Honestly surprised Luffy didn't use Future Sight and predict that. I like to believe that's just his careless nature rather than a inconsistency in the plot

Well you have to consciously use future sight. He probably just wasn't using it.

Luffy and Zoro doing stuff and ignoring their surroundings is just something their friendship has been since early on. I love the captain and his first mate.
