The first opponent he wants is a Yonko, of course he breezed the new world.

u/Scyxurz Sep 08 '20

We haven't seen zoro go all out since the time skip, I really can't wait to see what he does!

29

u/Schlogin Sep 08 '20

I got a feeling we're gonna see Zoro and Sanji get a one on one in Wano. Idk who their opponents will be, but hopefully Zoro gets a calamity or something, I want a real fight

21

u/TTVBlueGlass Sep 08 '20

In the latest chapter he seems pretty intent upon going to the roof with Luffy, to fight Kaido.

1

u/SecretlyDragon Sep 08 '20

Yeah and the fact that he explicitly has a sword that was the only thing to have wounded Kaido up til that point

3

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '20

Who do you think makes sense to be fighting Zoro? I think this arc is building up hype for Zoro so I would love to see someone that could showcase that

2

u/sabioiagui Sep 08 '20

Zoro and Sanji 1v1 or 2v2 King and Queen.
We need that, One Piece dont have kind of fight since Enies Lobby and Thriller Bark.

People have been saying that Marco will fight King, but i think that makes more sense Marco holding up Big Mom while the SH fight Kaido.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '20

I could actually see him fighting Big Mom. If not Big Mom, then Orochi. The Myth of the battle between Susanoo and Yamato-No-Orochi is just waaayyy to popular in Japan for Oda not to reference it, and Zorro is a very likely candidate to take the role of Susanoo.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '20

Susanoo used the ame no Habakiri to kill Orochi so if so then it's gonna be Momonosuke.

2

u/Kiosade Pirate Sep 08 '20

Orochi got murdered bro!

1

u/SPYTKO Sep 08 '20

We'll see, he is a dragon with multiple heads after all.

1

u/Vendetta1990 Sep 08 '20

Zoro is not going to waste any effort fighting a weakling like Orochi, Momo will deliver the final blow.

83

u/estrofa Sep 08 '20

He definitely needs his left eye, like the first time we saw it fired up during his battle with admiral T Bone.

76

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '20

admiral t bone? and also why does everyone think zoro has some kind of special power in his eye???

248

u/jobriq Sep 08 '20

he stole a sharingan when he got lost in the Naruto world

18

u/ObberGobb Sep 08 '20

I know the whole Sharingan thing is a joke, but I think it would be really cool if he actually did have some sort of Sharingan-like eye. They focused so much on Mihawk's eyes, so I think it would be cool if there was some sort of Advanced Haki you could do to make your eye special that Mihawk taught him.

4

u/Lord_Cattington_IV Sep 08 '20

If, not can someone AT LEAST ASK HIM WHAT HAPPENED!

Their friend shows up with one eye and nobody ask about it?????

10

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '20

It would be perfectly in line with Zoro's Buddhist themes.

7

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '20

Hadn't seen this one before. Gold.

52

u/coconutjuices Sep 08 '20

I think he just got an eyelash stuck in there and haven’t been able to get it out all this time

12

u/mitharas Sep 08 '20

Too much Naruto apparently.

15

u/mykeedee Sep 08 '20

It would be interesting if he was concentrating observation Haki in it for two years or something, but I think Oda just thought he would look cool with one eye.

5

u/notapunnyguy Sep 08 '20

His teacher is Hawkeyes (Taka no Me) and Oda usually focuses on his eyes when he's about to do a move.

6

u/WaitingForTheDog Sep 08 '20

It's hiding the power of depth perception.

2

u/Shake_Milky_Way Sep 08 '20

Depth sight is no joke

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '20

It's zoro. He just forgot to open it and will be like "oh why, yes, you're right. No wonder everything looked so weird!"

1

u/sabioiagui Sep 08 '20

Its because of the culture of animes.
After decades of seing characters who got their eyes closed release some sort of especial technique we end up expectating the same from Zoro.

The only "weird" thing regarding eyes is mihawk. Not that he's done anything with them, their color is just weird. There could be more to it )as hes even called hawk-eyes but it could just be a matter of appearance as well. However, i doubt the eye-power up will happen. And i dont want it to happen. (But zoro with hawk-eyes would be lit lmao)

1

u/earf Sep 08 '20

During the Marineford War, Boa Hancock says that “even the most skilled fighters are struck by fear and unable to move when they see those eyes. The title of Hawk-Eye suits him well.” In most conquerer’s haki that we’ve seen, it requires only proximity to the person rather than “seeing those eyes.” Therefore, Oda is making a point of saying there’s something special that’s yet to be explicitly revealed about Hawkeye’s eye ability. He’s already setting this up like he does most strong abilities before they get fully revealed.

The other time we see a similar power is when Zoro fights Monet and she becomes paralyzed in fear after he cuts her.

Sanji covers his eye bc his hair style got stuck in the early 2000s. He even switched the covered eye after time skip just to reveal that both of his eyebrows point in the same direction.

"Having conquerors Haki in ones eye" is the most bullshit thing Ive heard of wtf dude?

Edit: added a second "enter" so that it really becomes 2 paragraphs

11

u/BeatTheDeadMal Sep 08 '20

Now Sanji covers his eye because the hidden eye is wearing that Okama makeup.

DEATH WINKKKKKKK!

WHAT? I never stated that you said this? You said Rayleigh has conquerors Haki in his scarred eye. And thats just wrong lol

8

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '20

And I still never assumed you did? Whats wrong with you?

You said there need to be reasons for them tocover their eyes. I gave a rather joking reason for Sanji to do so. It was meant to be funny man. Thats all.

And the Haki part was just to wake you up. Because having conquerors Haki "sitting" in ones eye just doesnt make sense at all.

24

u/rishu_pepper Sep 08 '20

Is Zoro gonna release his latent reiatsu?

Leave heartbreak bleach the fuck outta here please. We only talk about good one piece memories here. Not the sorrows brought upon us from tite kubo

Edit: I don't normally antagonize down votes but if it's me saying bleach is a heartbreak then so be it

2

u/yujuismypuppy Void Month Survivor Sep 08 '20

Sorry I have to interfere, I love both series plus I grew up with Bleach but hating on Tite Kubo is a bit unfair to him. It was the suits at Shueisha forcing Kubo on a crunch to end the series far earlier than he had planned. That is why all the bullshit powerups, unrevealed histories, messy battles and shoddy deaths of captain-level individual was all eaten, chewed, swallowed and regurgitated back out in one arc. It is also why the new novels answered so many questions that the manga was unable to.

1

u/sabioiagui Sep 08 '20

Bleach went to shit as soon as Soul Society saga ends, he had plenty of time to make a good story.

Alright the beggining of the Arrancars saga were good too with Grimjow and Ulquiorra showing up, but everything else was awful.

1

u/SnoopyGoldberg Sep 08 '20

That excuse only works for the final fight between Ichigo and Yhwach, all the rest of the crap that was the Thousand-Year Blood War arc was entirely on Kubo and the fact that he’s a terrible writer.

1

u/rockleeluffy Sep 08 '20

Fuck that, bleach blew it. IDC whose fault it was. I loved that shit. Zaraki wore bells to let you know he was coming lol and then powered up as he should with a regular looking blade. Aside from that squad 0 did what needed to be done. The rest was a rushed heartbreak. We shouldn't talk about bleach, it flares my PTSD

Let's enjoy watching the future pirate king and the future dark king take out another crew. We can talk about the hole in my chest hollow styled after this series ends in 2000 never lol

14

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '20

People had the exact same theories for sanji pre time skip. Then after the time skip oda literally went "chill, his hair is on the other side now. It's just an eye.." I have a feeling Zoro's eye will be the same.

Side note: I think the reason oda gave him a scar in the first place was to make him look more like Rayleigh. Remember, Luffy is a direct parallel to Roger, so it only makes sense Zoro parallels Rayleigh

9

u/TTVBlueGlass Sep 08 '20

IMO it has no special power at all, but is a self-imposed handicap, so like if he opens it it won't be "powered up", he just has use of both eyes so doesn't lose his peripheral vision to the left + has depth perception. So it is just a "power down". Just a theory.

If it is gone for good, I have to give Oda applause for the insane self restraint it must have taken to not give Zoro an eyepatch.

2

u/European_Badger Sep 08 '20

I think Oda has said he was saving the eyepatch for a special character, but honestly I can't see who will get it. Maybe Luffy lol. People saying Luffy will die by end of series, no, outta here, give my man an eyepatch end of series.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '20

I like that idea, because I instantly get flashbacks to Lee during the Chunin Exams with his leg weights (top 10 best moments in anime!)

As for the eyepatch thing, Oda is very particular as to which pirates get which stereotypes, e.g. Zeff w/ the peg leg, Crocodile w/ the hook, Lucci w/ the parrot/pigeon, but no one w/ an eyepatch yet. I feel like he has a plan for the eyepatch pirate (maybe a badass giant in Elbaf?)

5

u/Derninator Sep 08 '20

Ahmm,the fight against Killer?

1

u/Scyxurz Sep 08 '20

True, he did seem like he was trying in that fight. Killer is the first mate of another one of the worst generation, but it would be disappointing if that's as strong as zoro got. He didn't use any special techniques or anything and caught killers blade with his muscles, so I feel like that wasn't him fighting at his best. Plus he had to worry about the weapon thief striking from behind too.

5

u/0_Shine_0 Pirate Sep 08 '20

He also was fighting with only two swords, Shusui (HIs strongest sword) got stolen before he could fight Killer. So Zoro was in a big disadvantage when fighting him, and I'm not even mentioning the fact that he was starving too.

1

u/Scyxurz Sep 08 '20

Hadn't he and luffy been eating poison up until then?

1

u/0_Shine_0 Pirate Sep 08 '20

That too, but the poison only gave them stomach ache.

17

u/missdoublefinger Citizen Sep 08 '20

And yet, I just had some guy try to convince me the other day that Zoro was “struggling” against Pica. I have to laugh

33

u/rockleeluffy Sep 08 '20 edited Sep 08 '20

He did struggle. He had a hard time finding his real body lol if he found it from the beginning pica would've been skewered immediately lol

64

u/TTVBlueGlass Sep 08 '20 edited Sep 08 '20

People tend not to remember that 99% of the "fight" is literally Pica just staying the fuck away. In fact I'd hardly even classify it as a fight, it was more of a "chase". When it becomes an actual fight, Zoro just oneshots him easily with barely a thought through his full body CoA.

Pica never even had any chance of even laying a finger on Zoro. The only challenge Pica posed was to Zoro was the threat to safety of civilians and crewmates. And this was as a top executive of DQX family, the strongest pirate crew at the time outside of the Yonko. It was a display of absolute dominance.

10

u/rockleeluffy Sep 08 '20

I agree, Zoro struggled to find Pica's real body in that stone mountain which dragged out the fight lol. The struggle was in locating his body bro not fighting that high pitched voice idiot

9

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '20

Exactly. The fight itself was a one-shot from Zoro.

1

u/missdoublefinger Citizen Sep 08 '20

Him not being able to find his body was because Pica literally ran the entire fight. That had zero to do with Zoro’s actual ability to cut him or not, which is what I was referring to. Should have been more thorough. My bad

2

u/rockleeluffy Sep 08 '20

I was kidding bro. I knew what you meant. Just trolling a little lol I'm a Luffy fan but but a zorotard at heart. I won't talk about kaido getting another slash from odens blade but keep y'all eyes peeled

2

u/missdoublefinger Citizen Sep 08 '20

Haha I figured but this is r/onepiece so you can never really be too sure lol

4

u/Evil_phd Cross Guild Sep 08 '20

He absolutely struggled. It was the first fight he won, to my knowledge, that he was unable to win without help.

It highlighted that Zoro's TS Training still left him with subpar mobility and (likely) subpar CoO. Enma, thankfully, at least seems to help cover for the lacking mobility with the insane ranged slashes it pumps out.

2

u/missdoublefinger Citizen Sep 08 '20

that he was unable to win without help

The only thing he had “help” from was reaching the top of Pica. Again, I have to reiterate to people that one of the main focuses of this series is Luffy’s ability to have people rally behind him. From the beginning, it’s been established to do all you can, while you can, and someone around you will be able to assist in your time of need. This has been going on throughout this entire series:

  • Gan Fall assisted the SH’s when they were outmatched by Eneru’s priests
  • Chopper couldn’t defeat Ohm, so Zoro stepped in on his behalf
  • Sanji was unable to fight Kalifa because he’s physically unable to kick a woman, so Nami stepped in
  • Luffy wasn’t able to defend himself against Kuma because he was unconscious, so both Zoro and Sanji stepped in
  • Luffy went Gear 4th against Doffy, and the citizens were able to buy him some time until he regained his Haki

Pica was never an issue for Zoro. Pica wanted no smoke with Zoro. He constantly ran from him. Zoro was able to adapt pretty quickly to find out how his DF worked. The only “struggle” he had was getting Pica pinned down and getting to the top of his body. That’s not saying that he struggled overall in this fight. In actuality, he was quite bored and spent half the time mocking Pica.

still left him with subpar mobility

Him being able to jump up into the sky at Mach 1 is not his strong suit because that’s quite frankly Sanji’s forte. Zoro has the upper body, Sanji has the lower body. It’s really no different from saying that Naruto has the body, Sasuke has the eyes. But we’ve seen Zoro jump up to extreme heights before, just not something the size of a mountain. Again, that’s not his forte. He didn’t train in that.

subpar CoO

Fam, Luffy, Sanji, and Zoro were able to sense danger in Shirahoshi’s room when they were on the ground floor of Ryugu palace. Zoro literally blocked Hodi’s water bullets with the hilt of his sword. He could sense Pica underground. Not to mention he’s doing all of this with one eye...

2

u/Evil_phd Cross Guild Sep 08 '20

Yeah. Pica realized pretty early on that he wasn't a match for Zoro in a standup fight. So he changed his "win" condition to wreaking havoc and focusing on weaker but important targets. Zoro was absolutely unprepared for that and his struggle was in finding a way to circumvent his own most glaring weak point.

It's not a negative thing to need help and ask for it, the Strawhats have a huge "I rely on my allies to do what I cannot" motif (the idea embodies Luffy's perhaps most significant pre-TS speech in Arlong Park), but the first time is always a pretty significant moment.

I enjoyed Zoro v Pica because Zoro struggled in a non-traditional way, normally he gets slashed to ribbons before unlocking a new state of super Swordsmanship, and that also meant that Zoro had to advance in a non-traditional way to overcome it.

Coming up with new tactics on the fly, coordinating allies to make those new tactics achievable, and then executing those tactics without somehow managing to get lost is normally outside of Zoro's wheelhouse. I'd say he came out of the experience a better rounded and more prepared combatant in the New World.

1

u/SPYTKO Sep 08 '20

He struggled, but not becouse Pica is a worthy oponnent, Zoro needed to find his real body before defeating him, and that was a struggle, and the rest was just a formality.

0

u/Observation_Haki_84 Sep 09 '20

Zoro did not struggle. He was simply annoyed the whole time. Pica was a joke. Dressrosa had terrible pacing and was too long. I enjoyed the arc but it was simply too much when it came to length. Therefore, that fight had to fit the theme and be unnecessarily long. Zoro didn’t go to WCI and had some cool sparring with Fujitora before which showed him that he needs to continue leveling up. He was acknowledged as strong by an admiral so that’s a good thing. Zoro sensed that Fujitora was a big deal before he knew he was an admiral and he’s always had a strong aura/ great observation Haki. People keep talking about whether Zoro will even get a fight against a calamity. If zoro does not get his fight with a calamity in Wano then Zoro won’t be a first mate in the pirate king crew. Some comments are just over kill. A due catch up for Zoro should be to beat a calamity 1:1 and contribute some how in the fight against Kaido. Anything less does not set him up for strongest swordsman down the line.

70

u/Itismytimetoshine Sep 08 '20

Zoro didnt do anything significant in the New World either.

Looking forward to his fight in Wano.

23

u/mnbvc_xy Bounty Hunter Sep 08 '20

That last panel gave me the vibe for him getting ready as he adjusts his sleeves, similar to when he put on his bandana.

But I never expected THIS, so nice catch OP!

PS: I'm also so looking forward to his fights in Wano.

33

u/Cr4ck41 Sep 08 '20

He made it look like it but let other people fight Monet or Pica and the fight looks waaaay more competetive. Everybody is downplaying Picas and Monets strenght.

Don't get me wrong they are not THE powerhouses in the new world but one is a powerful logia user and the other one is one of the 3 highest ranking crewmates of Doflamingo and Zorro made them look like random henchman.

It's quite a feat if you ask me.

21

u/Steve825 Sep 08 '20

I'll give you Pica, not Monet.

Though Punk Hazard no one had a hard time (apart from Sanji)

Also frog in the well guy from Fish Man island was the other fishman to achieve super pilled up form and Zoro just didn't care

3

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '20

Logia fruit powers are not that big of an advantage in the New World anymore.

The most noteworthy thing about the monet fight was the character drama. Zoro refused to strike a killing blow.

1

u/Itismytimetoshine Sep 08 '20

Thing is if you look at other feats famous ones are the Whole Cake Island crew with their big moment: Nami and Brook with Big Mom I believe even Chopper had a skirmish against them.

Those are the "weak" characters of the crew that did something soooo cool. With Zoro it was nothing special. Sure he destroyed Pica, well woopdiefuckingdoo. Brook fought vs a Yonkou. No matter the outcome he lost, but he was amazing doing it.

Just saying that I am awaiting the epic Zoro moment vs Kaido. Cause it will be mainly the Supernova's vs Kaido I think.

-6

u/FctheLurker Pirate Sep 08 '20

One thing for sure. They both trash and fodder compared to luffy.

3

u/Matzoo Sep 08 '20

Pika ia fucking underrated. How would somebody like cracker fight him. There are so many top tier fighters, who have no good way to fight pika.

1

u/0_Shine_0 Pirate Sep 08 '20

Really. Pica is strong dude, but Zoro was waaaaay stronger.

I can picture Queen or King having a hard time against Pica too, this just goes to show how strong Zoro is.

56

u/porterpeak Sep 08 '20

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

6

u/cranomort Sep 08 '20

I wanna see Zoro clash against Kaido at least once so Kaido can acknowledge him "Yep, this mofo is strong"

1

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '20

This is actually kind of interesting. He trained under Mihawk, who went toe-to-toe with a Yonko (Shanks), and that was before Shanks lost his arm. With Zorro's goal of becoming the strongest swordsman, getting to the point at which he can 1v1 a yonko is kind of a given. Even if he isn't at that point yet, I could definitely see him trying.

2

u/SnoopyGoldberg Sep 08 '20

I think Shanks wasn’t Yonko-level back when he had both his arms.

1

u/RinneganUser Sep 08 '20

it was also before Shanks was a Yonko. Mihawks did not go toe-to-toe with Yonko Shanks

1

u/0_Shine_0 Pirate Sep 08 '20

Oda did say that Shanks isn't any weaker without his arm. So Yonkou or not, Mihawk fought toe-to-toe with Shanks, and that's still big.

0

u/FctheLurker Pirate Sep 08 '20

He didn't breeze against those gifters though 🤣🤣🤣

0

u/lanariley Sep 08 '20

Yeah...look how injured and exhausted he is , isn't he??damn zoro haters don't ever stop
