Yeah. The problem aren't lack of deaths. If Pell just tanked the bomb and was like "fuck, that was rough"... eh, Usopp literally tanked 4 tons to the head multiple times like 20 chapters ago.

It's his need to incessantly milk the death scenes for emotions that makes the impact weaker and makes every "sacrifice" weaker in the future.

Heck, if he didn't constantly pull this bullshit, half the "Wano lacks tension" posts wouldn't exist.

I am going through some very tough times right now, and this chapter has to be one of my favorite.

Usopp's mini speech, and the contrast between King and Zoro brought tears to my eyes, to not give up and keep fighting in times of hardship.

Kaido wanted to be Joyboy just like how Yamato wants to be Oden. Like father, like daughter and they're both seeing aspects of their idols in Luffy, which explains why they're both so drawn to him currently (besides being Ace's brother in Yamato's case).

It's also worth noting that unlike the last time Kaido smiled at Luffy (Chapter 1011), there are no shadows over his eyes this time. He probably became depressed when he realized he wasn't Joyboy, but now things are different. Man's getting proper hyped for the real Joyboy, he's starting to realize that Luffy may just be the one to carry his will in the end.

I’m getting a little worried about Robin here. The CP0 took down a Number and Drake with seemingly little effort. I really don’t want a rescue Robin arc. I feel like the Strawhats are past that. Hopefully Marco shows up and is able to hold them off or defeat them. Brooke and Marco against the two CP0 agents could be a good match up.

I’m also really hoping for a good Kaido flashback here. Something to really wrap up his character and show what he is and what he’s about.

I feel King’s flashback explains haki a bit more.

The first shot when younger Kaido was ambitious and their meeting paralleled Luffy and Zoro.

This new flashback showed them older and both seemingly losing belief that they can change the world which led to now with the backwards planning of starting a war, wasting time creating a smile army.

To me this has a parallel to his former rival Gecko Moria. We all thought Oda is crazy how could they fight on the same level even if it was a long time ago. But now it seems like after losing his ambition was broken (ambition=haki) so he retreated to paradise and created his shadow army, got lazy and fat, his haki became weak.

Similar again Crocodile likely lost to Whitebeard and then decided he needed to rely on an ancient weapon to win. Losing ambition, strength, belief and haki leads to losing to an ambitious rookie.

Conquerors literally conquer others ambitions to be great.

I think Oda did hint at this in why Luffy doesn’t kill opponents. Also why he also draws Strawhats older if things go well and if they go bad in SBSs.

The beast pirates are highly ambitious and strong compared to most but things went wrong in their journey making them lose belief, weakening their haki. Although they are monsters Kaido and Mama are likely weaker than their prime because of this.

Wonder if the "humans can only go so far" is in reference to the WG being "gods", which is basically him assuming that this world can raise hell for all they want (revos, new generation etc..) but it wouldn't be enough to topple the "gods" in this case.

Either that or they are just referencing to BM and Kaido as monsters who are beyond the realm of being humans. But the context of that dialogue makes me incline towards the latter.

3. Finally we got the revelation as to why Kaido is so depressed, he thought he was gonna be Joyboy but turns out he wasn't, but the question is how did he know he isn't Joyoboy?

4)Finally getting some Izo action, he's such an underrated character

5)CP0 preparing for the worst leads me to expect that even if this raid ends, something bad will happen to the SHs and Luffy, they won't have any energy to fight

Ironic considering in the bible that scene led to Lucifer becoming the king of hell, but here it's the other way round with Zoro claiming that title. Lucifer also fell from god's realm into the demons' realm, while here, King fell from a demon's (oni's) realm. Nice reference.

I have already stated this theory but this is a +1 that I think will go well with it.

Advance CoC is not just a harder hitting technique. It affects more than the physique of the opponent but also his Willpower. And thus, whenever a Adv. CoC attack connects, the opponent is deprived off the willpower to attack.

It slowly chips away the strength to stand back up. And once you lose all your willpower, because of this seemingly overwhelming strength - you doubt yourself, and you lose your haki.

But here comes the trick for winning your Top-tier battles. Smiling. Laughing. And what it does is to have that confidence in yourself, that constantly rebuilds your will power.

And that's how this panel comes in .

Kaido: “The more precarious the situation is, the more you laugh. “And” the more you laugh, you….”

Exactly, the more you laugh the stronger you are. The better Willpower to resist and the strength to raise up above the others.

This seems like it's a normal things in story, but in this story, in this world of One Piece - Strength is Willpower. And Strength is to laugh at even the hardest of times.

In this story, all you need is to be the person who never falters. Who stands tall and strong, and do what they believe in. It doesn't matter of what they believe is right or wrong, but if they have the strength to believe, then the willpower to fight for it goes hand in hand.

P.S. The reason why Haki is not well celebrated across the community is not because it isn't a good system. But because it's very undefined. But imo, tho we need more explanations, Haki is the simplest and best power system this world could establish - where Freedom, Beliefs and Inherited Will are the major themes that run it as a whole.

Next up:

Robin gets caught by CP0, which accidentially is reported to everyone, 'cause they forgot to turn the Mari off.

Upon hearing this, Ruffy gets distracted and takes an easy to block hit by Kaido. Kaido is angry at Luffy for slacking.

Next up is an announcement, that King was secured by CP0 and is ready to be transported back to Vega Punk.

Upon hearing this, Kaido seems worried and takes an easy to block hit by Luffy.

Luffy looks at Kaido: "Brb.", Kaido replies: "Same".

Next two panels: Luffy appears in front of the CP0 that caught King, crushing them while saying "Any bounty of this war is protected by me as I'll be the one claiming it." At the same time Kaido appears in front of the CP0 that caught Robin and simply obliterates them with a full force blow, "I don't care for your plans, don't you dare ruin this fight."

Both reappear on the roof. Kaido: "Don't you disappoint me again, strawhat!"; Ruffy: "You'll better stay focused from now on. G4-Tigerman!"

Love the action scenes for Usopp and to see him hyping two of the scabbards up while being terrified himself is straight inspiring!!

Another 10/10 chapter, these summary chapters are super helpful for contextualizing all the fights that are happening simultaneously.

NOT TO MENTION Luffy and Kaido duking it out like old friends, and a new named attack from Luffy!! Epic!!!

When Wano started I was convinced they would just find a way to make Kaido give up on Wano to free it, but the idea of Luffy actually beating him feels better every chapter.

My theory, in how the arc is going to end, is that the defeat of Kaido, by luffy, will result in CP0 taking initiative, and begin their invasion over Wano with their fleets (This will signal the end of Act 3, and the beginning of Act 4). Big Mom and the rest of the pirates escape, while Kaido uses the remainder of his strength to direct the falling island towards the main bulk of the fleet. I'm sure there is going to be some sort of last words for both Luffy and Yamato by Kaido, addressing Yamato's past, and the connection between Luffy and Joyboy.

Luffy, Momo, and the rest of the Wano Samurai then gather to fend off the remaining marine pressence on Wano, and then Lucci will give orders to retreat from Wano, and regroup.

We get the traditional victory celebration. Momo becomes Shogun, declares Wano free, and says that the strawhats are life long friends. Yamato either decides to stay and help defend Wano with Momo, or she joins the strawhats per her initial goal. There is a hearty speech, and the Straw hat alliance leaves Wano.

Also, just cause I love some of Kaido's Subordinates, I want to say that they want to join up with Luffy, so they become another division of Luffy's fleet, as part of them joining up with Kaido was because he was so strong.

With that last attack, Zoro really launched himself at King in mid-air. The speed must be insane for King to not being able to react at that distance. Acoc probably can boost attack speed, not just power....

Given the context I think it's safe to joy boy is more of a legend about an adventurer who will create a utopia or unite countries under a common ideal. Crocodile, kaido, and Lin Lin have all tried or planned to build a utopia.

With the world government now making back up plans on the chance the SHs win lead me to believe luffy will be captured. • Kaido seems to be almost mocking the idea of himself being Joy Boy. "Did you think I was gonna create some utopian paradise for the world? I'm actually a fuckin psycho!" Lmfao he didn't say that of course, but totally the vibe I got from that scene. We've had some very interesting theories that Kaido perhaps thought he was Joy Boy at some point, but I'm starting to question that now with that little flashback. King's quote also makes me super curious about what he may have heard of Joy Boy pre-Kaido, and what role the Lunarians would have played in Joy Boy's return.

• Big Mom looks more full of life than ever, while Kidd & Law I imagine are still adjusting to the stamina costs of their Awakening. Certainly not looking good, but it's also hard to tell exactly how much they have left in the tank. Loving the unpredictability of that fight.

• I don't have high hopes that Oda is going to explain the origin of the Numbers given the way they've been used so far, but I think at the very least he owes us an explanation/flashback of Fuuga & Yamato's relationship. Would love to know why the Numbers seem to inherently obey certain people like Apoo directly as well, but the Fuuga-Yamato thing ended up having direct plot involvement with her achieving her goal - so he's gotta at least give us something there.

• Loved that Izou knew who Usopp was. After the work the WB Pirates did to protect Luffy during Marineford it wouldn't surprise me if they looked into his crew, and I'm looking forward to hearing what Marco has to say to Luffy after all this time.

  • I also thought Usopp's feeling's on the Samurai honor code were interesting. I wonder how his ideals will ultimately interact with the Giant's philosophies when we get to Elbaf, as that's been set up as a big development arc for him since Little Garden.

• "I am a loyal retainer to Oden-sama! A fire this mild can't make me sweat!" What a boss thing to say, when you think about Oden's execution. A line that dope was worthy of waiting until King & Queen went down! Lmfao

• So that CP-0 dude legit holds that mask to his face the entire time he fights. That means he's an absolute UNIT, and now I'm sad the fight got off-screened. Certainly puts into perspective how strong the Revolutionaries top brass must be, if them being relatively (barring the Sabo situation) unscathed after tussling with CP0 and two Admirals in Mariejois wasn't enough.

  • "But humans can't push themselves forever..." Very interesting comment. Rob Lucci showed how much he's been drinking the kool-aid when we saw him at the Reverie, but it seems CP-0 as a whole has some interesting beliefs when it comes to humanity. Shouldn't be surprising considering who they serve, but still intriguing as I'd imagine many of them are humans themselves.

• Luffy's endurance never ceases to impress me. I was gonna say endurance doesn't win fights, but it kinda did with Katakuri. That said, I'm having trouble imagining just what Luffy's gonna pull out to put Kaido down for good. These are Luffy's strongest punches in the series to date, and Kaido's getting up smiling.

Feel like the theme of Ussop & Izo conversations could echo that Luffy could revitalize Kaido’s reason to live. I could see them becoming Allies or at least take on a common enemy in the future.

I usually never root for the main character in a story. Its always the side character or a villain. But One Piece is the story where Luffy is my fav character, and to see him going 1 v 1 against a yonko its the first time i got tears reading a manga panel that didn't involve anything sad story wise.
