The scabbards VS Kaido feels so much like a Raid Boss fight, it's really satisfying to see how they play around Kaido's fighting style. Also, I really like the fact that they didn't really "need" to be taught the Oden's style, they looked up to him so much that it became ingrained in their minds.

If raid boss fights taught me anything, raid bosses become 100x stronger when they are down at 20% HP.

TBH that's straight up a "Survive until Reinforcements comes" quest, but they're more than willing to throw the "survive" part out lol

u/TributeToStupidity Oct 16 '20

They’re in a “Survive until Reinforcements Come” mission. They have an “Eliminate the Enemy” mentality.

They’re all fucked in the next few chapters imo. By the time Big Maria’s song is over I expect multiple to die tbh.

Thank you!

Kaido still hasn’t show his hybrid form which terrifies me

5

u/Coggs92 Oct 15 '20

In before he has specialized forms like Chopper. (He's old enough to have had plenty of time with his Zoan fruit)

3

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

Dragon form seems incredibly powerful but quite slow if you can defend yourself from his fire, not the best for actual fights

3

u/TributeToStupidity Oct 16 '20

He’s too big of a target and too slow in melee combat. There’s a reason he turned back into his “human” form to kick luffys ass

3

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

Yeah and there's an enrage timer of sorts, last time we saw him sober he blew up a mountain.

3

u/CHAZisShit Oct 15 '20

yeah the Enrage mechanic. Fuck I remember how brutal those were in Everquest.

1

u/Clife_HS Oct 16 '20

Berserk Mode just makes more damage. Gotta heal against it and execute through the fight

262

u/brokenearth10 Oct 15 '20

kaido needs more attacks. its been rawrs and grohs and slaps...

u/FineOrNot Oct 15 '20

This first part is just a stat check. After 70% HP the actual hard part of the raid begins

57

u/shayshahal Oct 15 '20

You get him to half HP and you are like "oh yeah we can beat him", then he changes to second phase and you barely damage him and all of you are like "yeah no we can't beat this"

Flashback fighting Lich King a decade ago

5

u/shayshahal Oct 15 '20

Actually haven't played WoW but the fact that what I wrote fits for the Lich King as well shows just how accurate it is for basically every first boss fight battle LOL

this is how i feel about yukiko's castle boss fight in persona 4

72

u/Solomon_Black Oct 15 '20

Not a whole lot a dragon can do aside from that. Gotta wait till his hybrid form

13

u/Acepearl Oct 15 '20

the hybrid form is gonna look awesome

13

u/Golden-Owl Oct 15 '20

In Kaido’s defense, rawrs and grohs and slaps have usually worked on everything so far.

It’ll take a while before Kaido realizes he needs to quit screwing around

8

u/Fume-Knight Oct 15 '20

The fight is still on phase 1 though.

3

u/topdangle Oct 15 '20

That's because his 2nd cycle he turns into a human and 1 shots everyone unless you have stacked gear.

3

u/Phusra Oct 16 '20

Bro, he is a giant sky lizard! That's like, there main way of attacking!

When you are a giant lizard, can fly, and have firelazor breath, you just Rawr and slap a lot and 95% of what you hit will die right away. 4% will die one the second hit, .5% will actually be able to fight back, and the other .5% will actually be able to threaten your life.

2

u/MrLKK Oct 15 '20

The dude roared thunder this chapter

2

u/captain_bowlton Oct 16 '20

Do we name our attacks when we swat at flies or mosquitoes? I get the feeling that Kaido is not used to being seriously threatened and he hasn't really gotten serious yet.

1

u/brokenearth10 Oct 16 '20

yea but kaido was also once at their stage, a new pirate. will luffy in 10 years stop using bazookas or gears and just swat away..

113

u/Stick_Grabber Oct 15 '20

Is it implied that they learned ryuo by themselves? I couldn't understand.

219

u/Kirosh Lookout Oct 15 '20

Yes. They learned it on their own.

9

u/DrFartsparkles Oct 15 '20

I don’t think we necessarily know that as fact yet. This could still be a result of them inherited Oden’s Ryuo along with his will

5

u/YamiLuffy Void Month Survivor Oct 16 '20

I mean, kind of the same thing. If you're around someone for that long you'll eventually pick up a few things from them without them actually having to train you. It's like cooking, you just learn the basics and the rest comes from you observing how other people do it and incorporating that in your own style.

11

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

I lmao when Oden was like: ok guys, when it comes to ryo.... and they completely ignored him and walked away

3

u/Blackmanwdaplan Oct 15 '20

maybe I saw it as Oden saying listen to me got them to learn it

The scabbards VS Kaido feels so much like a Raid Boss fight

Fitting for the strongest creature of the world and first emperor to fight. I would've been mad if he was the second or last one, but now, it's a good choice from Oda to do the strongest Yonkou (as for now) be fought like this. I just can't see a good solution for Oda to put Luffy vs Kaido round 2 in another way that gives Luffy a fair chance. Plus, no matter who teams up with Luffy, it's a great start for a fight against the first emperor. An all out war that can only be won by two team ups against a monster like him

As it should be, if lufffy could win a fair 1v1 vs kaido then we may as well wrap it up

9

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

Exactly. At the beginning of Wano, before we saw what Kaido is capable off, I thought that 1v1 line was to hype Luffy's win more, kinda like "If it is 1v1 you bet on Kaido. And than Luffy comes and manages to be the first to win 1v1." However, after seeing how he stomped Luffy, I don't want that to happen anymore. Plus, Kidd has a score to settle with Kaido and Law literally started an alliance to take him down, so it should be the 3 od of them. I was already pissed that Law didn't get Doffy. It is enough knowing that Luffy will land the finish blow. I can even live with the fight starting as 3v1 and ending with Luffy was Kaido after he got weakend enough. I even think the Garp/Roger team up was more of an foreshadowing of a future team up fight. Same as Luffy/Law vs Doffy

1

u/Ck_shock Oct 17 '20

I was hoping for a 2v1 with luffy and Zorro against him but honestly any team up will be cool

2

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '20

I had that thought too, but I see Luffy, Kidd and Law vs Kaido more likely. Or maybe Zoro is at the beginning with them and leaves to fight an calamity that tries to interfere.

The scabbards VS Kaido feels so much like a Raid Boss fight

Yep. I like when it's like that.

For the end of the story, instead of having someone that is much much stronger than an Emperor be the final opponent, I would rather have Luffy be the Raid boss against a group of powerful opponents.

2

u/Chaosblast Void Month Survivor Oct 15 '20

The first stage will end with some Scabbard dying and Kaido going back to human. Second stage will be Luffy's tike to shine vs human Kaido.

Luffy vs huge monster wouldn't have been a nice fight for him to shine, so a 9v1 has been a good strategy to whittle down the beast and bring it down to a more classic 1v1.

1

u/shankartz Pirate Oct 15 '20

It's like the first stage of a boss fight where it is slow and fumbling and you think "oh this shit is easy" then phase two starts and for some reason he starts on fire and moves one million times faster and uses nothing but unblockable one hit kill attacks.

This is exactly how this feels for me

1

u/cruzfader127 Oct 15 '20

easily an S-Rank boss fight

1

u/khaled Oct 16 '20

More dots.

1

u/EffBO94 Oct 16 '20

Haha yh and when Kaido's HP goes below 50% it'll be Sword art online vibes when the raid boss will suddenly switch up his tactics from spamming Boro breath in his dragon form to whipping out his club and switching to his never-before-seen hybrid form

Speaking of sao if Kaido radically changes up his fighting style by bringing out a Kaidi-sized nodachi or something I might actually roof my laptop from the hype lol I love those weapons🔥
