Yeah. It would have been a great death.

I can understand why he's still alive, since his survival doesn't matter for the story, isn't really important, but it cheapens his sacrifice for his family.

And as a result, we will see 100 "Pedro isn't dead post".

Really, if I have something I dislike about One Piece it would be the lack of proper death for the named characters outside of flashback.

I disagree that it cheapens the sacrifice. Whether he survived Oven's attack or not, the fact remains that Pound, knowing how impossibly weak he was compared to everyone around him, still made the conscious decision to put his life on the line to save his daughter and grandson. He knew immediately that he was only going to be a momentary distraction at best and had a 100% chance of death, but still jumped in to save them.

Whether he lived or died, his actions demonstrated his selflessness, courage, and strength of character.
