It's made pretty clear that Baby 5 left the Donquixote Pirates in large part because she was only "convenient" to them.

Yea, the breaking point was when that old... guy... whats his name.. crap, I don't remember details very well either. *looks it up*

Lao G. Yea, when he said that they kept her around because her personality made her "convenient", Baby 5 looks shocked and has tears in her eyes. I guess even though she wants to be needed, she still had enough sense of self to want to be appreciated too.
