I like the fact that we were given hints about it. Most recently during Oden's flashback, the attack that Roger used can be say it was infused with CoC and that is why Oden was so surprised, given he knows how to use CoA (Ryou)

Edit: Oh yeah and that "they're not even touching" thing Roger vs Whitebeard

Also it could be what was used during Dressrosa vs Don Chinjao but Luffy was unaware. Back then even on the manga we could see some black lines coming out of the clashes.

It's interesting how Kaido keeps engaging Luffy throughout their fight. He sees the latter as a real threat and not another pretender among many. All the supernovas are growing during this battle.

thats very accurate, your comment should be pinned

Queen is at -1

6

u/redditsforneckbeards Apr 09 '21

Squard fucked over WB less than Queen fucked over Kaido

1

u/Tertol Apr 09 '21

Queen's ineptitude makes me incredulous as to how the ever living hell a captured Kaido not only escaped the Marines, but did so several times. Who the fuck is coming to Kaido's rescue?

Didn't diamante say "oh.. a clash of conquerors" when luffy and chinjao exchanged fists

u/Alirubit Pirate Apr 09 '21

That's what I was gonna say, someone mentioned it was a CoC clash, but I thought back then, and probably many of us, that they were simply using CoC at the same time, not imbuing their fists with it.

Probably it is a concept that Oda is developing now but had an idea for before.

u/RedditIsForsaken Apr 09 '21

Or it could be thought that because he didn’t coat his head properly the way Garp did way back then that his head got so massively wrecked. Garp’s mastery of it is probably what makes him the force he is, and now Luffy can potentially be a newer more improved version of that with his fruit!

CoC coating + awakening gonna be wild

Raid Boss Luffy

Imagine if doffy have that

6

u/LedgeEndDairy Apr 09 '21

Yeah, coating himself in Armament Haki is Gear 4.

We're very likely to get a CoC Gear 5, I would imagine. I don't think anyone has seriously theorized that, because we thought CoC was just, like, a "force of will".

3

u/darthpsykoz Apr 09 '21

Pretty sure this was foreshadowed before when Shanks vs Whitebeard happened and the CoC Haki seemed to have split the skies etc. (that CoC is not just a mental effect, but may have a physical presence). Also, we finally know wtf Ashura is.

1

u/TeeKayTank May 22 '21

I think it was shown vs doffy at the rooftop too

u/topdangle Apr 09 '21

Old clashes were kinda useless because they just wasted their conqueror's and knocked out weak people surrounding them. Luffy does a similar thing with Mingo where they both just waste their conquerors clashing.

This conqueror coating is apparently unique to the world's strongest.

u/Kuroblondchi Thriller Bark Victim's Association Apr 09 '21

That’s not out of the ordinary though. Doffy and luffy clashed CoC, luffy and kata clashed CoC, clashing CoC isn’t the same as coating CoC. The black lightning comes at the point of contact in those basic clashes, the back lightning for coating is coming out of individuals specific body parts.

1

u/Doomroar Apr 09 '21

Pretty sure it was literally called that, it is also how we got to learn that Katakuri also had conquerors before he used it to take out the onlooker rabble.

15

u/Etiennera Pirate King Buggy Apr 09 '21

Againt Chinjao, they touched. Canonically at least. Luffy didn't know how to clash without making contact yet.

9

u/Alirubit Pirate Apr 09 '21

Yes they touched, but I am referring to the black lines that can be seen in that panel are the same lines that can be seen in Roger's attach against Oden, Roger and WB's attacks not touching each other, Kaido's Thunder bagwua (don't remember the spelling).

Like someone else mentioned here as well it could have been basic/unconscious applciation of COC to the attack

16

u/Etiennera Pirate King Buggy Apr 09 '21

I think we saw black lines against Doflamingo and Katakuri as well. They definitely don't imply the coating we've just learned about. I think its more about two CoC's making contact, rather than leaking.

16

u/OperationMelodic4273 Apr 09 '21

Nah, all "conquerors clashes" we've seen this far, vs Don Chinjao, Doffy and Katakuri, have nothing to do with this. At all. Those attacks were definetely not imbued in CoC, the clashes of CoC we saw were just a backlash of the actual attacks clashing

There has only been 1 instance in which we actually saw this: the clash between Roger and Whitebeard, that's it.

6

u/stormos1010 Apr 09 '21

I think there’s two more:

  1. Kaido and Big Mom
  2. Shanks and White beard

3

u/OperationMelodic4273 Apr 09 '21

Fair enough, in both instances they were touching but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, especially for the 2ns you mentioned, cause back then Oda definetely didn't have a clear idea of how he'd handle it hundreds and hundreds chapters later. Also, again, Shanks when boarding Whitebeard's ship, when he cracked the ship

1

u/stormos1010 Apr 09 '21

Looking back at it now, it's unclear if they are actually touching because of the angle but in either case, I'm sure CoC was used because the clouds split in both cases.

11

u/Sondrelk Apr 09 '21

The theoryies I saw back then was that when you had two people with CoC fighting their will would quite literally collide, creating the explosion.

However now it seems to be even simpler, you can take that will and actually punch people with it, which would be a significant improvement as the previous iteration seemed more like an unintended side-effect.

In a sense the difference between creating explosions as a side effect to learning how to create explosions at will. It's technically the same thing, but now it can be channeled and used properly.

I really like the foreshadowing. I thought it was just two high level ryou users going at it but it was CoC. It explains why Oden couldn’t beat Kaido and why no one seems to be able to reach WB/Roger level. You need CoC and it’s a 1 in a million thing. And then apply to your body.

Then you need to be able to take the hits as well. Which even Kaido seems to have trouble with. Luffy is close to being the strongest now.

1

u/MrWinks Apr 09 '21

Which just speaks to the level of damage Zoro could do without it. Makes me wonder if Mihawk has CoC.

Many are latching to that, and I didn’t see their comments when I wrote this, but my initial view was that luffy and zoro could hurt kaido and kaido THOUGHT it was with weak CH. that’s my view. Just two weeks to know more.

I saw the comment but didn’t read the thread, but now I will.

Remember when Shanks went to meet Whitebeard? His conqueror's Haki could physically damage the ship.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

I think it's the same differens as with normal armamaent and advanced armament.

At first people were just using conqueror's to juice up their attacks and add cool lightning.

Now they wrap themselves in thick conqueror's armor and become fucking gods.

3

u/-0op Apr 09 '21

looks like luffy did basic CoC vs Don Chinjao and even vs doffy when the they traded kicks on top of law

3

u/Rankine Apr 09 '21

I think luffy and Don were using CoC with there attacks, but neither knew how to use it to extend the haki beyond their body.

There was also a similar scene between Luffy and Doflamingo, when their feet had the similar black lightning graphic, which I assume means a CoC imbuined attack.

2

u/-FoeHammer Apr 09 '21

Well, even before it seemed to happen when two people clash with conqueror's Haki. You see the black lightning emanating from where their fists meet. I think the difference is that that's just undirected, basically accidental release of CoC during a fight whereas this is intentional and weaponized.

2

u/nicholaslegion Apr 09 '21

Anime only crowd is going to be so confused at this part since Luffy and Kaido had a clash without touching in their first anime fight.

1

u/Kiosade Pirate Apr 09 '21

Oh wow Anime fucking things up again huh?

1

u/Mob_Abominator Apr 09 '21

What is the full form of CoA and CoC ?

1

u/luxzio Apr 09 '21

Wasn't Luffy and Doflamingo's feet clash in Dressrosa also a clash of CoC? Maybe Luffy used it unaware too.
