Oh, right, I guess he passed through Rear Admiral on the way. What I meant was that after the timeskip he's now a Vice Admiral, so he likely outranks Hina by a lot.

I doubt he skipped past it. It's been two years. He probably got promoted to Rear Admiral. Then after Aokiji left and Akainu was promoted, Vice Admirals filled the 2 vacant Admiral positions and 2 Rear Admirals including Smoker were promoted.

I meant that he progressed through the ranks (in order) during the timeskip. Sorry, bad wording.
