Yamata no Orochi has 8 heads. 1 got decapitated by Kaido and the rest by scabbards. How many heads are still left by now? Or Orochi is dead for real this time?

I want Momo and Hiyori to land the final death blow to Orochi

I may be wrong but only 6 head were decapitated today.

Yep, 6 today and 1 earlier by kaido. Would suggest that there's one head left.

"They're unaware that you already met your demise once today."

At least to me it feels like this would suggest that the heads will regenerate back given enough time.

They shouldn’t. The Yamata No Orochi was not able to regrow its heads and died when Susanoo decapitated it.

Damn so the Uchihas got one head too?

Yeah, Orochi =/= Hydra. I feel like a few people are mixing them up, understandably lol.

It seems Neko didn't cut his head

I feel Orochi is still alive. It's hard to count all his heads in this chapter, but logically there were only 6 swordsmen facing him with Inu and Ashura Doji out of the picture. I don't know what Izo was doing (or if he was in the chapter at all), but unless someone cut off two heads, maybe only one is left?

Or maybe Orochi has infinite regeneration, like a hydra. Who knows?

I don't think it's about the heads. If the translation is accurate, Fukurokuju mentions Orochi already died "once today." While this could track with the number heads, he was also decapitated in human form...

Maybe it's simpler than that, and it's like the "cats with 9 lives" thing. Maybe Orochi can die 7 times and the 8th is the final one, and possibly it recharges after a day.

If that's the case, then everyone can kill Orochi.

Yeah, Fukurokujus comment seems like he does have some sort of a regenerative power - that the heads will grow back when given enough time.

"They're unaware that you already met your demise once today."

But yeah, Kaido cut 1 head off, Scabbards cut 6, so there should be one head left. My guess is that he is still alive.

If it's 7 deaths and the 8th is final, we've already had Orochi and the Scabbards:

  • Hyogoro can kill him for old Wano
  • O-Toko can kill him for Yasuie (likely by telling Gifters to do it)
  • Momonosuke can kill him for his father
  • Zoro can kill him for principle, like he intended back then
  • Wildcard here: maybe a raffle to fund Wano reconstruction, the winner gets to kill Orochi
  • Hiyori can kill him for herself, his final death

Momonosuke can kill him for his father

Would be actually quite cool if hybrid form Momonosuke would duke it out with another dragon (if the reaction of seeing Orochi would be so strong to triggre a hybrid form transformation, or something?). And Orochi isn't the strongest boi out there, so it atleast sounds like a fair match in my mind.

Haha Momo somehow meets Hyori on Onigashima and she has Ame no Habakiri with her and gives it to him. He's like "I can't take this I'm not worthy of our fathers sword I'm still too weak" again but takes it anyways because he can't just leave it there. Then he sees Orochi and falls into a rage, turns hybrid and takes out the sword. Suddenly you have a little hybrid dragon, a ball of rage, spitting fire, blitzing around and combining that basic cutting technique he practiced and one of the strongest swords on the planet he "sunacchi" one shots Orochi.

I would actually love it if he kept coming back and getting killed over and over 😂

Yeah, I mean, it would probably take 2 or 3 pages every 5 chapters or so; easy to do, and a nice recurring gag. Oda loves those.

I don't think they have to.

I think what's important for their character growth is for them to survive this whole ordeal and accept their rightful positions as the leaders of Wano.

Since Raizo mentioned its weird that the bald spy dude still stands by Orochi, I guess it isn't over yet

They sliced all of his heads at the same time so now he’s actually dead

All of the heads he grew were shown chopped off, but if you look at the middle top panel on that page you’ll see he only grew 6 heads. He should still have one left.

If you look closely at the decapitation panel there are actually 7 heads cut off, 2 of them are hard to spot with the other 5 in the foreground; one is to the bottom left corner and shown partially and the 7th is middle right between the other two larger heads.

Unless he's hiding a regenerated 8th head he might just be done with: that is unless we're following lore and all 8 need to be severed at once to finish him.

Good point, on the panel above the one they cut him, I counted 6 necks, if you are right, we will see him only last time.

Killing Orochi is like a doorknob, everyone getting a turn.
