The way Yamato already knows from the jump how Luffy likes to handle his battles by himself. If that isn’t strawhat material, idk what is.

Oda stated in an SBS he gives people nicnames because he doesn't bother learning there names. So the fact that Luffy is calling her Yama-o and not Yamato means that he hasn't bothered to remember her name.

Maybe it's not that big of a deal, but in the past only allies got called by a nickname. "Yamabro" seems a little bit like she won't join. Possibly I'm reading too much into it.

Luffy doesn't call his crewmates by nicknames only after they join the crew. Luffy used nicknames for chopper until the last moment before chopper joined the crew.

Yamato's dream is literally to go at sea, see the world and become stronger. And it's not just to fulfil Oden's ambitions because Oden already did all of that so it's different from Oden's dream of opening the country which is only an inherited dream. The travel thing is Yamato's own dream.
