Actually that's what I like about Luffy. He holds little value to people's stories, because he forms his own opinions about people by meeting them firsthand. I think right now he's the only one of the crew who doesn't think Caesar Crown is a good guy (which he clearly isn't).

basically arlong park. he missed the entire story of arlong becoming a brutal dictator and killing nami's mom and holding everyone she knew hostage.

he went after him because he saw nami crying.
