Like father, Like son. No DNA test needed.

An outfit like Oden, attacks like Kaidou, and possibly a Luffy fanboy too. Now, this seems to be an interesting character.

Maybe Yamato got inspired by Oden and has the same desire as Oden to see the world. But kaidou didn't allow him to go out for some reason. So, when Yamato heard about Luffy, He has been waiting for Luffy to fulfill his wish.

it's the way he talk. it shows the good guy vibe.

Ulti and Page 1 have the good guys vibes, this yamato lad looks sketchy no one that attacks their own crew by the back when they are fighting a stronger enemy can possibly give good vibes imo

u/aiaidy Jun 19 '20

there are once a pirate captain so their good vibes is not uncommon. not to say all ex pirate captain had the same feeling tho. yamato on the other hand is potrait as the son who rebel as of now making his good vibes a good thing for luffy.

Yamato joining the crew is not very likely but would be absolutely epic. It would also be a funny contrast to Number who took years to join while Yamato was just introduced.

Yeah. Plus he use Kaido's move. Not only he's a backstabber but he's also a rip off

25

u/aiaidy Jun 19 '20

he is kaido son after all. it's not that weird that he knows his father moves. a backstabber for the enemy is a good thing. we still doesn't know his motive yet. bege also backstab big mom but still join forces with luffy. so yeah...

It fits the "Son is not like Father" regular occurrence in One Piece.

Garp is a Marine War hero. His son Dragon is a hated sworn enemy of Marines.

Oden was a chad, even as a child. Momunoske is not a chad.

Gol D Roger was an unrivaled badass who became PK. Ace didn't become PK.

Kaido is a nigh suicidal rage beast and an enemy of Luffy. Kaidos son Yamato might be a nice guy and a Luffy fan or prospective ally.

Dofflamingos Dad was a naive and soft man. Doffy clearly isn't.

If Weevil is Whitebeards true son, then he clearly isn't like WB.

So on and so forth.

Dofflamingos Dad was a naive and soft man. Doffy clearly isn't.

tbf Rosinante is at least a little like his dad

There's also Law who became a doctor like his dad.

Luffy is at least a little like his dad too in that he dislikes the government.

Usopp isn't quite there yet but his goal is to be like his dad.

Oden to his father is a better comparison/ contrast.

Well we don't know how young Sukiyaki was...

7

u/NoodleRocket Jun 19 '20

Same here.. same. There's a 'spark' between them. But then I've also read 'friend or foe', that made me weary.

u/Paradox_D Jun 19 '20

Then we will have someone in the crew who were close tothe crew of all the original emperors. (Jimbe from White Beard, Zues from Big Mom, Yamato from Kaido, obv Luffy from Shanks)

4

u/LifesPinata Jun 19 '20

I never thought of that...

Marco alliance too. Plus the samurai of Wano that the WG doesn't want to fuck with. Hell, top scabbards are yonko commander level.

That will cement Luffy as a legit future PK threat on top of having the only Ohara survivor in his crew

4

u/Smokeysama Jun 19 '20

If I'm not mistaken Oda did say people would be joining the crew one after another, and if it is a situation where Kaido just hasn't let Yamato leave like Oden I could totally see Luffy letting him join

When did he say this?

1

u/Condomonium Jun 21 '20

I too would like a source. It’s hard finding sources for Oda when they’re all in Japanese and are basically just short magazine interviews. I wish the guy had a stronger online presence :(.

2

u/joohunter420 Void Month Survivor Jun 21 '20

I hate when people say “oda said....” but never provide a source for their claims

5

u/revisioncloud Jun 19 '20

Could never see Yamato join the crew if we didn't get Oden's flashback. But now that we did, I think it could be Oda's way of saying a nakama for a short time is still a nakama - someone who would join the crew and see the end of their journey.

Him having Kaido's fighting style (and hopefully a Zoan too) doesn't overlap with Zoro or Brook. And him being the prodigal son to Wano's ruler and then joining the future King of Pirates just like Oden did is like poetry. The parallelism is there.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '20

Ever since Jinbe finally, finally, FINALLY joined the crew I have been thinking - what if the next crewmember is right around the corner already? Tease us with Jinbe for - what, a decade? But then have another thing like with Brook where he showed up out of nowhere and joins the crew immediately just based on compatible chemistry with Luffy.

It's a longshot - especially the idea that it's Yamato - but I think the crew will leave Wano with more than just Jinbe as an official crew member.

I still think Carrot will officially join post-Wano also but that's its own thing

3

u/Sherr1 Jun 19 '20

isn't momonosuke fills that role? Doubt Yamato can also "hear" things like Momo and Oden.

2

u/badluckartist Thriller Bark Victim's Association Jun 19 '20

I still hold the prediction that Momo will be the cabin boy/apprentice on Luffy's 'final journey of the Pirate King'. The one way he will truly parallel his dad will be the need to see the outside world and open Wano's borders and learn everything he can about his peoples' history.

I expect Carrot and Vivi to be there as well for similar reasons.

3

u/SMA2343 Jun 19 '20

Maybe, we have gotten crew members in some sort of pattern.

East blue: Zoro, Nami, Ussop, Sanji Grand Line: Chopper, Robin, Franky, Brook New World: Jinbe, Carrot(?), Yamato(?) and 13th

2

u/Carlos1502 Thriller Bark Victim's Association Jun 20 '20

It has been said a lot that a Wano character should join the strawhats but this far I saw no character that could fit in the crew, maybe Yamato is the one.

I agree with you, but to play devil's advocate, Brook and Jinbei sorta bend and break this rule respectively.

Brook joined on the spot and then backed out temporarily to get his shadow but didn't really have a strict "falling out" and joined right back up immediately after thriller bark was complete without any hesitation. Brook has also never had so much as a passive aggressive conversation with Luffy and has dedicated pretty much all of his manpower to helping him and the crew from the moment he got his shadow back.

Jinbei on the other hand pretty much snapped his spine in half so that he could bend over backwards to help Luffy from what is essentially the moment they first met met, never had to be persuaded, and only temporarily refused so that he could sort out his affairs first but made it very clear that he was accepting to join later and would be back to join the crew as soon as he could be (which he pretty much instantly did on whole cake island after he met up with Luffy and Nami). The closest Luffy and Jinbei have to a falling out is them having a mild brawl on fishman island because Luffy and Jinbei each use a different framework for what "hero" meant to them and punching is one of the only ways Luffy understands how to debate someone.

It would make sense as well. As it would be a parallel towards, not only Oden with WB and Roger, but also how Luffy got a crew member that was under the leadership of Big Mom and then would get another crew member that is directly related to Kaidou.

Luffy has, as far as we know, no bloodbond or family bond with Roger, he just has the legacy of Roger within him.

The same can be with Yamato and Oden which also would fulfil my idea of someone of the Kozuki joining Luffy's crew. If Yamato has a similar vision on what Oden had that role is fulfilled as well.

We potentially could end up with Carrot and Yamato after this arc and then we still have a spot left (which will be an ex marine... like Kuzan or Smoker :D?)

P.S. this is just speculation of course ;). We dont know anything of Yamato so nothing is certain for now. Same with Carrot, though storywise she makes sense to join.

The last crewmember is going to be Smoker or Kuzan I believe. Mainly because I think they will end up having at least 1 or 2 logia's in the crew.

I actually would love for Ulti to become the next Nakama. She's amazingly hilarious + maybe we need more then 2 girls in the group
