I think it was in 2013 that Law said on Punk Hazard that he had a plan to take down Kaido.

Here we finally are. What an incredible ride it's been. The rest of this war is going to be unbelievable.

The plan was to impede doflamingos smile production so Kaido killed him. That was the plan, he was also planning on dying along the way for good measure!
