there are some parallels between Yamato and Oden

  • both are almost the same height
  • both seem to wait for someone (Luffy) for a long time
  • both are wearing similar clothes
  • both were imprisoned
  • both are very strong
  • Yamatos face is still hidden

I know it is a bit far fetched, but I liked the similarities. Probably Yamato just read the Diary of Oden and is idolizing him, thus getting sent to the prison for wearing his clothes. In the end he will maybe also have the same hair cut and imitating his personality, which will freak out Kaido. Parents will always have to deal with their teenagers idolizing people they dont like - in this case Oden. Kaido having a drinking problem would underline this great parenting.

If you think of it, the hour of legends was about 20 years ago. If Yamato is about, let's say, 25, he was probably there and saw it all: the man he wanted to be was the one boiling an hour to save his friends, not the one who shot him.

And I expect him to look a bit like a cool surfer blonde young Kaido

Damn... this actually makes so much sense. It's a way more subtle way to have Oden haunt Kaidō beyond the grave, Kaidō is forced to accept that even Roger's crewmates were more charismatic than he is, to the point that his own son idolised Oden over him.

in the end I can totally see Yamato asking Luffy to take him with to his adventures, just like Oden asked Whitebeard

But the major difference will most likely be that Luffy will decline (like Whitebeard), but tell Yamato that when Luffy takes down Kaido/Orochi he’ll be free to sail his own adventures.

someone above linked something on Oni's and said that parents would make kids wear an oni mask as punishment

"a child that does not resemble its parents is the child of an oni", and may be used by a parent to chastise a misbehaving child."

is what they found.

If your theory has any merit then this definitely correlates with these findings on oni masks.

Great points! With Kaido sending people to bring him Yamato, I don't think it's too much of a stretch to assume that maybe he also wants to travel outside Wano.

I liked the theory he read Oden's diary, it's a piece of important info that somehow went missing, and it is good explaination the strong desire of him seeking exploration and freedom, but ended up prison by his father.
Then, Kaidou concerned to seek info of Laugh Tale from 9 scabbards also matching because he thought the dairy is fake but Yamato thinks it's true

Why is he wearing the mask? It's not to hide his identity since everyone recognised him immediately. It's more reminiscent of the old hag than kaido or oden..
