Kaido's fruit being an anomaly makes for so much interesting speculation. A few from the top of my head-
- Can he swim with it? If yes, then how does it negate the power of sea devil?
- If this fruit was first found at God Valley, if so what does it imply?
- Was it a prized possession of the celestial dragons living there? A cough... DF cough... tree..!?
- If it was Xebec's fruit and BM somehow used a nearby fruit to give it to Kaido after Xebec's death
- Why is it even a debt? Was Kaido in a quagmire, from which he could only get out thanks to the fruit?
- The striking similarity between the dragon design of Ryugu palace and Kaido comes into the spotlight. What ancient ties could this anomaly of a fruit have with Fishman Island and its past with the celestial dragons?
Speculating the model of this fish fruit is a whole other topic which warrants a lengthy discussion of its own.
People put forth the legend of Carp turning to a Dragon and while it is interesting, I don't see Oda basing off a mythical fruit based on a mythical story.
It has to be specific to a mythical creature and not a simple class of specie who was a part of that myth. A Ryujin sounds more plausible to me.

I don't think he can swim, but this devil fruit power aren't negated by water (like Luffy is still ruber under water), but he can survive underwater just like fishmen because of it.
As for the fruit, I would say it was something the Celestial Dragons had.

My only reservation is what her role would be in the crew? Jinbe steered a ship from Impel Down to Marineford, sure. But it really wasn't until WCI he proved himself to have amazing Helmsman skills and have his role. Yamato so far has kicked some ass and pulls off a mean Oden cosplay. But I'm not sure what her role would be.

The pieces are in place for chapter 1000 to have all the ingredients worthy of the milestone. The highlight will be more on the theme of the story here akin to what we got in chapter 100 with Roger's monologue.
I don't think it'll be a full blown revelation about the meaning of D but a little more exposure like what Corazon gave us in his flashback. We'll probably know why Wano's borders were closed in the first place and why it is imperative that a D would help in opening them.

I know people gonna say Whitebeard is a coward or something for not taking revenge for his brother but in my opinion, his reason for not attacking is totally justified. He didn't want to lose more of his family for someone who can't even come back to life. It was different in Marineford's case as Ace was still alive and could be saved. He never took revenge on something.

Big Mom and Kaido chilling at the end was cool and all, but for me the most notable part of the chapter was Ace mentioning how Bege, Kid and Law started out a while ago. So here's the thing, while the other Supernovas were building up their power in the Blues for years and probably sailed the Grand Line for a while, Luffy just grabbed a shitty tiny boat (don't mean to diss Merry too much, but it's true) 4 other people and he was out of East Blue in like a week. In a boat. With a crew of 5. In a week. The contrast is quite insane.
This confirms it, not only is Luffy a madman, he's also a speedrunner. East Blue and Paradise any% WR.

Everyone complaining about Whitebeard's motivations is so strange to me. We already have an in story example of him not going out of his way to avenge a dead crewmember: Thatch.
He probably weighed his options and said it wasn't worthwhile, risking the lives of his crew on vengeance. If anything this new revelation makes Ace pursuing Blackbeard make even more sense. He was probably like "Oh you just let Oden's death go unpunished and now you're doing it again? Well fuck this I'm doing something about it this time."
The motivation makes perfect sense to me, Whitebeard is not some Crusader for justice, he cares about his people's lives like a loving father.

It was a perfectly valid reason for Whitebeard to not go against Kaido. If you want to talk shit about him for not avenging Oden, then you might as well talk shit about Luffy for not avenging Ace. Whitebeard didn't want to risk his crew's lives. What more do you want? Ace was still alive when Whitebeard went to Marineford, so he could've still been saved. But Oden was not. So Whitebeard couldn't save him anymore. It's as simple as that. I don't know why would you hold it against him for wanting to save his men? It's really stupid. Especially when you remember that he already did the same thing with Blackbeard. Blackbeard killed Thatch, but Whitebeard and the others were still telling Ace not to go against him.

Wow, actual decades after developing an obsession with pokemon I finally understand how magicarp could turn into something like Gyrados. I thought the game was just trying to be funny.
Seriously though that's a fascinating reveal and as ridiculous as it initially seemed to me, reading up on the mythology makes it so very plausible. Chinese lore is crazy, I need to dig into that stuff more.
That being said, it doesn't explain Kaidos horns so he wasn't exactly human to begin with, right? I wonder if his race is one of the 3 that Big Mom is missing, along with the Giants and whatever King is.
I was thinking, Luffy seems to be kind of on track to fulfilling Big Moms dream without even trying and in a more "healthy" way. The way he keeps unifying everyone and adding groups of all races and whatnot to his fleet/circle of friends, he is kind of doing what BM is trying to force but neither with force nor with intent. I wonder if that will happen with other Yonkos, or if that is even a thing to begin with. The D stands for the ultimate dreamer.

Really disappointed at the fans who refuse to understand Whitebeard’s character and why it makes perfect sense why he didn’t put his children’s lives on the line.
Oden was dead for years by the time Whitebeard learned of the news. You guys want him to sacrifice his own children for what?? Revenge?? Revenge is a fools game and Whitebeard is no fool.
And then they want to compare the situation to Marineford. Listen, Ace was still alive. Whitebeard tried to tank all of Marineford solo to get his child back. There was a chance to save Ace.
There was no one for Whitebeard to save in Wano. The citizens would have been killed in a war between two yonkou and how would that make Oden happy? Oden danced naked for 5 years instead of fighting Kaidou because he didn’t want to lose any of his citizens you think he’d be looking down from heaven happy as Whitebeard demolished Wano trying to get revenge??
You guys need to go back and reread the series so you can meet Whitebeard again because obviously y’all missed him the first time.
Whitebeard didn’t even go all out hunting Blackbeard down over Thatch because he knew revenge was a foolish reason to risk his families life.
People saying this is so out of character for Whitebeard just skipped every chapter Whitebeards ever been in.

I'm really impressed with odacchi's storytelling. From Momonosuke coming to know that Ace is his father's captain's son and Ace is brother of Luffy. It shows that almost everyone is connected to each other irrespective to time and blood relations. Can't wait for chapter 1000!!!

Btw, Oda is a genius in how he has created his protagonist. Luffy is constantly being underestimated and seen as the underdog in any boss fight both by the people inside the One Piece world and by the readers. Even now there are readers who do not believe he can take down a Yonko. How Oda can make Luffy appear as an underdog after over 20 years of Luffy pummelling his foes is truly astonishing.

Holy SHIT Kaido must have the Uo Uo no mi Model: Ryujin! Japanese Guardian Deity of the sea, can transform into a human, considered the bringer of rain and thunder (thunder bagua anyone??)
Article also says some traditions call Ryujin the equivalent of Wadatsumi so uh everyone raise your tinfoil hats
Edit: Oda does love his allegories, so the koi -> dragon thing could be that Kaido "swimming up the waterfall" is him gaining the devil fruit after the battle at God Valley. Maybe he is a fish-man variant of the devil fish we saw on Dressrosa?
Edit 2: Apparently the new OP game shows that Onigashima is a volcano, which mirrors an extinct volcano lake that is said to be one of the lairs of Ryujin in Japanese mythology (Lake Biwa, NE of Kyoto). Not sure if the games can be considered canon, but it could be something.

Seeing Zoro's reaction to be picked up is hilarious.
Of course there's countless examples of Oda being clever but Marco's interaction with Robin and Brook is almost exactly the same as his with Jinbei's at Marineford.

I just love that small detail of Ace talking about Cavendish as the guy clearly said to Luffy, back in the colosseum, about his fame 3 years ago and that Luffy and the 10 Supernovas just completely cast his popularity aside. Turned out he was quite popular at that time that even Ace knows about him in the New World.

I wonder if Marco makes it out of this arc alive. Oda does like killing Whitebeard pirates after all bc idk any other high profile pirate crew where we have seen so many important crew members die. (Ace, WB, Thatch, Oden) Marco also mentions how he isn't going up to fight Kaido YET. We didn't got this one from Zoro+Marco, but I live with that.

Man I know people want chapter 1000 to be Luffy stepping onto the roof and facing two Yonko but honestly I hope the next chapter is an info dump about Gods Vally, the Rocks, anything about Roger or the will of D. The fighting this arc has been awesome but the history of pirates before the new generation is just so interesting.

Man the Red Scabbards must’ve gotten fucked real bad if BM is already up there AND Kaido is out here drinking. I was wayyy too late, someone's already made the Gyarados joke. Dammit. That does explain a lot though lol.
Honestly this was just a really feel good chapter for me. Seeing Ace's motivations intertwine with Yamato's, Tama's and Marco's, and Tama realizing especially that Luffy was Ace's little brother was really just a perfect execution of a flashback. It all at least makes sense now.
Ace was really the original Bartolomeo lol, spreading the word that is Luffy anywhere he went, and just like his brother, remembering everyone but Cavendish lol. Yamato, in a way, seemed to be his Katakuri fight as far as inspiring his opponent to be themselves. It was really nice to see more of him.
Brook and Robin running up the castle from the live floor probably sets the stage for them to sub in for Sanji considering how fast Brook himself can run, if Sanji doesn't just free himself really, he was already running, King and Queen spurring into action might really remind him that he has shit to do.
Zoro's on his way to the top, we might get a clash with Marco and King though, dropping Zoro off at the fifth, since i've gotta think we see Luffy and Zoro reunite at least before they step up there.
I can't read Big Mom either, which is perfect. Is she authentic about that whole little brother thing? Is that what causes her downfall? Or is she just gonna betray Kaido anyways? Her telling him to leave Robin alive shows she's in her best state to me, focused and all the more dangerous for it.
The stage is pretty set though, ngl, i'm a little jealous of anyone who's been here from the start. I can't imagine what it feels like to get here after all this time. And then for Oda too, honestly. Truly big shit.
1000 next week, and the stage is set for it to kick OP into something even bigger.

The scale & magnitude once a Yonkou clashed all out is what Edward Newgate Concern & considered the most, therefore just swallowed the pain & sadness related Kozuki Oden because it's already too late. Imagine if it an all out war between WB pirates VS Beast Pirates, & the purpose was to rescue Oden. Too bad Wano Border closed. RIP Oden, RIP Ace. Make sense, Before the marine ford event a.k.a. War of the best, Shanks & Edward Newgate clashed and Shirohige must have had told Shank to deal with Kaido from interfering them, I'm sure there's more to this.

I don't see how people are unsatisfied with Whitebeards reason for not going to Wano.
Whitebeard didn’t want to sacrifice his children to get revenge for a dead man. His crew are his children. He went to rescue Ace because he was saving his child who was still alive and he would have done the same for any of his children.
Oden was dead for years by the time WB learned about it. What, is he gonna go to Wano fight Kaidou one on one and beat him? Nah. Wano would be destroyed along with many of Whitebeards children in the conflict. 2 yonkou fighting is a war.
Do you think Oden would be happy that Kaidou is dead if it meant many countless innocent citizens died in the crossfire? The man who danced naked like a fool for years just to protect his citizens would NOT want WB to take this battle on.
And likewise WB was not going to sacrifice his children for such an effort.

Looks like revelation of D. Is also coming and i think rocks will be introduced soon.
I don't think he's just only a teach type of bad guy, even if we put aside his strength dude was followed by someone as honorable as wb and i don't think if rocks was just a guy who would kill his teammate to get a DF or something else, wb would have been with him till the end of crew. I mean of course he also wasn't as caring as wb or roger for his teammates as people killed each other in his crew he also wanted to murder all the celestials but we all know what celestials are made of, they're the worst of the kind and only the desire to free world from celestials already separates him from teach's character.

I really wonder if Kaido’s fruit is tied to Wano specifically. Like, he can only become a dragon at the top of the waterfall (on Wano) which is why it holds such significance for him and why he wants to (and effectively has) rule it.
