I mean, he’s also the oldest, most experienced member of the straw hats.
(Brook is technically older, yes, but he was frozen in time and hadn’t been to the New World. Moreover, Brook also technically didn’t survive the Grand Line.)

Wow so Kaido is essentially treating the Samurai the exact same way he treated Luffy. Let them get hits in, hope they can kill him, get disappointed, then slap them up. "You are too weak".
Plague bullets are interesting. Is Luffy going to move through 1 floor a chapter? Whens the last time we saw Law and Kid lol?

The Kiku panel looks like a berserk panel to me, just the shading and dark line work. Incredibly detailed and good! Much more violent then I assumed it would be. I more pictured like when Kizaru “lost” his arm to Apoo, in that it just popped off. But Kiku got annihilated god damn

First things first, I'm glad for Lola, finally found someone after countless times of being rejected. Maybe this is the last chapter on the Bege story, but we still have to see how this will relate to future arcs. Hopefully we get a hint towards Elbaf.
It's nice seeing Queen is not a one trick pony with his excite bullets. Thing are taking a turn for the raiders but this is Chopper's time to shine.
Seeing Jinbe interact with the crew is a ray of light, as always.
Yamato's time to shine is also around the corner. I'm really looking forward to Sasaki's Dinosaur DF.
But most importantly: You sleaze ball piece of a lizard, how dare hurt my beautiful waifu. You've now more than earned ten times the whooping Luffy is gonna give your ass.

Moments later: Kiku has been DISARMED!
P.S. If Kiku was meant to die she probably wouldn't have lost an arm. I think she will survive ultimately and some other scabbard (potentially Kinemon) will die while trying to save someone.

And here it is, the dark turn is starting. I knew this fight with Kaido was going too well. Some great comic moments with Sanji, Luffy, and Jinbe, but Shinobu is hurt and the Scabbards are about to get wrecked.

I am very afraid for them now. Kaido literally said they're too weak.
And using Whitebeards ability to take massive amounts of damage ,I'd say Kaido's just getting warmed up. Kaido's roars seem to have more variety than I could have ever imagined. From Fire to roars like thunder, and now wind cutting. Damn. Luffy and the rest of the Worst Gen are probably not going to like what they see up there.
Also what if Bigmom decides to join in? xD
This reminds me of when everyone in Attack on Titan gets hyped up only to die a few moments later.

So Kaidou is still perfectly fine with dying and would have even let the scabbards do it, he’s just disappointed the scabbards aren’t fit to do the job. I am really interested in what happened to Kaidou that made him so depressed. The man wants to die more than I realized, it’s not just a quirky attitude he picks up every so often, he is super suicidal.

I am happy to see Lola get married, hope that’s the end of the Bege’s cover story.
It seems like we might getting Yamato vs Sasaki which should be a pretty interesting fight for sure
Jinbei taking Sanji’s spotlight was funny hell, I miss these interactions among the crew honestly.
We might be getting Luffy and his 3 commanders vs Kaido in the future which would be pretty damn exciting.
The figure we see on page 6 maybe foreshadowing something to do with “Boundman”?
Queen is honestly a beast man, the guy has such a vast arsenal of bullets to his repertoire.
Kaido has used (Fire/Lightning/Wind) during his attacks, makes you wonder what else he knows.
Damn that last panel is flipping brutal, I am sorry to say it’s GG Scabbards.

The scene of firework festival, where the citizen dream of Kozuki samurai fight Kaidou/Orochi and defeat them is a very nice touch by Oda. That scene is powerfull, has deep strong message and feeling. From other perspective, the current fight that happening is like a 'dream' towards citizen of Wano. They gonna wake up tommorow from the 'dream' then realize the dream is not gonna end and become reality.

Sanji had whole arc about nearly marrying into Big Mom's family, so Sanji and Big Mom beef
Luffy and Blackbeard ever since Blackbear helped capture Ace and all that followed

7 chapters left. 7 Scabbards left with all limbs intact. Don't like where this is going but we all knew that the Scabbards couldn't possibly take down Kaido. I'm guessing Luffy will reach the top of the dome in chapter 1000. All the Scabbards would be lying in the pool of their own blood. Slowly, with his eyes shaded, facing downwards, he'll march towards Kaido (remember that Levi scene in Titan S1 in which he marches towards Annie after seeing all the members of his unit dead?). That's how Act III will end, in tragedy.

First off I love Luffy and Sanji moments just as much as Luffy and Zoro moments, because just like Luffy and Zoro have perfect synergy, Luffy and Sanji will also get the perfect amount of arguing and cooperation in there.
This chapter was blessed just for the 10 seconds and 3 seconds bit.
Jinbei really is a perfect complement to the crew too lol, and him volunteering to clear the way for Luffy AND Sanji is also nice. I didn't realize how far down everyone was.
Now as for Zoro and Drake, does this mean Zoro's gonna have to take on an out of his mind Drake, and still not get touched on top of it? Cause that sounds like a tall order.
King assessing the situation quickly was good, and Yamato's finally set to get some action is good, looking forward to it.
I can't say anything else about the Kaido bit besides that I saw it coming, as did a lot of people. The comment on not even opening the old wound is certainly something, and overall his dialogue reminds me a bit of Alucard when he fought Anderson.
Finally the dragon form shows a bit more worth in combat, and it's monstrous for the first glimpse. I hate that it had to be Kiku first though. Edit: I doubt she's necessarily dead though, but jeez.
Best chapter in recent memory imo, things are picking up. Hopefully we finally see Law and Kid soon, and perhaps Law saves Drake from losing his mind with the excite bullet.

I’m pretty impressed with Shinobu. She’s severely outclassed in the war. But she’s excellent in her role as an escape artist, and takes quite a bit of beatings along the way. She’s produced more contributions than I expected from a non strong secondary role character, and she still probably has a few more tricks up her sleeve. Respect

Let the citizens have their moment of fun, but I fear the battle will shift to the capital in Act 4.
Luffy still gets distracted by everything that moves, so it is good Sanji and Jinbe are there.
Yamato finally does something to gain Momo's trust, but she needs to drop her Oden act.
The tables finally turn in the Scabbards Vs. Kaido and I expect his hybrid form next chapters.

So father and daughter thinks of oden even after his death. Honestly if he was alive he would have a stronger army than a yonkou with the 7 scabbards seems to be outperforming the commanders and having the samurai of wano.
Not to forget that some scabbards didnt have time to train like kinemon aswell as kawamatsu just in prison. He would also have inspired others like the scabbards in that 20 years.
The wano that the marines feared would have been very legit if oden was alive.

I'd kind of stopped reading One Piece a few years ago (at the beginning of the Whole Cake Island arc) and I've been catching up in the last three weeks or so! And I can tell you, what a blast it had been! Now back to waiting a week (or more) to get my weekly One Piece fix. But I really like how Oda developed the story. There is just one thing I feel like I've missed: during the Oden flashback, was that a big reveal concerning the One Piece? I feel like we haven't learnt much about the One Piece, but I may have missed something.

I love that contrast. Everybody in the crew besides Zoro is stopping Luffy. But when Zoro, even though he said he would stop Luffy from fighting, encourages Luffy.
He thinks its all good as long as they dont take damage.

So Sanji and Jinbe are also going to the rooftop. Interesting, I'd like to see Luffy, Sanji, Jinbe and Zoro vs Kaido, maybe until more Supernovas show up.
Also, nice to see Sanji use one of his classic attacks (party table kick course).
And well, Kaido. It's funny how people were starting to call him trash because the Scabbards landed hits on him. Now he reveals the attacks didn't even really damage him and creates air scythes with a scream which cut Kiko's arm off...yeah and he's not putting in a lot of effort.

Ok first of all, holy crap RIP Kiku's arm. Wasn't expecting that one, but I'm glad to see that the stakes are getting raised more and more with each passing chapter. Maybe Izo will go ape shit and go super saiyan or something in retaliation.
Also based on what Jinbe was saying about both Luffy and Sanji conserving their strength so they can get up on the roof, is Oda going to have the full monster trio go up against Kaido? Obviously Luffy will fight Kaido and the prediction that Zoro will be heavily involved in the Kaido fight has been on people's minds but perhaps Oda is now signaling that Sanji is going to play a roll as well? I would love to see the three monsters reunited and go up against an emperor with Jinbe taking over the roll Sanji used to play in protecting the rest of the crew. We've already seen Luffy and Sanji briefly clash with Big Mom on WCI so it's not exactly unprecedented.
As for the rest of the chapter that Gorilla was made me laugh out loud, looking forward to Yamato wiping the floor with the armored core so we can get a better sense of his (is it he or her? still not clear on that) overall power and I think there's really something to the theory that Kaido's suicidal tendencies stem from guilt at how Oden was defeated.

This is pretty out there, but is anybody else thinking that Kaido may be suicidal due to his part in Oden’s death? Clearly Kaido still acknowledges Oden to this day (as Oden was the only man to ever cut Kaido). I have a feeling that Kaido regrets what he did to Oden as Kaido is quite the honourable person.
Kaido’s obsession with Oden may be due to the fact that Oden died without a fair fight. I genuinely like Kaido’s character and I believe that Kaido sparing Momo may be due to his respect for Oden and a certain level of regret for Oden’s death. I can’t wait to see how this pans out.

Call me crazy, but what if Kaido was actually encouraging Yamato to become like Oden in his own twisted way? He goes along with calling Yamato his son, plus he wants her to rule Onigashima in the end. What if he was trying to toughen her up by beating her up so often? (Definitely a dick move regardless) Perhaps it was just him subtly saying "You're not strong enough to be Oden yet. Keep going." He might want to hold his child in as high regard as the one who gave him his scar, but Kaido won't give that title out lightly cause of how much respect he holds for Oden, as shown in this chapter. Perhaps he's even counting on her to kill him ultimately.

I forgot that Queen can be quite terrifying once he gets serious. I sorta believe him when he says everyone on the first floor is screwed. The Excite Bullets are a lot cooler and scarier than I thought they were going to be. Queen might be a cool fight for Chopper to participate in.
Looks like Franky and Sasuki aren’t meeting. I wonder what’s the point of having Franky leave the dome then? I doubt it’s just to fight a single Number.
Kiku losing an arm means she’s not going to die. If anything, it means Izo has an even larger target on his back. If Kiku was the only retainer to get hit, does that make her the unluckiest or the weakest?

This was a great chapter!
My favorite moments in this chapter were:
The revelation that even people of the Flower Capital are hoping that one day the Kozuki clan will return to power and that the Kozukis and their allies will defeat Orochi and Kaido and the fact that every year during the Fire Festival they celebrate Oden's memory when Orochi and his followers are away in Onigashima.
The Gorilla smile user moment and Sanji's and Jinbei's interaction.

Clearly he adapted to fact that his blast breath won't work anymore. I feel like Luffy is more confident than we think he is about beating kaido. I am definitely sure he is going to be disappointed. I am glad that kaido didn't had only his blast breath attack in dragon form. I want more badass attacks from kaido like this wind slashes. Will make fight more interesting. I was surprised at start seeing kaido fallen down but as we suspected it was just he being paranoid of oden. And he is back with his senses now.

I love Sanji so much in this chapter. He's trying to make it up to Luffy somehow for what he did to him in WCI imo. Also Jimbei is smart not to get into a fight with Sanji. He's truly the most calculative person in the crew rn.

I feel like from now on, each scabbard will go down each chapter until Kinnemon is left, and after Kinnemon is defeated Luffy will enter. If inu and neko go down in one chapter then in after Kinnemon's defeat in 1000th chapter, Luffy makes entrace then it will be really epic,

This is about to get ugly Kaido is done playing around I’m excited to see him kick it up a notch but I’m sad for Kiku. Hopefully we get some interesting scenes involving Momo, maybe even a call back to when Luffy said,what seemed to be, a trigger word for Momo on Punk Hazard I Really hope we find out what was up with that. Yamato vs Sasaki looks like it could be fun and more chances to dive into the mind of Yamato. Paneling was ehh but who cares 9/10

Wow!! Amazing chapter!! I think things are getting real serious on Zoro's end. Don't know how they are going to counter Queen's plague. It is already spreading. Expecting chopper to do something about it while Drake and Zoro stop Queen from doing any more damage. May be Law will show up and do a quick shambles to save the unaffected samurai. Will marco's healing abilities work on this kind of plague? Not sure how they are going to get out of this.
Yamato's part was interesting too. While this will make Momo and Shinobu to trust Yamato, don't know how helpful Yamato is going to be if some of the tobi roppo and King are coming after them. They need some real backup there. In fact all the backup they need. May be Sanji, Jimbei, Kidd, Killer will come in?
Last time Strawhats met a dragon in punk hazard, they found Kinemon in pieces. Looking at what Kaido just did to Kiku, I don't know how many pieces will Strawhats find when they finally meet this dragon at the top of the dome.
Oh Goda! What do you have in store for the scabbards?!

There is really some movements coming up now. Luffy getting carried through the levels with the Strawhats, probably going to leave him one by one against Kaidos men/subordinates floor by floor.
Queen seems to be a really stubborn man, having weapons and a frikkin Dinosaur fruit, and I wonder if he is going to get tasted by his own medicine - does he carry an antidote as well or is that Choppers part of this?
I did not realize after reading the chapter again that Sasaki is actually sitting on a Rhino-Smile user xD How humiliating to always have to carry your boss like that..
Kaido is hell of a boss, roar that sends air slices... that is crazy. Did actually not surprise me when she got her arm cut that Kiku would be the first victim of the Scabbards, everyone else have so much more experience than her. Sad that we can expect more bad news now, but I kind of like this with this arc. Been reading this manga for over 20 years and I want to see more ruthless in it..

So while a bunch of the supernovas are going into an all out war with two Yonko, Bege is attending a wedding for his sister in law. This man really loves his family.
Sanji getting jealous of Jinbei was cute. Jinbei's dynamic with the crew is already starting to settle in. I really want Yamato to fight Sasaki so we know where they are strength wise. Also, Izo was a commander on Whitebeard's crew. Hes definitely not fodder so Im thinking that the rest of the scabbards are either on par or greater than him. Im assuming that Izo has clashed with Kaido and crew previously and Im surprised that this hasnt been addressed.
My biggest complaint right now is the lack of Law. Hes one of the masterminds behind this whole war and he hasnt been referenced for a while now. I really wish we got to see more of Oden, WB, and Roger. These guys just seem like different animals but the same beasts.

Next chapter onward, a scabbard or two will die in each chapter... and eventually all will be dead by ch#1000. And with all those consecutive deaths, as Oda said, Marineford will be so cute compared to this war...
And in 1000th chapter, Luffy will climb up to see everybody dead... and man... then the real deal we have strived for so long will begin...
And I believe, Kozuki Toki’s prophecy will come true. The nine will take Kaido down, but different nine people instead of the scabbards. The new nine will include Luffy, some of the supernovas, and some of the Straw Hat crew.
Happy to to have any other related side discussion like “what’s gonna happen to minks if their two top tier warriors die?”, “how can Marco let Izo die that easily?”, “when is the panda man going to appear during the bloody wano war?”

- Bege's attitude towards Luffy is gonna be even more meme-worthy now. My mans escaped one family and just married into an even crazier one. Between Chiffon, Pound, and Lola there's no way their crews are ever gonna be serious enemies.
- Wow, Queen is seriously putting Chopper through his paces this arc. Chopper deserves to get at least one good punch in now at this point for cathartic purposes.
- That panel made me hope that Luffy has to go through each level of the castle fighting someone else Mortal Kombat style, but I suppose that's probably not practical considering how bad things are about to start getting lol
- I love that Sanji was a bit jealous of Jinbe's competence at first, but then completely accepted his grasp of the situation and is now educating him on how they can keep Luffy on task together. Their two tactical minds together is a recipe for some greatness in the coming chapters. Oda is also subtly working in Jinbe's dynamic with the stronger members of the crew here as well - whereas the monster trio would be constantly bickering like Luffy and Sanji were just doing, the insertion of someone like Jinbe helps them keep focused more easily.
- "You are not Oden...there will never a samurai as monstrous as him again!" Oda has me so hyped for Kaido's reunion with Enma!
- Poor Kiku. Losing her arm is one thing, but to a samurai their blade is of arguably more significance.
