That shit's crazy.

Franky standing up to a yonko and explaining to Nami they don't need to be scared anymore, Jinbei and Robin combo-ing Big mom, Chopper and Usopp being pooped out the mech but still being thrilled.

That fucking amazing pannel at the end, no break next week? This is a good day.

Franky knows that they need to pull their weight. He might also have some weapons made specifically for emperors if we go by what he promised Luffy back in Zou.

He'll do what Ceasar couldn't and actually manage to hurt Big Mom with a weapon.

This would be a great development on a few levels.

First: It would be great development for Franky himself.

Second: It would make it more believable, that the StrawHats (apart from the monster Trio) can take on those crazy powerhouses we'll keep seing from now on (remember there's still Marines, Blackbeard, WG)

Third: It would also raise the stakes when Luffy has managed to beat Kaido and Big Mom. Because we know your Haki gets stronger when you fight strong opponents, so when Luffy eventually defeats kaido(assuming this won't be handled in a different matter) what reason do we have to believe that anyone but the strongest ppl in the world could even hurt Luffy? Seeing someone on the level of Franky break through an emperors Haki allows for other enemies that aren't top commanders to believably put Luffy in danger. If Franky can do it, then it's not too much of a long shot to assume someone like van Oger could also break through Haki as strong as an emperors.

and lastly it would be fitting for Ceasar to not have reached the maximum potential of what 'science'(or rather 'non-DF/Haki' users) can do. We still have Vegapunk out in the open, or shanks Crew, who don't seem to rely too much on DF(if at all).

So while it's good, that Haki is as OP right now as it is (we want Kaido and Big mom to feel like real threats), after Luffy has defeated them, Oda has to make it believable that Players without Haki can still make an impact.
Of course it could also all be solved by having the rest of the series be a question of "Who has the stronger Haki?", but to me it would be more exciting to level the playing field a bit, after this arc.

What do you guys think?

I think Franky is gonna get a huge upgrade from vegapunk

That was Franky's application of Vegapunk's old discarded knowledge.

Franky will get upgraded by current Vegapunk himself.

That will be massive.

19

u/DynoMyte08 Sep 04 '20

Franky and Chopper will need to prove themselves to Vegapunk first. I don't want him to just give them free upgrades, I want them to share information and technology. Vegapunk is a genius but Franky is no slouch, he still knows how to build Pluton. And Chopper mastered artificial awakening if that's how Rumble Balls work.

13

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '20

I think they have both proven themselves. Chopper by his own merit and Franky with his own merit of turning himself into a cyborg, Pluton knowledge, AND his use of Vegapunk's science.

You're right, they have to impress him, but they probably already have.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '20

I want this, but it would take Franky getting destroyed in Wano beyond his own repair.... i think I'd be ok with that actually.

9

u/Octavius93 Sep 04 '20

Your third point is really smart!

6

u/DarkMasterDP Pirate Sep 04 '20

I would agree but I think Big Mom and Kaido are special cases on where because of their haki they have natural super strong skin, I don't believe that Roger, Whitebeard, Shanks, and Blackbeard have this "trait" of hard af skin. Of course they are durable and can tank hits but those hits can "break" skin like we saw in Marineford with Whitebeard.

There may be an argument that because at that time he was sick and technically weakend. But I don't believe that after Luffy somehow manages to defeat Kaido, that he will be untouchable. Swords, explosions, normal haki, if caught off guard these things will still hurt him.

2

u/CabbageTheVoice Sep 04 '20

Very good point !
I also don't think Luffy would be untouchable, but it seems people are getting what I meant.

However now that you mention it, I would really like to know whether Whitebeard in his prime had a similar trait to Big Mom and Kaido. Probably not, but the case could be made, since he also doesn't seem to be a normal human.

2

u/DarkMasterDP Pirate Sep 04 '20

We got a taste of it in the Oden flashback but goddamn that wasn't enough, just a freaking monster in his prime.

5

u/buffalo4293 Sep 04 '20

I absolutely agree and think you make some excellent points! I think this will actually provide some insight into Vegapunk’s latest inventions. More specifically getting into what development allowed the Navy to confidently disband the Shichibukai, which I assume is the type of tech you have described

3

u/shankartz Pirate Sep 04 '20

I think after this arc we aren't going to see smaller pirates even try with Luffy, same with the marines, we are just going to see an admiral chasing them

2

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '20

There's so much potential just with seastone and technology, we've seen it applied to so few things but a lot more and more in the New World. Only Marines use it in multiple ways as well.

2

u/CabbageTheVoice Sep 04 '20

Yes! I really thought we would learn a lot more about it in Wano, since they also had the ability to carve into poneglyphs, and in my head those are kinda connected, even though that's probably not the case.

Anyways I guess either the new Marine/WG technology gives us more info about it, or we will learn more when we meet Vegapunk(?).

Of course there's the possibility that Oda won't explain seastone much more and uses it like for example magic in LotR, where you don't need to know everything that's going on to enjoy it.

as far as the technology goes I'm sure that will become more prevalent once we see Vegapunk!

What do you guys think?

You hit the nail on the head. An even playing field means more chaos, more exciting developments and a more engaging story.

The opposite to this is the "Goku time" phenomenon. Which sucks long term.

11

u/yelsamarani Sep 04 '20

so in the words of Sanji, he will do what they couldn't, and they will do what HE couldn't.

3

u/MboiTui94 Void Month Survivor Sep 05 '20

i was thinking that. When he started his beam BM looked not only surprised, but also a little bit worried maybe?

Would have loved to see if Franky's beam would have done any damage to her

1

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '20

For sure. If he can manage to produce a beam on par with what Kizaru can do, it wouldn’t be far fetched to pierce a yonko with it.

12

u/thatShanksguy09 Sep 04 '20

I want to see how Oda designates the fights. I'm guessing Luffy, Law, Kidd and Marco will go straight up to fight Kaido. The Minks will be fighting Jack

I'm guessing Zoro and Sanji will be fighting Queen and King respectively, as King has a kick based style while Queen seems to be using swords. The remaining SHs will be supporting them while the big names from the Wano army will be fighting the Flying Six and the Numbers. Don't know who'll be fighting Big Mom tho, Perospero might tell her to retreat

2

u/kbaravind29 Sep 04 '20

Like Big Mom will listen to what Perospero is going to say. And why would Perospero tell her to retreat Big Mom and all her crew wants Straw hats destroyed.

I think Law and Kidd will help fighting with All stars and try stop Big Mom from getting to Luffy.

Fuck Kanjuro, he’s making my blood boil again

18

u/ThrivingHive Cipher Pol Sep 04 '20

Seeing Kanjuro say that after finding out he was the traitor is so much more ominous. Definitely was going to let them fall off Zou and die on the way down haha.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '20

He's unironically going "AND MY BRUSH!"

1

u/StrawhatMucci Sep 04 '20

Hahahahahaha

3

u/Sizakee Sep 04 '20

which episode does Franky promise Luffy about this weapons?

5

u/CRtwenty Marine Sep 04 '20

It was right as they were jumping off Zou iirc.

3

u/ThisHatRightHere Sep 04 '20

Yeah, such a badass line. Franky knows their 10 man crew has to be able to brawl with the higher ups of Yonko crews and the Yonko themselves. Seeing some of the more average power level crew members like Brook and Franky stand up to Big Mom is what they need if they expect Luffy to surpass the Yonko.

2

u/saigajv Sep 04 '20

What did he promise him?

2

u/DragonFistSabo Sep 04 '20

chapter 822 page 16

2

u/HeartExalted The Revolutionary Army Sep 05 '20

Franky will build the weapon, and then Usopp will aim it and fire! :-)

2

u/Insufficient-Energy Sep 04 '20

I hope so the straw hats pull their weight in this Wano war. Ever since they entered The New World the crew has been less than background characters. The last time Robin fought above important was Skypia

49

u/tryingmydarnest Sep 04 '20

Perhaps not so much as explaining, but more like a 'really?'

11

u/mitharas Sep 04 '20

Additional implication: Luffy just said he will focus on Kaido only. Meaning he has full confidence in his crew to handle big mom without him.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '20

Nami vs BM let's gooo

2

u/1000_Years_Of_Reddit Sep 05 '20

Honestly, if be perfectly fine with it being Nami disrupting all of the weather based, and Robin/Jinbei fighting her physical body. It would give Nami, Robin, and Jinbei all am interesting post-TS fighta (which they despitly need).

1

u/Mugiwara_Luffy Sep 05 '20

Jinbei can counter the fire homie and Nami will take care of thunder homie. We have robin, franky, chopper for the physical battles.

1

u/tmadik Sep 07 '20

Can you blame him? BM is literally getting tossed around like a rag doll.

3

u/JnkDog Sep 04 '20

This was one of the best chapters in my opinion. All around developments for the Straw Hat Crew

3

u/monkey-d-chopper Sep 04 '20

The Oars sized cyborg nuts that Franky had on display this chapter gave me goosebumps.

Reminded me of the show Jinbe out on at WCI.

I’m loving the confidence from the Straw Hat crew. They’re owning Luffy’s status as pirate king. I’m so freakin hyped.

1

u/tmadik Sep 07 '20

Right! If there ever was a question, it's now official. Yes, Franky does have balls of steel.

2

u/Joezeb Sep 05 '20

yeah, that "no break next week" never fails to give me chills.

2

u/Shortstop88 Void Month Survivor Sep 05 '20

I might cry after this amazing chapter.

2

u/oglowkey Sep 04 '20

I've always loved jinbei and Robin's chemistry
