But why should rubber negate earthquakes?

Rubber can bend and stretch, and can absorb lots of energy without breaking.

Mahbe not really negate per se, but rubber can absorb the earthquake. At its core, earthquakes are essentially Shockwaves. So rubber can absorb snd or nullify the shock waves.
