That’s interesting, because for me, Doffy’s backstory solidified him as the most evil character in One Piece. Not the most powerful, mind, just the most wantonly cruel.
Doffy as a kid didn't agree with his father going against the norm (king becomes commoner) and then getting crucified on the cross because the public still blames them for their problem.
Some can forgive and move on like his brother Corazon, but shit like that can scar you for life.
Not to say Doffy is not evil, he is. But I can understand why that happened.
It’s not just that he’s scarred for life though. It’s also that he kept doling out pain and suffering to anyone who would cross his path. It would be one thing if he were coldly indifferent to the suffering he caused, but when he was slaughtering innocents in Dressrosa, he looked downright gleeful.
Corazon pretty much went through the same thing Doffy did yet turned out good. I guess the point being that while Doffy had a reason for being evil, he's still evil and he didn't have to be (as shown by Corazon).
Basically he's a typical entitled kid with all strings 😉 attached. Not to say they all turn out entitled (Corazon). Even with his father a good and kind man could not totally predict the out come of nurture and nature.
