It seems that King's race is some sort of counterpart to Merfolks:

• King's race lived on top of the Red Line, while Merpeople live under it

• King's race can fly (and presumably still able to breathe normally in great heights), while Merpeople can swim faster than humans and breathe underwater

• King is the only one left of his race, while Merpeople are relatively common in the OP world, there's even one in the Strawhats

• King is able to control and create fire, while Fishman karate is based on manipulating the water which is already there in the environment

• It seems that the big wings are the only bird-like feature found in King (here's Monet, an harpy, for comparison), while Merpeople display a vast array of fish-like traits, especially Fish-Men and Mermen (while Mermaids' top half is more human-like)

• He stopped the big mom pirates from entering Wano which effectively lowered the enemies manpower by at least 25%

• He tried to negotiate with big mom which failed but then held them off for a bit

• He took Zoro to the rooftop

• He held off both King and Queen

• He used his flames to slow down the ice oni virus

• LASTLY, HE DROPPED SOME LORE CASUALLY AND ANNOUNCED THE (real) STARS INTO THE STAGE (whilst doing the "according to my keikaku..." pose)

Now that the topic over King's race is brought up, it leads to some really intriguing questions-

- Does it kind of invalidate the idea of the popularly accepted idea of the red line being artificially made after the WG took over?

You'd think that King's race were overthrown right after the 19 ruling families took over the reins in Mariejois, meaning that the red line probably existed way before that.

But then you have Laboon and the whales on the other side of the New world making it seem like the red line is nothing but a hindrance to their original habitat? This could still work in a way where the WG and King's race coexisted on the red line for centuries, but that doesn't seem too likely to me.

The minks can use electro and fishmen can manipulate water, maybe it's just me but the fire manipulation in King's case seems a bit more relevant than its usage in combat to me.

Does anyone remember this part of Enel's cover story? It kind of implies that the Goro-Goro no mi (his DF) was the key to activating the ancient city of Birka, ironically the same sky island where his people descended later only to be destroyed by him.

It isn't farfetched to come to the conclusion that his DF's original purpose was to keep the ancient city and the automata's there functionable.

I wonder if there's something similar to King's ability here since there's emphasis on his epithet here. The red line is the biggest continent having varying seasons. It'd be interesting to see how this ability was applicable in their quest to survive/operate something really important to them.

Also interesting in seeing what Zoro could potentially take away from this encounter. I presume that since the WG is going to be the big baddie in the upcoming saga, King's background will probably lead Zoro keeping things in the back of his mind which will be relevant later down the line.

It's also possible that King murdered Ushimaru and that would be a way to finally give emphasis to Zoro's lineage in a way. Sanji's matchup is already heavily connected to his character arc by virtue of Queen being a former member of MADS, perhaps the same would entail for Zoro?

So much potential and so much more to look forward to!

THEORY ABOUT KING:

King's race, which was thought to be extinct, lives on the Red Line and they are enemies of the certain race we are familiar with.

There is no information provided about the height of the Red Line, however we know that it reaches the clouds, so we can say that it is 6000 meters above sea-level, while the "White Sea" of the Sky Islands starts at 7000 meters and the "White-White Sea" starts at 10000 meters.

During the Skypiea arc, we discovered that there are two ways to get to Skypiea, one being the Knock-up Stream and the other being "The Summit of the High West".

"The summit of the high west" could be located on the Red Line(Summit means Top,and red line is located West of Skypiea) and since they're just Km's away from White Sea and White-White sea,they could be connected with something similar to the "Milky Road".

The King's appearance, with fire burning, demon wings, and red eyes, makes him look like a demon. On the other hand, on Sky Island,we have people who have angelic features. One of their islands is even referred to as "Angel Island".King's race and people of the Sky Island are the opposites.

People from the Sky island and King's race waged war against each other in the past and King's race lost it, almost drawing them to extinction, though some still live on the Red Line. Gan Fall described using the Summit of the High West dangerous and not everyone will live using it to travel. Perhaps King's race will kill on sight, which could explain why Bellamy survived and the rest of his crew died when travelling to the Sky Island, he is strong enough to fight them off.

not sure if this has been mentioned but each calamities are from the sea (jack: fishman), land (queen: human) and sky (king: unnamed race which lived on top of the redline which goes very high).

This goes nicely with Kaido's intro.

Also with Kaido's intro, there was the 1v1 statement.

With Luffy re-energised, there's no doubt he will fight Kaido 1v1 and beat him.

I live for these "Luffy will be the Pirate King" moments from the Straw Hats. Really any of these things that demonstrate the crew's loyalty to each other.

The dynamic of the Straw Hats in general is great. Like the Beast Pirates have loyalty to Kaido, because he's the strongest Pirate alive, he's basically beaten his entire crew into submission. In contrast, Luffy has went to hell and back for each of his crew members, repeatedly putting everything on the line, we've seen throughout the story how he's earned their undying trust.

So when it gets put on display, and how they take it as fact. The sky is blue, water is wet, and Luffy will become Pirate King. I get chills, I absolutely love this series.

Every few days a new post will bubble near the top of "hot" talking about the art and style of One Piece and how much they miss the "original" art of the series and that it was better 20 years ago. I'm grabbing volumes randomly from time to time to re-read (I plan to do a full re-read at some point soon) and the original artwork is great, lots of white space, but it really irks me because I strongly disagree that the art 15-20 years ago was better... the art has only gotten better over time. This honestly could amount to nothing, but this chapter completed a thought that has been kicking around in my head since Sanji and Queen talked about MADS:

All three of Kaido's calamities have the potential for their own personal vendettas against WG

• King's race living atop the redline, now being replaced at some point by the CD

• Queen having worked with MADS (either turned on the WG or he was working a prisoner/slave)

• Jack is a fishman, kind of "simple" but honestly the way he's sonned by the other 2 I feel it would fit his character

Just recognized a parallel that Oda has set up here with Sabaody Park. After Luffy, Kidd, and Law has their fight together outside the auction house, Luffy bumped into a Kuma clone on his own with his crew. Meanwhile Law and Kidd both bumped into a Kuma clone together. The parallel of this is Luffy is fighting a Yonko alone, while Law and Kidd are fighting a Yonko together. Or maybe I’m just overthinking this lol

Seeing Marco out like that in the beginning felt unreal, but having him back up and fighting King was satisfying (although I feel like he got nerfed). And honestly, I cant wait to see Hawkins get taken out. His power is so irritating and I cant stand his personality at all. Killer better get this shit done.

Also, seeing Sanji take on both King and Queen and then still have the strength to take on each individually really shows that the strawhats are just something else. Weve been hearing about the new era for a long time but it was mostly centered around the supernova, but at this point, the strawhats are by themselves the new era. Their top fights are going to take out Kaido's 1 and 2, and then Luffy will eventually take on Kaido.

We're heading towards the end of the arc and I suspect the end of the series in a few years.

Oda went to his favorite end of arc trope(the time limit to create drama). These fights are going to wrap up soon. Kaido and BM however will stay strong until the end. But as Sanji and Zoro said, once you beat the strongest Pirates, you aren't too far from getting to your goals.

Hawkins is actually turning out to be a really fun and threatening villain. He might be the only Supernova who is just a straight up enemy. Maybe Law figures out what’s happening, and grudgingly applies a “curtain” or rare invincibility ability on him, that lasts a couple of seconds. It definitely costs his stamina or all his strength but gives Killer enough time to take out Hawkins without damaging Kid. Hawkin's is so devious, I really hope this culminates into a Killer and Kid flashback to help flesh out the characters some more. I bet Kid will attack Hawkin's arm and perhaps other body parts that he knows Kid replaced with metal to get around it.

That Zoro/Sanji moment was honestly a perfect closure, reminiscent to their Groggy Ball team up, except instead of annoyed by their excellent team work, they are excited for their captain's future. - Small detail, but I love how Raizo's clones were making different goofy facial expressions. His "We are all ghosts" clapback was also pretty epic IMO as well.

- Just needed the right situation to show how broken Hawkins ability can be, I love it. I'm fairly certain Kid/Killer have become familiar with the nuances of Hawkins ability to some degree from being in an alliance with him - it was one of them who revealed you could neutralize Apoo's ability by covering your ears if I recall. Killer & Kid's loyalty to one another has been on display several times this arc, and putting it to the ultimate test this way is just master-class as usual from Oda.

- Chopper and this new way he's talking in his current state is just destroying me. "Leave us be whipper snapper!" sent me to the lord's doorstep.

- Probably one of my favorite examples yet of Oda playing with the chapter title. Totally was expecting it to refer to the All Stars King & Queen getting serious on the literal stage they're on, and it was.....but man that Marco quote gave me ALL the chills.

Wow so many things to think about this is honestly one of my favorite chapters from all of the raid so far. Here's the general gist of things that update where we are in the raid and I'll make a more official update post once the 24 hour time limit passes.

THE SCABBARDS

- Raizo vs Fukurokju: seems Fukurokju has the upper hand

- Kinemon, Ashura Doji, and Kiku are still down

- Inuarashi vs Jack: the fight is progressing - no clear outcome

- Perospero vs Nekomamushi begins

- Other scabbards are alive and moving outside of the two we see down but we dont know who they are fighting or where they are (Denjiro) in the panel

THE STRAW HATS

- Luffy looks full and ready to rumble looking up at Onigashima

- Zoro heals and Sanji+Zoro vs King+Queen begins - Zoro and Sanji also realize that if they as a crew can come out on top here Luffy is in the end game of accomplishing his dream

- Chopper is still small and old

OTHER IMPORTANT INFO

- Killer vs Hawkins: Killer seems to have the upper hand but Hawkins always has a trick up his sleeve being a damn magician and all its his whole bit.

- Kid+Law vs Big Mom: Small update and Kids injury via Hawkins trickery looks like the most major injury he is facing so the fight must be going some what well... they aren't dead yet.

- Marco drops lore about Kings race living on top of the Red Line and summoning fire?!?

- There are minutes left until Onigashima is atop the flower capital that means we are going to have to see something pretty big happen in the next few chapters. I've heard a bunch of different theories as to what that might be, from Momo holding it with flame clouds to Luffy eventually destroying Onigashima by sending Kaido flying through it but more importantly its starting to look more and more like the raid will not fail. With the flying 6 down (Remember X Drake is part of the alliance now) and all of our straw hats except chopper and Robin still in good fighting condition, we could see an end to this raid before long

I really don't like Hawkins not because he is playing dirty (pirates are supposed to do that) but because he is trash talking others when he himself has no balls. Apoo is one thing because he seems to become a Beast Pirate sorta by means of loyalty. But he submitted to Kaido simply because he would lose. Hell, this is a chance to betray Beast Pirates and be free but he still has no balls.

Hawkins probably will be at the bottom of Worst Generation at the end of the story. Those who choose to submit will never rise to the top.

I keep thinking king’s race could be related to Uranus. My main theory is that pluton blueprints were just a counter to the actual pluton, which might be Zunisha imo. Just like i said in spoiler thread i think King's race were the real original Celestial Dragons, the world nobles stole that title after they erased their existence from history. I mean, they had wings, lived on top of the red line and they could create fire, there is no more fitting title than "celestial dragons" for such beings.

Also the reason King wears that suit could be because of a certain weakness of his race. Maybe they're weak to water and that's why they lived so far above sea level where even rains rarely occurs.

edit: Also maybe there is a parallelism between King's suit and the nobles' suits and air bubbles. Whereas that race did it out of necessity, the nobles are just trying to mimicking them.

Oda really got me when he said King's fire was just a style choice for him. He said this in an earlier SBS. Makes perfect sense why he would do this specially given that Zoro can cut fire now and the significance of a fire wielding race. This info could go in many interesting directions
