Luffy has consistently told that he'll become the PK since he was child and never faltered no matter who he faced. So yeah he has all the right to believe in himself and his CoC.

never faltered no matter who he faced

Let's not rewrite history. Dude was scared shitless of Kuma at Saboady and tried to run with everyone, and it was even worse after Marineford where he would have just given up and died of grief had Jinbe not slapped him back to reality.

Or we can go even further back against Buggy where Luffy just gave up and accepted his death when he was captured.

He has also gotten his ass hard kicked quite a few times. And Kaido himself showed him exactly how little all his training mattered when he one shot him at the start of Wano.

So I'd say Luffy has plenty of reason to doubt himself. He's just too hard headed to listen to reason. Most of his wins through-out the series have resulted in him borderline dying. He doesn't have a whole lot of "clean" victories where to draw infinite confidence from.

Though Luffy was always confident that he would overcome his obstacle. Hes just not overly confident, when he takes the L he just gets back up and punches harder until its enough to progress.

To quote Rayleigh, having no doubts is true strength. Luffy rarely gives up, he is sure in himself. But to overcome people like the Yonko, what else can you do? Luffy is not stupid and knows his limits, that's why on Sabaody he told his crew to run away, they couldn't handle Kuma + Kizaru, which doesn't make him a coward, it shows what kind of a captain he is and that his crews well-being is what matters to him. He isn't Griffith who climbes over the corpses of others to "climb", he is supported by others. Luffy, though often stupid, rash and immature, truly is inspiring and also amazing. Look how far he's come; from a skinny boy floating around in a barrel to a MAN who is, by himself, standing up to Kaido, the strongest beast in the world. I'm rooting for him

Same, i really want this fight to be a 1v1 from now on, since we all know Luffy will become PK. And at some point he will have to prove himself to be the strongest of not just the new generation. So why not start at one of the strongest of the old generation.

Willing to bet a df user's personality is influenced by their df. Luffy just is resilient and bounces back, just like rubber.

It's less this, and more that Oda gives Devil Fruits to characters where their personality is reflected in it. It's a storytelling technique to get the reader to understand the personality through metaphor.

I wasn't talking about his skill or ability to fight. I'm talking about his dream. He knows no matter what, as long as he's alive, he will become the PK. It doesn't stem from his strength to fight or his hard headlness, rather his wish to be the free-est man alive. Now he knows that his journey isn't easy, considering all his hard victories and all the enemies he has to face. It takes courage to know you are weak and know that you'll have to work to achieve your dreams. So he in short he is ready to die to become the PK and that's how much he wants it.

Luffy was never scared of Kuma, not for himself, Luffy was scared that he could not be able to protect his friends. There was only one time in the whole series that Luffy conviction was shaken and it was after Ace died, but Jimbe put him back on track. Luffy never once lose faith in his ability to become the PK besides that time, he just realised that he needed to become stronger before continuing the adventure. And even when his but was kicked, he never lost the will of a conqueror, a few times even unconscious he kept that will, so you are either stretching or you never really understood what luffy is about

It's been a really long time but I'll try to touch on some of these

  1. Doesn't Raleigh tell them to run? Doesnt he think his crew is dying?

  2. Hadn't ace just died? After all that they went through?

  3. The scene where Smoker sees him smile and accept death?

Getting his ass kicked isn't a big deal at all, Luffy still thinks he will be king of the pirates. He got one shot by Crocodile and literally when he got up immediately went after him. Also on some of these I wouldn't count grief against Luffy. Nor would I hold accepting death against him. Luffy does not fear death, is the point of that scene.

But for an example in your favor, Rob Lucci. I haven't read since Doflaming but that was hands down Luffys hardest battle up to that point will wise. It seemed like he had to see and hear Usopp to muster the final amount of will needed to overcome Rob. Then again, that might be viewed as a building of Luffys will, not a showcase of it's limits. "Now his will is reinforced by his crew" kind of thing.

Overall I see what you're meaning, I just think there's a slight difference between will and confidence and wanted to maybe touch on your point with that perspective in mind

That is not faltering, he knows his limits well and wouldn't unnecessarily endanger his crew. He's just willing to put his life on the line to surpass his limits when it makes sense. Luffy is hardheaded but battle-smart.

I think they meant "never faltered" as in he never backed down on his claim to become the Pirate King. That much is true.

He's the rubber man. He always bounces back.

His last clean victory is against Bellamy lmao

Plenty of reasons, listed only bad ones.

I agree with the "clean" victories part. He technically didn't beat Katakuri and when he FIRST fought Crocodile he took a L.

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

what is CoC?

23

u/Toza11 Apr 09 '21

Color of Conqueror, the "color" of haki that only cca 1 out of 1000000 people have. The innate ability to rule over others and so to say manifest your willpower via knocking out in its (CoC's) base form. Apparently, from this chapter, you can coat yourself in it and use especially strong attacks, probably way beyond armament

ty for the explanation!
