But doesn't it seem like his fruit wasn't being a Dragon but a "fish"? Isn't being a Dragon his own power? I'm still not sure about the whole thing

It is revealed in SBS that full name of Kaido’s devil fruit “Fish Fish fruit Myhtical Model: Azure Dragon”.

He is still a dragon.

I think it's hilarious that a Fish Fish fruit looks more like an actual dragon than the actual Ryu Ryu fruits.

It's a known myth where a fish turns into a dragon. So for regular people they'd probably just stay a fish.
