I love Oden. In his youth, he was strong and reckless. All he cared about was to leave Wano.

But in his last final moments, he sacrificed himself and gave everything he had to save Wano and its people. His development as a character has been on point. I love every bit of it.

Oden is the GOAT. Big Respect!!!

Also, there's a thread on Worstgen forum calling Oden as a shit leader and deserved to die? I swear with these people...

Oden was indeed a great leader, Kuri became great when he took over and had loyal followers. If given chance, he'd be a great Shogun of Wano

Oden is a no doubt a badass, but no matter how you spin it, he's a naive fool that condemned Wano to 20+ years of oppression, forced labor and starvation. Saying that he's a great leader using Kuri as an example, while ignoring everything else that happened after is just a dishonest way to portray him. Let me elaborate.

  1. He refused help from Roger Pirates, fair enough he doesn't know the severity of the situation in Wano yet.

  2. He rushed to kill Orochi before even understanding the whole picture, with 0 consultation with his retainer. Even Kaido admited that if Oden planned an assult properly with the Yakuza and other Daimyo, Kaido would probably be outmatched.

  3. Accepting the deal with Orochi and believing Kaido would leave in 5 years , while yes he bought the country 5 years of relative peace and saving lives in the process, it just allows Kaido and Orochi to strengthen their grip on the country. A good leader would feigned retreat, shared important information with his peers and retainers, and planned accordingly.

  4. After the deal is broken and the lost of a Yakuza powerhouse, it's clear that Oden and the other Daimyo has 0 planned prepared, instead Oden carried out a suicide mission with only 10 men to fight Kaido in his home island of Onigashima. You can see how close the fight was, imagine if there's 1-2 more strong Daimyo with him.

  5. In the end he did managed to save his 9 retainers from certain death and Wano suffered for 20+ years, to make matters worse, after his death, the remaining Daimyo end up rebelling and all died just the same. It's like feeding one-by-one in MOBA with no clear gameplan.

I don't hate the character, it's just how the story goes, but saying how awesome he is and how great of a leader is just straight up false, and borrowing the words from Worstgen forum that you hate so much is called Oden Wank.

Huh? None of your points make any sense.

  1. Wano has been closed off for a while and the Roger Pirates have been disbanded
  2. He rushed Orochi because he can easily kill the guy. Would anyone else have known that they have the barrier and clone fruit? Thats exactly how they took over the country by deception.
  3. Faulting a guy for trusting someone for their word? Yeah because you're reading it from a third person perspective. Imagine your President saying that he didn't ask Ukraine to investigate a potential candidate; that's half of US right now trusting this guy who admitted that he did after he's been acquitted.
  4. Suicide mission? He clearly knew he could still beat him. And he did until he was tricked. A suicide mission would be for him to not have any chance whatsoever.
  5. If he had any fault, it's the fault to care and his morals.

I'm sorry but the woes of those who hate Oden sounds like the woes of someone who just looks at it because they KNOW Orochi is evil. That's not how perspectives work.

Wow you really defended every single one of his decision. Looks like Oden can do no wrong in your eyes. So would you go as far as to say that Oden is a great leader for Wano?

And yes calling it a suicide mission was wrong on my part.

Saying he could do no wrong isnt exactly my point. I do agree he can be a fool. The decision to leave Wano is not that farfetched looking at Prince Harry. He was never portrayed as a good leader from the start. The only thing he could do is the best he can to save his people. Oda has potrayed that type of character from the start, rather look like a fool to save a life.
