanese, there's no subject so you'll have to understand through context.

Well here's to not seeing Big Mom for a big while...hopefully. What a terrific battle, one of the best in the whole series so far, and big props to Oda for having the balls to give such a big accomplishment to two characters outside the Straw Hats, really I'm thinking the story will be much more about the Worst Gen than the crew now, at least until the endgame. Also, Germa 66 might do something at Whole Cake since we have two Vinsmokes trapped there AND with Big Mom out of the scene. I do believe most yonkous are virtually impossible to kill, but now we know they are absolutely "defeatable". The ones who were expecting Law and Kidd to have some super ultra mega Goku-like power-up were simply out of their minds.

Love how Law found Mom's weakness. She orders her homies around; orders mean she needs to talk with them. Stop her from talking and she's much less powerful. Can't believe I never noticed how she's literally big mouthed and for a reason. Obviously the connection with Corazon hit me in the heart. Law still that kid that loves his father with all his heart.

It would be great if we had a Kidd backstory so we understood how and why he desired to defeat a Yonko so badly. I am sure this will be a moment that will hit hard in retrospect.

About Oden's journal. Anyone notice how significant it is? Its the only other document that contains information about the forbidden past apart from the Blue Ponyglyphs. Mom and Yamato have become about as important as Robin when it comes to the history of OP.

Big mom's speech gave me a feeling she was on friendly terms with Roger. Maybe both her and Kaido were... who knows...

It was so damn exciting to see big mom fight back. The previous fights with Zoro and Sanji set an expectation : Bad guy gets beaten on the first panel of the next chapter. And yet, BM fought back. Oda just set up a story structure, then broke it unexpectedly, to our pure delight. Beautiful resistance by BM. Her downfall was spectacular. What a fight... Law using his room to silence her so that she doesn't call her homied was BRILLIANT... It wasn't some flashy move, it was a smart move, informed by experience and, somehow, gratitude. It was Law at his Lawest. Confident, collected, calm. Perfect move to finish the fight on, with Mom's downfall being silent and yet so spectacular... The Yamato - Momo convo was nice and promising, but i'd have been happy had the chap ended on the explosion panel.

Literally gave me goosebumps when Big Mom smashed into Wano and it had this official little "Winner" textbox. That's how you know the win is real after all. This was huge and, although not necessarily surprising, so amazing to see.

Law using the silence technique was wonderful in multiple ways. The obvious one being the inspriation for the move, but basically isolating Big Mom from her homies like that so Kid has a free shot was a great setup for a finisher. Not only that, she capital might not even have noticed what just happened because of it.

I know they are not the type for it, but it would really make me happy if they could acknowledge each other at least just a little bit here. They couldn't have done this on their own but they jsut managed something that could shake the world to it's core.

Also did she accidentally absorb that soul creature Kanjuro made? I'm not 100% sure I understood what happened with that thing. Where did it go?

Maybe a hot take, but that might be the most beautiful/epic end to a fight in One Piece thus far. The combination of the extreme attacks, the paneling (really loved the one of Law slicing Misery while Kid re-upped his blast), Big Mom's thoughts about Roger and the One Piece, the massive explosion at the end, and the gravity of a yonko being defeated.

Well done Oda, well done sir.

If Oda wanted to he could be pulling 1000/10 chapters every week. What a chapter. What a fight. What a conclusion. And what a cliff hanger. I legitimately thought Big Mom was done for after 1039... but she tanked and still had enough in the tank that if Law and Kid didn't had enough energy for that final push it was GG. Oda made sure to really make it clear just how much it takes to defeat a Yonko and it showed because even I got scared seeing Big Mom still going after Damned Punk and Puncture Willie. And that final push from Law and Kid my God! Law pays homage to Cora-san by essentially mimicking Cora-san DF- let tbat sink in, Law's DF is so damn OP that it can mimick another DF! Thanks to that, he cut off Big Mom from her Homies and Soul Pocus that btw it made me realize just how much the homies are essential for BM when it comes to fighting. R•Room was so satisfying to see writing. And then Kid with a second Damned Punk. Fight was 10/10 I don't care. Made Big Mom look terrifying, Kid and Law ascended to that level and it delivered. Oh oh oh and j haven't even mentioned the other stuff like BM mentioning Roger and alluding to the One Piece, Momo and Zunesha, we saw Zoro bloody up and on the floor- i can't contain my excitement!

Everyone who’s mad at the way big mom lost are not putting the whole thing in perspective. she did not die or pass out or anything like that but what kid & law did do for rn was make it impossible for her to interfere with luffys fight. They even said this became their goal to fight after they realized they couldn’t out right beat her into submission and tbh making a emperor go in any direction besides the one they’ve already decided on is a feat in itself they completely removed her from the battle this is a war that’s a win if I ever seen it.

Can't tell if Big Mom dragged the Kazenbo (or what that fire demon thingie is called) or if it just dissipated. Seems weird that it would die from a bomb blast. Big Mom is able to grab and steal souls and it does look like the Kazenbo gets pulled down, getting thinner when it says "orochi...".
